I haven't been feeling well so I ended up shaving about 6 hours later than normal. For lather and post I went with "comfort" scents and was very happy with the choices. My MM24 technique is still a work in progress, but having Tusk as my lather base helps keep the irritation away as I learn the ropes on the MM24. The MM24 had no issues with the extra stubble, and I got my first BBS shave with it. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

The bug I've been fighting went from bad to worse and yesterday I felt so crappy I couldn't muster enough energy to safely shave. With yesterday's missed shave went my goal of 31 MMarch24 SOTD posts, and my consecutive SOTD post tally was torpedoed. Today I'm much better and the scent that best sums up how I feel is Alive! My lather was awesome and the MM24 was more efficient in 2 passes than I normally achieve in 3 passes with my DEs. My MM24 technique is still fluid, but if I can continue to repeat today's shave, I may have to reconsider my favorite razor form factor. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

Everything that went right yesterday went wrong today, starting with dropping the MM24 immediately after loading. It landed flush (so no razor damage) but the latch opened, and the blade slid out. The blade appeared unaffected, so I risked shaving with it. Because I couldn't stop thinking about how stupid it was to drop the razor, I lost focus while lather building, added too much water and ended up with thin scum that prevented the MM24 head from smoothly gliding on my face. A this point I was too stubborn to admit defeat, so I did 3 passes of short, choppy strokes which avoided thrashing my face but was the opposite of the long, efficient strokes I used yesterday. I survived without screwing up anything else and can't wait until tomorrow's shave to fix everything I screwed up today. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

The cover of my tub of Rumble came loose during ship out and the soap is significantly drier than all of my other Tusk soaps. My Tusk lather-building technique didn't cut it and I once again over-hydrated. The lather was still slick and protective but not of the quality I normally get from Tusk soaps.

The blade's performance dropped off significantly today. Considering I dropped the blade yesterday, having the blade prematurely fail is not a shock. I still want to attempt 31 shaves on a GEM, so I'll restart the 31-shave pursuit tomorrow and extend my personal MMarch24 into April. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

They say "Third Time's a Charm". Well, they also say "Bad Luck Comes in Threes", and bad describes today's lather. It was better than yesterday, but it still sucked. It'd be easy to blame Rumble, but after practicing soap-loading after the shave, I noted that the v20 gel tips retained water even after flicking the brush vigorously a dozen time. I hadn't factored this into my hydration levels during lather-building and I suspect that's why my lather was getting overhydrated, especially during the second and third passes. I made adjustments to my precision loading technique to factor in how the v20 gel tips hog water, and I was able to overcome the overhydrating issue I've been dealing with. The lather quality was great, and the lather scent was even better. My sus nose would have difficulty telling the difference between juniper and jackfruit, but it knows what it likes, and it likes Hygge. With its second use, the GEM calmed down and delivered a smooth and efficient shave. Oh, what a difference a day makes. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

Today was a good test of my improved v20 lather-building technique. I acquired Fú Dào second-hand and while the scent is still strong, the soap shows its age in its loss of some hydration. I had to add ~20% more water to help load the desired amount of soap, but once the proto-lather had the right consistency the lather-building was as per normal, and my lather quality was fantastic. I spent the first half of March focusing on improving my lathering and MM24 techniques so in order to minimize variables I kept the soap base constant. It's now time to test my technique improvements on different soap bases, and the Elite Eight matchups provide the ideal opportunity to do so.

This is a heart vs head choice. Logically speaking B&M should get my nod since it's the second highest number of tubs (after Stirling) in my stash, and a number of their scents would be great choices as desert island soaps. Yesterday's matchup non-selectee is today's choice, so SBS Prom King it is. My lather was fantastic - super slick and protective. The blade, on the other hand, was not fantastic. As I was shaving in our bathroom, Mrs Worried (who was about 12 away in the adjoining bedroom) asked me why my razor sounds like sandpaper. I knew that the blade sounded scrapy, but I didn't realize how loud it had become. The blade was noticeably less efficient today, and I needed significantly more strokes during cleanup to achieve DFS. No weepers yet with this blade, but I did end up with some irritation. I'm old enough to remember when Shulton made Old Spice, and it is that version of the aftershave that my Dad and Grandfather had in their medicine cabinets. As much as I'm a fan of NO, nostalgia tipped the scale and B&M Spice is the choice. I find Seaforth! Spiced to be a nice complimentary scent and went with it post-shave. The GEM blade was extremely inefficient today, but a significant number of cleanup strokes salvaged a BBS. If this was a DE, I'd have given myself a severe case of razor burn, but surprisingly I escaped irritation-free. I really want to see how far I can push this blade, but I'm about to start a week-long vacation (to visit my wife's hometown). To be safe I plan on using a new GEM blade on vacation, but I plan on revisiting this blade once I return home. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

Shortly after arriving in my wife's hometown, we gathered up our kids, a bunch of nieces and nephews, and a few of my wife's friends and did an overnight beachside camping trip. I had every intention of shaving while camping but life got in the way, so here we are at the 23rd hour squeezing in a shave before the new shave day starts.

The new GEM blade was a bit noisy but was as smooth as butter. Having almost two day's growth I was targeting DFS, but the blade was so efficient that I ended up with BBS without trying.

I'm a huge HoM fanboy, but most of my wife's favorite shave scents are from Stirling, so I broke the tie by selecting the underdog. No loser in today's battle. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

Stirling's base performed extremely well with my travel shaving hardware. I'm shaving in 18-hour intervals over the next few days to get myself realigned with the SOTD posting schedule, so being able to confidently produce slick, protective lather a primary reason why Island Man is my go-to travel soap. My lather did its job and the MM24 (with its new blade) effortlessly delivered a great shave.

Both B&M and HoM make bases that work well with my lathering/shaving techniques, both make scents that I would be happy to have on a deserted island, and both are prominently featured in my shaving stash. To break the tie, once again I'm ~~taking the easy way out~~ selecting the underdog.

Another 18-hour growth shave so I did a single pass with cleanup. Tusk was great (as always) and combined with the MM24/GEM delivered a close, efficient shave. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

Did a 14-hour growth shave to finally get myself realigned with the SOTD posting schedule. With this third quick turn shave in a row, indications of irritation appeared on my upper cheeks and lower chin during my first pass. Even though I thought my lather was acceptable, on a whim I decided to hand lather the second pass and while doing so added a palm-full of water while hand-lathering. To my surprise the lather exploded, and I had the slickest lather I had ever produced. Throwing caution to the wind, I proceeded with ATG and cleanup passes with no further signs of irritation noted. I will need to experiment further to see if I can successfully repeat today's lather results. If I can, my shaving journey will take a huge step forward. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.
