August 11, 2024 * Preshave: Hot Shower
Brush: Chisel & Hound “Rob’s Finest” Boar 25mm X 56mm
Razor: Henckels Friodur 451 No Stain
Edge: Pudding (11)
Lather: House of Mammoth Everett
Post Shave: House of Mammoth Everett Splash
Post Shave: House of Mammoth Everett EDP

Honestly I'm pretty bored at this point. Which surprises me. But, I think the thing is, while I am improving in big ways with a straight, I just don't really like it. It's fine. It's cool - like, I can shave with a straight razor. That's objectively a very cool skill that not a lot of people have. It'll be great for the "fun fact about yourself" conversations (until there are follow up questions at which point it's best I steer the conversation away from this topic). But, I really enjoy shaving with DEs. The varieties, the different shapes, the weights, all of it. It's fun. This? It's fine. I'm never going to be Pudding with his enormous collection of straights shaving with a new one every day of the year. It's just not my jam.

That said, it was a good shave tonight. Not BBS, but, in 2 passes it's very much DFS. I'd prefer it be a little cleaner and closer, but, with the risk of a slice or reopening a mostly healed slice always looming, I'll take this.

The brush is not doing well. Here's the album. You'll notice that the density is awful when compared with MOAR BOAR which makes sense given this knot was just a few dollars. You'll also notice that the crack that began a few days ago has grown. I am very much not convinced this handle lasts the month, but, we're gonna ride it out. For science.

Everett is great. My wife, though, went into the bathroom after I shaved and said with how concentrated it was she got vibes of the blue/green nyquil. I don't see it, but, whatever. I said "too bad woman, deal with it."

No, I didn't. I said, "oh, it's the scent I've used every day this month and will for the rest of it." And then she patiently listened while I told her about my shaving with a straight razor experience. She's a gem, I love her, and I would marry her 10/10 times again.
