/u/saintbandicoot did an experiment with weighing soap before and after rinsing the tub. I'm a tub rinser (even when using the same tub all month), and never concerned myself with whatever gets rinsed down the sink.

That person took photos to show that they lost something like 3 grams of soap JUST by rinsing! Granted, they were using a soap base which is apparently known for going fast (Gentleman's Nod). I've never used that brand.

I recreated the experiment with Stirling, and I only lost 0.1 grams. So, basically nothing. Maybe it'd be 0.2 grams if I let the water evaporate a little bit before weighing... Either way, with a standard tub being 4 oz. (113 grams), it would take 565 rinses to deplete the entire tub.

Or, assuming 35 shaves out of a tub of soap, I'm rinsing 7 grams of soap down the drain during the life of the soap, which is .25 oz. So, maybe I'm wasting 1/16th of the tub by rinsing? This math is done with rounding up to .2 grams, so maybe I'm only wasting 1/32nd of the tub by rinsing assuming .1 grams per rinse.

So there you have it. I'm going to keep rinsing.
