June 18, 2024 – Lather Games 2024 Day 18: RIP in Pieces

  • Brush: Yaqi Sagrada Familia 24mm AP 2BED (re-knot)
  • Razor: Gillette Tech Ball Handle Z-1
  • Blade: Gillette Winner (9)
  • Lather: Mickey Lee Soapworks – Colonia di Agrumi
  • Post Shave: Mickey Lee Soapworks – Colonia di Agrumi
  • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Campania – EdT

Use of Theme: RIP in Pieces

Today’s soap is Mickey Lee Soapworks, to whom I paid tribute in my day four epic story, The Devil of the Saponic Seas. The base continues to be very good, yet it would have been exciting to see how it would have progressed with the others. I have to admit it was my own temperance that kept me from having more of it when it was readily available to me, as it was one of the handful of artisan products available at my local proprietor of shave wares and now home of the Ohio Wet Shavers Meetup—River’s Edge Cutlery. I did, however, acquire a tub of Sandalwood preshave butter, which I hardly use these days. That tub of Pantie Dropper always looked me squarely in the eye every time I visited. Mickey Lee soap finally made it into my trial rotation just as they were announcing their closure. I was lucky to get my tub and bottle of C di A before the primary market dried up. Colonia di Agrumi is an inspiration reminiscent of Aqua di Parma Colonia, a classic Italian scent that is bright, citrusy, and spring-like. It very much compliments today’s fragrant finish, Stirling Campania, which should come as no surprise. Campania is an homage to Fico di Amalfi, another scent from Acqua di Parma.

Daily Challenge: Wicked Edge

Say what you want about the other shaving sub. Having been a mod there for just over two years now, I’ve done my share of post removing and throwing ban hammers at idiots. Happily I have not had to throw any at my r/Wetshaving homies. Though some of you do irk me at times, just not on w_e. And I don’t really blame you. It’s just human nature to be spiteful and hypocritical. I’m just as guilty some times.

In the spirit of levity and good natured ribbing, here is my Wicked Edge post:

I’ve been a member of Wicked Edge for about two years, learning all I can about wet shaving. Despite trying numerous methods, I still haven’t found a solution, so I’m documenting my experience to outline my issues and seek advice.

I started shaving with a Gillette Sixtyblade when I was young, I decided to try a straight razor (Henson AL13), inspired by videos showing effortless shaves. However, I quickly realized that genetics play a significant role. For me, shaving with the grain doesn’t remove hair effectively, so I have to go against the grain, which results in severe irritation, burns, and bumps, so I went back to the new Gillette Eightyblade Electric Lab Superazor.

I want to return to wet shaving. I’ve been told that my flat-growing, thick beard and very sensitive skin will always make it impossible to wet shave my whole life, but I don’t want to give up.

Here are some pictures of the mess my acne-ridden, razor-bumpy, ingrown-infested, folliculitis face has become after trying everything people have told me to do. Can you help me?

Now, I will be the first to agree that society in general has forgotten what it is to laugh at ourselves. That’s why we have the fun we have here. But here’s to hoping you can find a source of humility and decency to be kind to one another. That is, treat others as you want to be treated.

❤️🍩
