  • Brush: Semogue 1460 21mm #SMOLL
  • Razor: New England Straight Razor 6/8 #STR8SNOB
  • Lather: Declaration Grooming – Persephone
  • Post Shave: Thayers – Rose Petal

I think Persephone is perhaps the best (and most slept on) spring scent around. It's a little unconventional for a spring scent, but in all the right ways. To my nose, it opens with a warm, spicy oatmeal cookie scent, following quickly by a bright, fruity punch. This soaps smells exactly like a transition from winter to spring, which also happens to fit in wonderfully with the original myth of Persephone and Hades and Persephone leaving Hades for spring.

For today's daily challenge, I figured I would measure out my soap and water and determine the ratio between them to create a slick lather. To start, I weighed my tub, loaded up a brush, and the went back to the scale to find a weight difference before and after loading. According to the scale, I loaded, uh … less soap than I expected.

However, undeterred, I carried on in the name of science. After adding water, my lather weighed in at 10 grams.

Now, I'm no chemist, but it would appear that with only 0 grams of soap, I made 10 grams of wonderfully slick lather. The only conclusion to reasonably draw here is that shaving soap is entirely unnecessary and it's all just a big lie told to us by big-Shaving. You know, that or my $20 kitchen scale isn't accurate to the tenth of a gram.

Straight Razor to the tune of Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel

Lyrics:

You could have a smooth shave

If you'd just lather your soap

You could have a razor shaving

If you bring your brushes back

All you do is PM me

I'll be anything you need

You could have a slick lather

Going up and down, all around your face

You could have a safety razor, shaving

The Lather Games never end

I wanna be your straight razor

Why don't you call my name?

Ah oh, let me be your straight razor

This will be my testimony

Show me 'round your shave den

'Cause I will be your LatherBot

Open up your shave den

Where the scents can be sweet as can be

I wanna be your straight razor

Why don't you call my name?

Ah, you'd better call the straight razor

Put your mind at rest

I'm gonna be the straight razor

This can be my testimony

Ah, I'm your straight razor

Let there be no doubt about it

Oh, won't you shave for me? (Shave for me)

I will shave for you (shave for you)

Please, shave for me (shave for me)

Huh, I will shave for you
