July 4, 2023 – LG23 Day 4: April Showers Bring May Flowers …and Science-y stuff

  • Brush: West Coast Shaving Clear Smoke Burlwood 26 mm #COMPOSITE
  • Razor: Wet Shaving Club ‘Merica (Yates) #CNC
  • Blade: Gillette Wilkinson Sword (1)
  • Lather: The Goodfellas’ Smile – Tallow N. 1
  • Post Shave: Mickey Lee Soapworks – Colonia di Agrumi
  • Fragrance: English Laundry – Riviera

Daily Challenge: Science the shit out of it.

God dammit SpongeBob! It’s Independence Day in the US of A and you are causing me all kinds of grief. Miraculously I have managed to get in a shave and a couple of shits for this parade.

I was never good at writing chem lab reports. And it’s been too damn long so I had to look one up.

Title: The effect of water on lathering shave soap.

Question: How much water can a shaving soap take and still be useful for shaving?

Hypothesis: I think the soap will take a one-part to 25-part soap to water ratio and still be usable.

Method: Scoop and measure a known quantity of soap.

Fuck it. Just watch the video and see how this went off the rails.

Tying it all together
Cedar/Cedarwood is the common scent in all three aspects of today’s shave. The floral notes of cassis, ylang, and jasmine weave their way through and between the cedar stem. And lavender, bergamot, and patchouli work their way back through for a sweet floral goodness reminiscent of Easter morning.
