  • Brush: Maggard Timberwolf Synthetic 24mm
  • Razor: Zertone 6/8 Straight Razor
  • Lather: Cella – Milano Crema Da Barba
  • Post Shave: Thayers – Rose Petal

Like many people do, I began wetshaving as a way to save money, though that plan has worked poorly. Cella is by far one of the cheapest lather products on the market. This sample cost me $1.80 at Maggard ($3.60 per ounce), and a 1 kilo brick is $37 (or $1.05 per ounce), handily beating Stirling's $2.46 per ounce. This razor was about $15 on amazon when I got it, although the only straight with the same branding I can find now is a $21.98 package. This brush cost $11.95, made with a Maggard knot and wood that I had laying around. The Thayer's was $10.99 for 12 ounces ($0.92 per fluid ounce). And, of course, the cheapest fragrance is no fragrance at all.

I usually find Cella to be good as a value soap, but not great as a soap. It works, but slightly more expensive options work much better. It mostly smells like marzipan, but there are a huge variety of better smelling almond soaps on the market.

A Lather That I Used to Know to the tune of Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye.

Lyrics:

Now and then I think of when we shaved together

Like when you said you felt so soapy you could die

Told myself that you were right for me

But felt so dried out in your company

But that was lather, and it's an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of slickness

Like resignation to the shave, always the shave

So when I found that I would not rather

Well, you said that we could still be shaved

But I'll admit that I was glad it was over

But you didn't have to cut my face

Make out like shaves never happened and lather was nothing

And I don't even need your lather

But you don’t treat me like any shaver, and that feels so rough

No, you just had to lather well

Have your friends collect your soaps and then change your number

I guess that I don't need that smell

Now you're just a lather that I used to know

Now you're just a lather that I used to know
