Awwww yisssss it's Fougère FffffffffFFFFFFUCK it's Frugal Friday isn't it
Well maybe we can still make this work anyway. Prices in CAD.
- Brush : What brush could be cheaper than no brush at all?
- Razor : According to my research and a handy inflation calculator, this beautiful fat-handle Tech sold for the modern equivalent of about $8.50... nothing else in my collection comes close to being that cheap. Can you imagine buying an all-brass safety razor for that price today? Wild. Such a good deal.
- Blade : At first glance these Titans look like they're the same price as any other cheap blade ($1.50 per pack) until you notice that it's a 10-pack instead of a 5-pack, making them by far the cheapest blades in my collection even without buying them in bulk. Price per shave may not be as good as some of my longer-lasting blades, but for sheer volume of blades per dollar they're a great choice. And they don't even suck that bad!
- Lather : At first I was worried I might be stuck with $11/150g Cella or $10/150g Proraso (which I needed for other days on my calendar) until I noticed that my can of Gillette Foamy is a whopping 311 grams for $3.77. Phew! Looks like I get to shave with a fougère after all today! Good ol' shaving-cream-scented-shaving-cream... classic anisic fougère. And barely more than a penny per gram - even Stirling, the best deal in artisan shave soap, is more like a dime per gram. I know I need more Foamy for a shave than soap, but I strongly suspect that this stuff might actually be more economical than the higher-priced artisans on the market.
- Post Shave : Aqua Velva is 235ml for $5.99 up here, making it about 1/10th the price per ml of most artisanal aftershaves. I'm so glad I enjoy Aqua Velva and Skin Bracer - that has allowed me to save so many hundreds of dollars by not buying matching aftershaves for all my soaps. Plus the green version (exclusive to Canada) is a mossy fougère with a serious smooth soapy vibe... niiiiiiiice.
- Fragrance : Lomani pour Homme, at $8.95/100ml when I bought it on the grey market, very narrowly beats out my plastic-bottle Brut Eau de Cologne at $8.99/100ml... and what is it? Damn right it's another barbershop fougère, this one a more-soapy twist on Drakkar Noir. And it's enjoyable! Nine dollars and I actually Enjoy wearing it! Wild. Who needs something like Creed anyway?
Damned good Frugal Fougère Friday shave.
