Now since I am not a historian nor am I a native of the USA I cannot speak on the topic of slavery in the States. But I can share our own story of 500 years of Ottoman slavery, which has inadvertently changed our history as a nation.
Bulgaria is an old country, established, way back in 681. And it had 2 golden periods, as they are called by historians. That is up until the slavery of the Ottoman Empire took over at 1396, up until 1878.
During these five centuries, the Ottoman Empire tried to assimilate our nation as much as they could, repressing the Christian religion, destroying churches and inculcating the muslim religion and values.
There are many horrible things that happened during those years, but probably none is more horryfying than the "blood tax". Non-Muslims did not serve in the Sultan's army. The exception to this were some groups of the population with specific statute, usually used for auxiliary or rear services, and the infamous blood tax, also known as devşirme, where young Christian Bulgarian boys were taken from their families, enslaved and converted to Islam and later employed either in the Janissary military corps or the Ottoman administrative system. Many of these boys were sent back to slaughter their families, sometimes not even remembering who they were killing.
I apologize for the heavy topic in writing, I just found it fitting to share something from my culture that is not that popular and contributes to the theme, in a way.
Now, onto the shave. House of Mammoth was the winner of this year's sub battle for most preferred/liked artisan. For which I am extremely happy, I even voted for Mr. Ben, who is a great guy and makes one of my favourite soaps and scents! The thing that I like the most about Mr. Ben, is that he(like me, I know great minds think alike) hates dupes, or at least dupes being used in the world of wetshaving!
What about the Durham Duplex? I have modern blades for this sucker, that I have yet to try, but the original ones are doing a great job. I have to admit that I prefer the WECK, but still DD provides a great and soft shave, a real no-bullshit shave. And it looks metal AF! For some reason I am drawn to these old types of razors/shavettes!
Daily Challenge
I see that some people have been very ingenious with their use of the memes, embroiding them in their write ups, honestly I don't know if I am able to do that. So I present to you 40 memes I did for you: MEMES
But for those who do not want to go through them all, I'll share some I liked a lot. Some for my favourites like u/Priusaurus and u/tsrbike. Some about our favourite artisan. Some about pushing the boundaries in forums. Some that prove how awesome I am. Some about the unspoken truths that u/merikus knows all too well about!
I want to end with this statement. By default I win today's challenge, because I am a living, walking, spite shaving, butt freezing, car jacking, sock creaming, alum snorting meme!
