June 18, 2024 - RIP in Pieces

  • Brush: Yaqi Surf 22mm
  • Razor: Yates Precision Manufacturing - 921-H
  • Blade: Feather - New Hi Stainless x2
  • Lather: K Shave Worx - Bitter Peach
  • Post Shave: Clubman - After Shave Lotion

Today's Theme: Thank you to u/Eructate for the K Shave Worx Bitter Peach smush. Thankfully it was generously sized because I want to give it another shot.

Today's Challenge: Why am I still getting irritation? I have super duper über thick wiry facial hair growth. It is extremely tough to cut through and every method of shaving thus far has proved ineffective. It is like cutting metal. My new routine consists getting together the best gear known to man.

I start out by stropping Feather blades on my jorts because I find that Feathers need just a little more refinement. When I say Feathers, I mean it. I read that using shims is a super good idea to get more aggressiveness to shave my ultra wiry hair, so why not use an Feather that has been professionally stropped? Hopefully using a razor with a 0.040" blade gap and positive blade exposure will be enough to hack down my inhuman growth.

I whip up my lather into a creamy, thick, dense, voluminous and yogurty consistency and apply it. I know my lather isn't the problem because this is normally how I see people build lathers on YouTube, they must be experts otherwise they wouldn't post videos.

I always do WTG, XTG, and ATG with the hottest water out of the tap to rinse the razor. I have to use a lot of pressure to really cut down the hair even with two blades and still had a lot of tugging. I finished off my shave with a small amount of Clubman and it burnt so so sooo badly, but it felt good because I’m a closeted masochist. Can anybody help me figure out why I get razor burn, irritation, and a super dry face afterwards? I am at my wit's end with this shitty, dumb, old man style of shaving.
