I started the day with Declaration Grooming's Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli soap, which was a collaboration with Chatillon Lux. I don’t get a ton of Patchouli from the soap, the rose and citrus make it feel like I was transported to a serene Japanese garden. The zesty citrus is the first to greet your senses—a bright, citrusy note that dances around, waking you up gently. As the lather built up, the rose added layer of soft, floral sophistication. But deep down is the earthy patchouli that anchors everything, grounding the scent in so it’s not TOO light and floral.
As I worked the rich, creamy lather onto my face, I felt like a zen master preparing for a meditative moment of bliss. The slickness was great, the cushion of the lather was luxurious, and the scent was bringing me close to mediation. I glided the razor over my stubble like a rake in a zen garden. I kinda wish I could experience this shave for longer.
Post-shave, I reached for Patchouli Peach by Elysian Soap Shop. Now, if the soap was a serene Japanese Zen Garden, the splash was like stepping into a sunlit orchard. The initial hit of patchouli is present, familiar and grounding, but it quickly melds with the sweet, juicy scent of ripe peaches. It’s refreshing, invigorating, and adds a playful twist to the sophisticated notes of the soap.
To cap off the shave, I spritzed on Chatillon Lux – Yuzu/Rose/Patchouli. The same scent of the soap to close out the SOTD. This fragrance is the grand finale, tying everything together with its sophisticated blend. The scent comes across so much better in the fragrance than it does in the soap. The yuzu’s brightness, the rose’s elegance, and the patchouli’s earthy depth harmonized perfectly, creating a scent that beautifully lingered throughout the day. It was like carrying a piece of the morning’s tranquility with me as I went about my day.
Challenge: I couldn’t really think of any good songs about Patchouli, so I’m going with Roses by Outkast
