June 7, 2024 – Vetiver You Want
- Brush: Semogue 2000 #OLDWORLD
- Razor: Merkur – 34C
- Blade: Gillette Silver Blue
- Lather: Martin de Candre - Vetyver
- Post Shave: Giorgio Armani – Emporio Armani He aftershave balm
- Fragrance: Giorgio Armani – Emporio Armani He EDT
- The Lather: Martin de Candre’s base is quite different than I expected. It is a much more solid base that scooped out more like a chunk then a scoop. It flattened out relatively well in my bowl though and lathered up surprisingly easier than I would have expected given its consistency. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of vetiver, and I couldn’t get past the idea of shaving with grass clippings.
- The Shave: It was one pass against the grain, FML. I knew the struggle would be real today so I used my mildest razor for the job and hoped it wouldn’t be too much of a blood bath. I probably erred on the gentler side on my angle of attack and subsequently got a patchy, half assed look after one pass. Thankfully I have to wear a mask at work so I could at least hide my shame.
- Aftershave/Frag: I decided to pair the Vetyver with Emporio Armani He to increase my vetiverness. Until I smelled the 2 side by side I never would have noticed the vetiver note in He. It doesn’t come across as strongly as the grassy soap, but I can definitely pick up on the vetiver and it blended beautifully with soap so I felt less like I rubbed my face in the grass.
- Theme: It’s named Vetyver, enough said.
- Challenge: One pass against the grain to give me the most painful and crappy shave I could ask for. I’m just thankful the judges don’t try and combine this with New All The Things.
