2023-07-26 Lather Games SOTD

  • Brush: Semogue 2015 HD (22x55mm Badger)
  • Razor: "77" shavette with SHAVE⭐DANDY scales #YTHO
  • Blade: Cloud 62mm x 16mm (3)
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving - Rive Gauche (Experimental Formula 22.1)
  • Post Shave: Fine Accoutrements - American Blend
  • Fragrance: Shawn Maher - Untitled Feats of Fragrance 2022 Grand Prize

Mostly unique stuff today I expect? Hope? I hate getting out of bed early, so I didn't - not even to post a bullshit "place holder" like some people do before they shave so nobody else can use their soap.

  • Semogue silvertip badger. I'm not sure that I've ever seen anybody else use the 2015 HD on r/wetshaving... I think it's more of a B&B brush, generally.
  • Chinese scissor-style shavette that came bundled with a box of "77" style blades; I liked the razor but hated the original stainless steel scales because uh BALANCE so I re-scaled it myself. I feel out of practice with shavettes over the last couple years though so I've been practicing with my guarded-blade Artist Club all month, prepping for today's shave. Glad I took the time to practice because this thing is dangerous if I mess up with it.
  • "77" style blade, which is basically like a long stretched-out DE blade that measures 62x16 instead of the usual 43x22. Not sure why they're called 77 but they're labeled that way on several companies' packages.
  • Experimental Spearhead soap sample scented with some YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme pre-blend he had kicking around. Smells mostly like Rive Gauche with a hint of Clubman. Think I got this from /u/VisceralWatch who got it from somebody else who got it from somebody else?
  • Another Rive Gauche dupe for the aftershave because they smelled gud together.
  • My grand prize from last year's Feats of Fragrance competition, because it paired so nicely with the shave-cream-scented soap and splash: I told Shawn I wanted a straight up 80s-90s style barbershop that would feel at home with classics like Paco Rabanne, Azzaro, Drakkar Noir, Rive Gauche, Le Male... so that's what he made me. There's no official title or official marketing notes, but it's a great take on the classic "shave cream" scent family without being a fougère (wild, I know). Scent notes might be described as something like: green citruses and aquatic notes; soft spices and clary sage; clean creamy sandalwood and patchouli; and enough white musk that it exists as a distinct Scent rather than just as a fixative. That's right - no lavender or mosses. Crazy, right?

No fresh den tour because it hasn't really changed much since two years ago, aside from getting messier.
