Chypre! Sheep-ruh! Shee-it, it happened again - it isn't chypre day any more and it isn't even cream day this time. Oh well, how about yet another round of chypres / cream product for Christmas in July's Eve? Good thing /u/wallygator88 sent me some applicable samples last year. He's a good dude.
OSP Chypre cream is a basic citrus-heavy chypre, and it's a cream so soft it could be squeezed from a tube. Its published scent notes omit the usual labdanum from the chypre accord, but whatever - it still very much fits the olfactory character of the genre. Same deal for Ice Blue: Fragrantica may classify it as an aromatic aquatic, but there's a charming fresh chypre base under that minty lemon opening... sans the traditional patchouli (though some days I could almost swear there Is some in there). And the fragrance today? Despite its drug-stores-and-Walmart reputation, Stetson is actually a highly regarded floral chypre (4/5 stars from Turin, for example)... and once again it omits some of the usual accord notes from its marketing materials. I ain't give a damn whether they're in the formula or not though because I think it smells darned good. Love the spicy floral heart of this stuff.
Challenge: I want to single out /u/VisceralWatch for being supportive of every goofy thing I do, whether it's re-scaling a cheap Chinese shavette or making novelty shave soap or dabbling in pomade formulation or whatever. Very positive and encouraging dude. I'm glad I've gotten to know him through this community even though we're 2000 km apart.
