Thirsty Thursday, and after yesterday's abomination I feel like a drink.

Decided something a little refreshing, both in scent and feel with Margaritas in the Arctic. First, but not last, use of Stirling this games. It really is the workhorse of the shaving world, nothing uber fancy, doesn't cost you a ton but just chugs along getting the job done and done well. A nice little chill off the back on this one, along with a drink to follow.

Hardware to accompany it is my Lather Games prize from last year (thank you again u/Ironbeard_SYS), I still love it and it has broken in incredibly well. Along with that is one of my two Koraats, this one I picked up on TSR BST a couple of years ago. Nice 6/8 near wedge, I've come to prefer full hollows but the added weight with this is a nice change of pace at times.

WetTubing Apreciation Day

Sadly not enough time to record a shave this morning, the snaps yesterday were a stretch with the standard morning rush to get out the door. So I'll have to cover it from the WetTuber/Shafluencer angle, frankly though not much has changed from last year. I still go back to Lynn for how-to's on straight honing, though I have expanded marginally to Keith Johnson when I was looking for advice on natural stones, specifically a Welsh Slate hone I grabbed from JJShaves. I've caught a couple of product reviews at the beginning and flicked through to the end for a summary (which were grand), but sorry VisceralWatch I still don't watch other people shave - well apart from my fellow contestants of course.

A stunning new scent by A&E, which smells just like cherry Coke, believe it or not. I liked it so much I bought it on sight (or scent?) at the recent Meetup. It's very rich and quite well done, and I told Peter that he really outdid himself with this one. Another refreshing, pleasant shave for a Thursday morning.

It's the Thirsty Thursday edition of the Lather Games and I decided to show up with a handle of bourbon. Not that I am here to encourage alcohol consumption this early in the morning, or, for some like our youngest competitor u/bacconchop, ever (don't do it man! The Shaving Overlords are watching). I've never used Areffa Soap from the Ukraine before, but I received this sample soap and splash in a Pasteur's order. Figured LG was a good time to break it out. I have no idea what base this soap is and I do know Areffa has produced some soaps with bear and I think badger tallow. These folks clearly don't fuck around. Regardless, the shave was solid. Scent-wise? I'm happy to say that I won't get arrested for operating under the influence of a post-shave contact drunk. My coworkers wll also not be slipping me the number for our EAP either. All in all, a good shave...

...That I memorialized in my first ever shaving video. As a fan of very chill shaving content like Haircut Harry (It's great nighttime-need to be lulled to sleep content), I decided to take a more ASMR approach to my first go-round. Also, my wife and dogs were asleep in the next room and if I woke them up because I was talking loudly to myself making a 'shaving video', well, let's just say the whole "Happy Spouse, Happy House" thing would get off to a rocky start today. Is this video going to top the content put out by our man u/VisceralWatch? God no. He has the benefit of using his dulcet tones to extoll the virtues of whatever products he is using. Maybe in my next video attempt, I'll pull out my radio DJ voice of old (first career) and we can see who's got the dulcetest of dulcet voices in the wetshaving world.

About the intoxicating beverages of this shave:

Did ya know C affine is one of the most used mind altering substances in the world? Yup the cup of coffee - it plays a bit with your mind. Fortunately, mostly in a useful way, but yeah, technically it is psychoactive. Just don't forget ya gotta go to sleep sometime.

Alcohol, the ethanol kind (and only the ethanol kind...never methanol or isopropyl - know your poisons...no need to go blind or die here immediately) is another of the most oft used psychoactive substances in the world. Coffee and booze does create some nice beverages for example Irish Coffee, Kahlua, Tia Maria, and so on).

But why not throw in another intoxicant? Absinthe, also known as the "Green Fairy" is an anisette (anise flavored liqueur) that contains wormwood. Wormwood is a plant that contains thujone. This particular booze flourished in the late 19th and early 20th century bohemian culture. Detractors of the drink basically had better more focused propaganda and it became generally outlawed due to the supposed mind melting attributes of the drink. A light rebirth has followed first in Europe in several countries, then in the United States after a change in law in 2007 (for thujone free versions). There is a sort of ritual for drinking it where a sugar cube is placed on a special spoon across the rim of the cup and the Absinthe is slowly poured over it.

So, whatever the case, drink responsibly, have a driver ready.

A quick note about the razor:

Rob Lovan (Stirling Soap Co.) wanted his own razor on his own terms. A 316 stainless steel razor to his design, machined in the USA, and certainly not a mild razor. The razor was sold with three handle options. I opted for the Austin. There were two plates available and I have both. The plates are a standard "ST" plate and a hyper aggressive "HA" plate. The ST plate is quite efficient and does have blade feel. The HA plate is damn well a shavette on a stick. I don't have an R41 but I do have an Ikon Tek head and it is a well mannered gentleman compared to the HA plate. It is rare that I opt for using the HA plate but really do enjoy the ST plate.

While I don't have a favorite YouTube shaver I have watched many a YouTube shaver sweat through a shave using the HA plate.

My time shaving with RAWR has come to an end. This was a fantastic experience, and gotta say Noble Otter made something quite special, especially when you know the story behind it. Cody would take his children to a theme park in their neighboring state of Arkansas once or twice a year. The kids absolutely loved the dino exhibit there and would grow to be so enamored by dinosaurs that they would pop out behind the couch and yell RAWR whenever their father came home from work. The scent was inspired by a cocktail that the theme park offered that was made to celebrate their dinosaur exhibit. Hence, RAWR shaving soap.

Today's fragrance selection are two that I am quite fond of. I actually ordered these two at the same time, thus when I got them I had to try them both on the same day, and accidentally discovered they work super well together IMO. The dusty, suave, and muskiness of Midnight Special set a great foundation for the dark, semi bitter Mousse de Saxe of Full Measure. A great combo that paints a scene of flying around in space with a gang of misfits.

Happy Thursday, beautiful people! Welcome to the sixth shave of the 2024 Lather Games. Today's theme is “Thirsty Thursday” where we shave with a lather inspired by a beverage.

I am going with Talent Soap Factory’s Oktoberfest, a limited edition scent they produced last year to celebrate the Oktoberfest beer festival. I’m not sure what all is supposed to be in here scent wise, this was provided to me as a “first time customer” sample from TSF and the marketing verbiage is no longer up, but if you’ve ever been somewhere with a lot of beer drinking (and spilling) going on, outdoors, in the sun, where volatiles waft readily, you have a good idea what this smells like.

The brush, in addition to fitting the vintage nature of the razor and being refurbished by the same artisan as my lather, is my triple threat #SMOLL #RUNT #FRANKENBRUSH entry for the Lather Games. A vintage handle from the mid-20th re-knotted with a modern 20mm synthetic and set with 48mm loft.

The razor is a bit special, it’s a mint condition Blue Star Lady Gillette, and today will be using it for the first time.

The Wet Tuber daily challenge is another returning challenge I always passed on. This year I’m going to change that up and fulfill the requirement of being a wet tuber for a day. So, if you have 8 minutes, here you go:

Shave is close, no issues there. Wound up with some minor nicks on my throat but nothing major. Later this month I’ll have another vintage razor shave.

Zingari Software sponsor point: Smitten Soapery is a Zingari brand that seems to get revived every once in a while. I wanted to support Heather selling soap under a different name, so I got all four scents. Vote with my wallet, so-to-speak.

Theme, post & frag relevance: This soap is bourbon and sandalwood scented, boozily within theme. I wonder whether it was the starting point for The Duo which also features Bourbon and Sandalwood, but adds a few more scent notes. Both the lather and splash have a very creamy sandalwood note, and Stirling's drier Sandalwood frag leads the progression out of the gourmand category, bookending the theme. The drink is done, time to head back to the bar.

Challenge: I remain puzzled by the wettubing genre, so this challenge is always tricky for me. I mean, I enjoy u/VisceralWatch's videos and watch them regularly, but that's because I'm interested in what my friend has to say rather than my urge to consume wetshaving video content (and because he – conveniently – sends me reminders when a new video drops because he knows that I don't subscribe to anything on youtube and would miss them otherwise). But this year is diffenent! I actually do have a non-VisceralWatch wettuber I watch regularly, and it's our very own u/GcGallant who has started honing straightrazors on video. Go check out his content, he is much more knowledgeable about razor maintentance than VisceralWatch.

#photocontest: The modern resurrection brush next to the antique shiny Darwin Hollow Ground is a sprinkle of colour in this Black and White tableau. I hope it's still in the spirit of the theme that I got rid of only most of the colour.

I use this soap once a year, not because I don’t love it but because I love it so much. Easily one of my top 5 favorites and it is so easy to lather and smells like chocolate. Whenever I use this I go with an unscented aftershave and I can smell it all day. This tub is probably 5-6 years old and hasn’t lost any of that glorious scent (if anyone has some they want to unload, hit me up). I will probably cry a little when I empty this but at this rate I may have another 20 years.

I know today’s theme is drink inspired and I definitely think this is more coffee than tobacco. I always feel like this probably even tastes good, even though I haven’t tried it. So if Garrett happens to be reading this, if you ever decide to make a return to soap making, do this one!!

Daily/Special Challenge: WetTubing Appreciation Day

I’ll be honest, I was really hoping that this challenge wouldn’t happen this year. Nobody needs to watch me shave. That being said, mama didn’t raise no bitch.

So without further ado: LINK. Note: I did not whip up my lather during the video, because who wants to watch me look at a bowl for a few minutes? I recorded my shave, as instructed. I wanted to do a more proper silent film style edit, but as someone who isn’t a great editor I think this is a good effort.

Mint Juleps are just that classic mint cocktail (more so than the Mojito, IMO). Saint Julep hits it dead on.

Now onto the shave!

You can hear most of this in the video. Kentucky Bourbon is not my favorite Areffa soap, but the badger base is nice. The smell is a little off; doesn’t quite smell like bourbon to me. That being said, I don’t drink too much bourbon, so maybe I’m wrong. The actual soap is more on the cream side of a croap, but not fully a cream. It lathers wonderfully and is very slick. I still like her bear tallow more.

I get much more bourbon out of Smash, and Saint Julep does complement the aftershave. However, Smash does overpower SJ, and the it’s a much lighter scent. Smash should dissipate before too long, though, leaving the nice, minty, Saint Julep scent.

The Pure Bliss knot was great. Can’t wait to use it more to see where it stacks up against my other favorite synths, but after one use it looks very promising. The Oryx handle from Bundubeard was also fantastic. It was extremely easy to whip up a lather with this combo, despite my still swollen hands. Plus, the thing just looks fantastic.

Travel Shave #2.

Enjoyed a brisk cup of "nostalgic, sweet, carbonated fountain soda" for today's shave. 🥤 Love this root beer scent. This particular tub features Talent Soap Factory's earlier base; it always treats me well, though I think I have a Betti soap or two, and those are also good. Hope more folks try this little Etsy soaper now that TSF is a Lather Games sponsor.

The K.I.S.S. spearmint scent of this balm is good match for the minty aspects of FIZZ. The fragrance, on the other hand, had to be selected from my small-container-o'-samples in my dopp kit. Fortunately, a pour of sparkling rosé is on theme.

I'll admit that I don't watch much WetTube content anymore, with the exception u/VisceralWatch, so not real helpful for today's challenge.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE: Not gonna record a shave to protect my secret identity, but I’ll play. I don’t watch wetshaving YouTube videos any longer, but when I first started, I watched a ton of them as I was learning the ropes. In the spirit of IMCDB, here are my top five wetshaving Youtubers. Granted, I haven’t heard them all, but I watched a million a few years back.

1. IMCDB: I found him to be super engaging. Loved his lists. Devoured them. Skipped the PAA, but dug the rest. My scent wheelhouse didn’t exactly coincide with his; he was typically more into the fruitier scents, and I was more into the natural/earthy smells. But I still dug his lists.

2. Latherhog: He got me into Mammoth. Enjoyable, knowledgeable.

3. KevyShaves: who doesn’t like listening to that Scottish accent? Super engaging.

4. Greg Tardif: funny, goofy. This is a goofy hobby.

5. Michael Freedberg: The best. So helpful and informative. As I was starting out I learned more from him than any other YouTuber-about things like how to build a good lather, razor technique, etc. I think he and a couple of these guys are no longer YouTubers-too bad for those just getting into this.

I guess I’ll have to listen to visceralwatch.

Unfortunately, the judges have been on my tail recently, as I am sure they are on u/sukirem's as well meaning I haven't been able to post about my shaves, though I, of course have been doing them. That's because I'm always shaving, just as we all are. We are in a constant state of shave and as we've uncovered the judges want to keep it all hushed up. They want the true power of this sub and the world to never be realized. Well, we'll show them, my fellow wet shavers.

As you can see this shave is on theme, though I doubt the judges will award a point despite the very real shave that should very much be counted for a point. I was sent this smush by u/sukirem himself with a note saying that it was the wrong type of "lager" for the city he was in at the time but it's all he could get his hands on. Of course, this smells like an IPA not a lager of any can so it must be a hint to his location this week, right?

Have you been following along so far? Remember, those who complete The Search for Sukirem will have the chance to win this year's Air Bud Rule Treasure! Today was a caffeinated adventure in shaving! Because what’s better than starting your day with a triple-shot of coffee-drink scents? Today’s line-up is a coffee lover’s dream: Iced Coffee Soap, Maple Coffee Splash, and Sidama Fragrance. I’m feeling wired just typing this out!

First up, Stirling’s Iced Coffee soap. Because why just drink your caffeine when you can lather it too? It is the LATHER Games after all! The invigorating scent of iced coffee hit me with a shot of menthol to really wake me up - like a double espresso on a Monday morning. Lathering up with this soap had me feeling wide awake before I even had my first cup. My face was thanking me for the refreshingly cool wake-up call. Who needs sleep when you have menthol coffee goodness?

To finish off the shave, Elysian Soap Shop’s Maple Coffee Splash. This stuff smells like Sunday brunch at your favorite diner – you know, the one where they serve pancakes drenched in maple syrup with a bottomless cup of coffee. Splashing this on was like giving my face a sweet, caffeinated hug. I half expected to look in the mirror and see a stack of pancakes staring back at me. It’s deliciously comforting and felt my face feeling great.

Finally, I finished my routine by spraying a couple spritzes of Gentleman’s Nod Sidama. The scent of Ethiopian coffee beans, rich and complex, adds a sophisticated finish to a caffeinated cocktail. It’s the perfect fragrance for today’s shave and those who like a perfectly brewed cup of coffee. The earthy, slightly spicy notes make it clear that while you might enjoy a sugary coffee splash, you’re still all about that high-quality bean life.

So, there you have it, folks – a shave that’s sure to wake you up and keep you smelling like the best parts of a coffeehouse. My face is now a testament to the wonders of caffeine, from the invigorating chill of iced coffee to the comforting sweetness of maple syrup, all rounded out with the sophisticated aroma of Sidama coffee.

If you’re not a coffee lover, this setup may not be for you, but I am, so this is exactly for me! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to conquer the day smelling like a fully stocked coffee bar radiating from my freshly shaven face.

Challenge: I honestly haven’t really gotten into wettubing. The one video that helped me more than anything was this one from CosmoBarber Shaving, that was shared with me when I first started using artisan soaps and such. I'm ashamed to say I don't think I've seen a u/VisceralWatch video, so I don't know how they compare but would appreciate it if someone could link a couple must watch ones!

Its pleasure to use today this mentholated soap. Is very hot here and to be honest i used it only summer accompanied with real gin and tonic. My favorite gin is Bombay Sapphire and actually the only gin I drink. Karve The Christopher Bradley OC-C is today choice. I felt D plate more aggressive but very efficient. Last year i looking for more aggressiveness and now i try to find most efficient shaving with least blade feel and aggressiveness. Open comb is always be my true love! It was really nice shave ! CHALLENGE FOR WHOM?

Today offers various challenges to various people.

For me, a big one is trying to remain civil and politely sip my cup of tea while I try to share with you my constructive disagreement about WetTubing.

"If this is truly impossible...", you pre-emptively concede.

Well, it is impossible.

Not logistically, but logically.

Here, let's try not to be emotional, and rely on rational thinking to calmly discuss the issue with quiet, dignity, and grace.

IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSE TO BLABBER ABOUT HOW INSIGHTFUL WET SHAVING IS, HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO TAKE A MOMENT JUST FOR OURSELVES, AND THEN ASK FOR A FUCKING VIDEO OF IT!

If you have some kind of insecure histrionic itch to scratch, just follow Randy's lead and stop pestering me here!

But if you keep asking me for my own video, this is what I do have for you!

Guys, today's challenge is not for me, but for you.

Just make peace with your own brains and start making sense.

I am still a newbie and still too mad to remember names and make effective searches, but the one member of this sub who did a meaningul YT upload is [edited to add name] u/phteven_j, the guy who contacted the late Gilbert Gottfried ~~that American comedian~~ thru Cameo to do a video about shaving and brushing your teeth. Remind me his name and link and I'll be happy to edit accordingly. His video says everything.

FOF WRITEUP

Hard to write this one, because I'm still madder than a mad hatter at a tea party.

For my pre-shave shower I decided to start with the soft, soothing notes of BM Chesire, a scent that for me works perfectly as a nice "background" that smells good without being imposing.

Then I turned to the NO The et Vanille soap + AS set, as it was my first time using them (I had previously only tried a sample of the TeV soap), and I wanted to take them together to an open road test.

While the soap mostly delivers a Jasminey-forward note, that can somewhat evoke the olfatctory world of tea, the AS provides additional depth not only with the titular vanilla note (not that perceivable in my soap tub), but also with an orange note that, combined with jasmine, almost veers towards a strawberry-ish accord.

As overall the NO dickhole combo leans toward a gourmand accord, I felt the need to add a layer of complexity.

I thus decided to try my sample of Masque Milano's Russian Tea: while the actual Russian Tea beverage (to which I paid homage in my picture with a cup of Damman Freres Grand Gout Russe) leans citrusy gourmand, Masque scent not only provides all of it (with raspberry instead of strawberry), but also adds a rather transparent leathery-spicy accord that finally reminded me of the "darker", tannic black tea vibes that were still missing from the picture.

I do like NO TeV, but in the future I think I'll not repeat the combo, so to tweak the gourmandy-ness with something darker.

My experiment with Masque was great, but I was so mad that I accidentally broke my sample vial while i was putting it back, so I will not be able to trying it again anytime soon.

Thirsty Thursday:
Musashi is one of Gentleman's Nod's Origin series, which are scents built around a single note or accord. While it does say "jasmine tea" right on the label, but I wanted to be sure that jasmine tea was indeed the accord that Musashi was built around. So I asked Gentleman's Nod, who said:

You are correct, it was Jasmine green tea.

Yeah, yeah, it's so boring to use the same scent for both the later and post-shave, but it was for the benefit of two days' photos. Obviously, then, that couldn't be helped.

Musashi has yuzu floating on top, which I could do without, but I've been told that "scents need top notes," and I dare say that I'm gonna trust u/hawns on that one.

There's a woodiness to it that brings to mind my grad school days of yore, when I used to stop into a caffeinery for a green tea on my way to teaching an early class. A girl working there often remarked that it smelled to her like a cup of grass or hay. I didn't agree, but I could see why she said that. But I digress.

Despite the fact that jasmine is indisputably prominently featured in Musashi, I don't get much of it. Enter Fox in the Flowerbed. To no one's surprise, it is definitely floral, and opens up strong with a beautiful jasmine that emodies jasmine tea perfectly. Perfectly. It smells more like Jasmine Green Tea than Musashi. I fucking love it. Alas, the jasmine fades off soon, then there remains as a mellow hint of something I can't quite put my finger on, but it's subtle.

If you don't want to watch all of that, just skip to the end. Or don't watch it at all, because this is the real one, which I still don't recommend you watch all of. Nothing I wanted to do with it worked out. I'm not going to give it all away, because I'm still holding out hope for the hat-based challenge that we almost had a couple years ago but hasn't been done. The hat didn't work well while trying to negotiate the straight, anyway.

Speaking of the razor, it satisfies the tag, but it is a truly crappy straight, not to suggest that I have remotely-extensive experience with them—quite the contrary.

However, my personal, subjective experience obviously represents categorical fact. This Truth was recently called into question, compelling my mother—my dear, sweet mother—to swiftly propel herself off of the Cliffs of Dover yesterday, plummeting headlong into the Bering Strait, which separates Bablyon from Uppsala, to her watery demise. Not one half of a fortnight later, her remains washed up on the shores of Patagonia, where she was indicted into secular sainthood and celebrated in a festival of seven years. She was immortalized into a mile-high statue that remains to this day.

Behold! Let it thus be known that because I do not get a good shave out of this crappy, photogenic razor, that all straight razors are garbage and no one should use them! They are antiquated and inferior to DE razors in every way! It is spoken!

As for #photocontest, this photo fell together too well to be needlessly ruined by throwing in some random junk. Is it a winner? Probably not, but it's too good to be sullied.

Most lathers today will be inspired by beverages today, this lather actually HAS real beverage in it; real brewed coffee. Over a billion people drink it every day. And this scent from Wet the Face is incredible; it has actual grounds in it, and smells exactly like whole beans in the grocery store. It does give a bit of burn, but worth it for the great scent.

Whipping it up with a mixed brush and scraping it off is a Rolls razor honed by the master u/whosgotthepudding to throwback the timelessness of coffee this morning.

I originally started down the rabbit hole after googling how to lather Proraso, and stumbled across a GeoFatBoy video. He's the OG for sure, but his more recent videos have felt much more salesy. Ken Surfs is another classic, I enjoy his content for the Bond memorabilia. u/VisceralWatch gets to use the best items I'm interested in, but he doesn't make enough content, which is of course totally understandable as he does it for fun, but please, give the people what they want!

Video Day! I’ll save most of my commentary for the video itself. But suffice it to say there is shaving, mimosas and an assessment of (almost) week 1 lather games. Plus, a new brush with the Pure Bliss Knot to review. And maybe some trash talk for a certain champion who can’t bring himself to show his face to the sub. I do need to cover some things for the theme and side challenges here. But join me over on the video, it’s bad but it’s under 7 minutes.

For #fof I’m carrying the orange through the shave. Sunday Brunch is Mimosas. He managed to put the smell of bubbles in here I’m not even sure how. I’ve bugged u/C_Bubbles for a Sunday Brunch EdT but apparently it won’t last because it’s all citrus and wouldn’t last more than 10 minutes. Everett hits that same citrus high, but with a wonderful marshmallow base note that keeps going. This setup works, and it works well. I hadn’t used the Everett set yet, but I’m glad I picked up a 2ml sprayer of the EdT (because I couldn’t justify a full bottle with so many other full bottles.)

For #photocontest since my shave is an ode to weekends, let’s look at hobbies. Here’s my ham Radio. I lurk on the related subs, (r/amateurradio and r/hamradio) occasionally post there. (They are not as fun loving as this sub, trust me. It’s like Badger and Blade, but about antennas.) You’ll see ham again because it’s a hobby geared towards DIY.

June 6, 2024 – LG Day 6 – It Is Thursday and I Am Thirsty for Lather

Coffee. Possibly the greatest beverage ever created. Today, our journey begins in a sweet, creamy mug of coffee with a splash of bourbon and a level of cream and sugar that would make any Bostonian Dunkin regular proud. It smells like the coffee milk I used to enjoy on vacations with my family growing up; as a little kid, I wanted to drink coffee like the adults, so we got a glass of milk with a little coffee and probably some sugar. If we were Rhode Islanders, we would have known about coffee syrup, which is even better. Then, to honor my partner’s favorite coffee flavor, we follow with a cornucopia of hazelnuts and vanilla, with some notes of woods and vetiver to round everything out – still sweet, though. Wouldn’t want to give up on our sweet coffee theme. If hazelnut coffee tasted like this smells, I might actually like drinking it. Finally, Kerosene Follow. Maple and vanilla keep the air of sweetness about, but bitterness comes through as well in this rather realistic coffee accord, so I can feel a little more grown-up and celebrate the type of coffee I actually drink. Just like me, dark and bitter. #FOF

Wonderful. Just like freshly squeezed lemon juice by which it was inspired. As the saying goes - “lemon juice is not real lemon juice unless it is Sicilian”.

Today I shaved with Stirling Boat Drinks soap and a Prometheus/SynBad combo. I used a fat handle tech with a Polsilver blade. I followed up with Margaritas in the Arctic aftershave and Boat Drinks edt.

Long time hater of shaving videos. Calling it WetTubing makes it sound even more wack.

Coffee. I’d argue coffee is the most important beverage in the United States of America, possibly even the world. Coffee is the only thing keeping our society functioning and holding other stimulants at bay. If all of a sudden, all the coffee plants disappeared off the face of the earth, I think a different plant from Columbia would become this country’s drug of choice. But thankfully, coffee plants aren’t going the way of the Gros Michel (RIP) just yet. So, you ease up on your plans to become the next Pablo Escobar while we’re all able to count on getting our next morning cup of joe without issue.

Most days, black coffee is the only flavored beverage I drink (shout-out hydro-homies), so it’s natural for me that I love coffee scented products. And one thing I’ve found: it is REALLY hard for artisans to make coffee scented products. It seems like a lot of them either try to do too much or just smell fake. Don’t get me wrong, I love the scent of Gemultikeknnadamm from CFG more than the next guy, but it’s not just coffee. Simple coffee is really hard for some reason. Fortunately, I was able to acquire Storybook Soapworks from Inna’s collection last year. Unfortunately, he passed away before I started wetshaving, so I never got to know him, but the way I hear the OGs of this community talk about him is telling of the type of person he was, and the type of community member we should all strive to be like. So today, I’m very happy to use Coffee Spoons. It’s straight up black coffee. Just like I make it for myself every day. Soaked my brush in my scuttle of black coffee for good measure.

The Affogato EdP is alright, but there’s something about it that’s off, even for the Gourmand King. Coffee is certainly the star of the show, but it takes the coffee and adds a figurative scoop of vanilla ice cream to it. On paper, it should work better than it does in reality. But for #FOF, this is really simple one. If you like coffee (and I do) today was a brilliant day, which I am ecstatic to take part in. Sure, smelling like a Starbucks all day may not be for EVERYONE, but I’m not everyone. Every December, I celebrate the 12 Days of Coffee by preparing coffee a different way, every day for 12 days in a row, culminating with a delicious whipped coffee on Christmas Morning. I often say that I enjoy coffee and caffeine is just a byproduct. And this what today gives me. Wonderful enjoyment of a wonderful gift from God – Coffee.

Challenge: Ugh… Our r/wetshaving overlords having wettuber the day after u/Enndeegee calls my Target shave lame and u/ginopino tossing grenades at me from the clouds. If this was last year, it would be Spite Shave City, taking no prisoners. But this year, I’m turning over a new leaf, biting my tongue, spreading LOVE, not Spite, and leaving the negativity for everyone else. I’m not gonna take the bait and I’m certainly not let them bring me down to their level. Still, I rise: Here’s the video.

No. I am not going to drink Old Spice. Aftershave does, in fact, have multiple carcinogens in it that should not be consumed and aftershave poisoning is a real medical thing. Sadly, alcoholics who lose access to alcohol have been known to drink aftershave in order to get their fix and it can cause extreme health issues. Given that, and the general rules about not doing stupid stuff for fake Internet shaving points, I am not going to drink Old Spice aftershave to prove to everyone that Old Spice is a beverage.

However, I do have some old spice. As in spice that has been sitting at the back of my spice cabinet for years, going through multiple moves. It is, in a literal sense, an old spice. People put spices in all sorts of beverages. In fact, many beverages are simply water flavored with spices of some sort or another. Thus if I put this old spice into water I would have an Old Spice Beverage. By logic then, Old Spice soap could be inspired by this Old Spice Beverage.

"Wait," you and the judges (always right they are) say, "In order for a beverage to be a beverage someone has to drink it." To which I say, "Hold my beverage."

On a more personal note, you may have noticed I didn't post yesterday. This is not because I didn't have some Old Spice canned goup I picked up at Walmart (they sell a head shave Old Spice cream) but because of u/onionmiasma. You see, he and I were kind of playing a fun thing on here pretending we were arguing with each other over a smush I forgot to send him - trading barbs back and forth in a light-hearted way. However, Tuesday, he kind of took it too far, claiming I was some sort of convicted criminal and sex offender because he found one on the Internet who wore Old Spice. There's jokes and there's insulting someone. It, honestly, wasn't cool at all and not in the spirit of what we were doing. I'm not one to air laundry out so I won't go into too much detail but suffice to say I was genuinely not feeling like putting on Old Spice or participating yesterday thanks to his post. Anyway, Onion is kind of an actual jerk so... yea.

I'm having a tea party on this Thirsty Thursday. First off is Thé Noir et Vanille, a lovely black tea with strawberry and jasmine in the mix. None of those scent notes really mattered though, because I made myself a cup of turmeric tea and used that to build my lather with the tea. Turns out tea is a perfectly serviceable replacement for water. Then I put a teabag in the sink and made sink tea to rinse out my razor in.

I followed it up with Earl Grey scented Chesire splash, which is less smooth and more sharp and herbal. And finally Chaotic Neutral, an ambery fragrance that is inspired by hot tea. A lovely tea party shave!

No video from me today, but I do miss CosmoBarber's antics on the sub and I would always watch his videos. Was he a better shavetuber than VW? He definitely loved Midnight Stag more so I'll let you be the judge of that.

The best way to wake up in the morning is to quietly enjoy a cup of coffee on the couch or maybe on the back porch watching the early birds get the worm! I however have no idea what that is like since I have two young ~~spawn~~ kids it’s never quiet in my house! lol Growing up neither of my parents drank coffee and even through college I only rarely enjoyed a cup on a Saturday morning. These days you better not ask too much of me before I get my hands on my cup!

Daily Challenge:: well like last year I am not making a video because I shave immedietly after showering and always shave in the nude. While NSFW material is not actually banned, the rules say I have to get Mod approval before posting and I'm afraid if I get that video prescreened then the judges will be overcome by my rustic sexiness that they will automatically declare me the winner and everyone else will lose out on competing this month.

So to get the point here I have to discribe my favorite wettuber that is not VW. To be honest I havent ever been that into watching youtube in general and thus don't have many wettubers that I follow. I have to confess something though, my favorite wettuber is >!Rex Emporium!< just for the comical value that his videos have added to my life! I mean we got multiple Discord emojis added just from his Osprey review video! >!(For legal purposes, this is a joke!<)

A bourbon smash. What's not to love. Great drink and a great soap fragrance courtesy of Will at BaM.

We're entering into our "heavy" season here in Maryland, humidity creeps up, and even when temps are moderate the atmosphere feels oppressive, I needed to be out of the house most of the day, so the lightness of Silver Mountain Water just seemed appropriate.

The MMOC continues to be my favorite safety razor. I love the elegant fliptop mechanism and the blade feel. I have a bunch of other safety razors in my collection, but this design was never topped IMO.

As for a shave video ... well, maybe next year. This year, I'll need to try to find someone with more depth of shaving knowledge, a more interesting career, and better weather reporting skills than u/VisceralWatch. Clearly, there is no equal. However, Johan Granath (Shave&Butcher) tells a dad joke better, and has an equally comfortable presence in front of a camera while shaving.

Not only is the performance and the scent on this soap/AS great, but I really like the story behind it. Frank at Ethos has always done some custom/one-off scents for good customers, and this is one that he did for a guy who was active on a couple of the shave forums (ShaveMD) that was meant to be inspired by ginger ale. Unfortunately ShaveMD passed away suddenly before getting to use it, so Frank decided to release it as a tribute soap and donate a portion of the proceeds to Ronald McDonald House. I love it when shave artisans do stuff like that, we all know that this stuff isn’t big business but it’s great when artisans still make it a priority to give back.

I don’t really follow YouTube shavers regularly nowadays, mostly it’s if I’m looking for info on a particular product is when I’ll search through if any videos are up about it. But I do tend to enjoy u/sgrdddy and Latherhog vids.

Inspired by a drink? Got it! Quite perhaps the greatest combination man has ever put forth: Mixing coffee and alcohol! And this morning is a fine morning smear some drinks on my face and pretend it’s socially acceptable. Today’s shave is brought to you by the finest beverage-inspired grooming products, because who doesn’t want their bathroom to smell like bar on the morning of Saint Patrick’s Day?

Nothing says "I need to wake up" like slathering a soap on your face that smells like the Irish breakfast of champions. The rich aroma of coffee with a splash of whiskey had me half expecting a hangover by the time I was done lathering. The only thing missing was a side of regret and bad decisions. But hey, at least my face smells like it’s ready for a productive day of pretending to work. For my splash, was Morning Glory from Apex Alchemy. No alcohol scent notes in this one – just sweetened coffee. Not a bad idea to pump the breaks on the booze scented products during the shave. This splash it definitely smells like the coffee you’d order to sober up a little from the Irish Coffee you just downed in less than 8 seconds. All without the judgmental stares from the waiter after he sees you pour something from your flask into the black coffee he just brought to you 3 mins ago… Or so I’ve heard…

Finally, we top off this boozy brunch with Sidama EdP, inspired by Ethiopian coffee. It’s the cologne for the discerning gentleman who wants to smell like he’s just stepped out of a high-end coffee shop, but still needs a little bit of rum to keep him going. The rich, earthy scent pairs perfectly with the Irish Coffee soap and Morning Glory splash, creating an #FOF olfactory experience that says, "I have refined tastes, a caffeine addiction, and quite possibly a drinking problem."

So, there you have it. My shave today is a tribute to all things drinkable. I may smell like a walking cocktail, but at least I’m one step closer to making it through the day without actually needing a drink. Cheers to that!

Challenge: As much as I’d like to show my face to the people out there, I actually better not because of the type of work I do. If a goofy video of me shaving got out, it would be great for my career. Which is weird to say, because it’s stupid, but the firm I work for has pretty strict guidelines about publicly facing internet posts. So instead, I’ll tell you who my favorite wettuber is. I actually asked this question when I was first getting going and Michael Freedberg is a great one to watch. HD Shaves is good too. Anyone but Subie Shaves – That guy is brutal to watch. I like people who aren’t over the top or fake excited, which is all too common in youtube. Freedberg and HD seem like real dudes who are there, talking to a friend. And I like that.

It was raining today which was perfect for this cardamom chai, drink based scent. I love cardamom and have used it a lot: cardamom shortbread cookies, cardamom brewed into my coffee, cardamom spiced green soba noodles (happy to dm a recipe), cardamom dental floss. It’s spicy, yet slightly citrusy in the same way that teas or coffee can be. I get that on top while the interplay with cinnamon and clove round this out for a warming journey. Maybe I imagine it, but I think I detect a slight milky note too. This scent evokes the memories I have sitting near a fireplace, quietly. Reading a book or reflecting, maybe just watching the rain come down like today. A blanket keeping me warm and my pup by my side relaxing. It’s for when you just need to take a break from the world and go into that calming space.

Thirsty Thursday!

I am a gin and tonic drinker. Gin has been my drink of choice for years, so for me Stirling G&T was a no brainer for today. I really love this soap and aftershave. There really is something to this soap, the juniper is there by the lime, the lime is where it’s at for me.

The shave with the Sabre no matter the soap is just automatic now. There is no thinking just a great shave. Which brings me to today’s daily challenge. Favorite wetTuber. I’m not gonna lie, it’s GeoFatboy. He just cracks me up and there’s no muss no fuss. I’ve never seen anyone lather and shave as fast as him, and when I use the Sabre that’s the closest I come to his speed. It always makes me chuckle when he “Clears the runways and swipes the neck”. He seems like he’s just a cool dude.

I don’t think I need to justify soap, or splash. The Frag, well I chose it for the name, it fits the theme.

Use of Theme: Thirsty Thursday

After yesterday’s excitement, and after drawing the ire of Mrs_D for flinging lather all around the bathroom–apparently there was more that I missed than wiped up, I could sure use a drink.

We’ll start with a Piña Colada. If there were any benefit from being a nineteenth-century Puerto Rican pirate, it would certainly be getting to drink Piña Coladas all day long. And maybe getting caught in the rain, depending on who your first mate was.

I don’t know if Abbate or La Mantia had a drink in mind when they came up with Don José, but it works. Aside from smelling bit medicinal, maybe it’s the note of clove, it seems very drinkable. So, drink, we shall.

Let’s head south down the end of a dirt road to our favorite ramshackle juke joint, Saint Julep. I’ve never worn anything with Southern Magnolia, so that’s probably why it seems more feminine of a scent, but the mint and bourbon carry some weight to try and even things out. Three hours in and it is light and sweet smelling. Not offensive at all.

So, let’s have that drink. Straight from Beachbum Barry’s Potions of the Caribbean via the Cocktail Party app, here is:

Crucian Banana Squash

• 4 oz. Light Rum
• 1 oz. fresh lime juice
• 2 whole bananas, very ripe with brown spots on skin
• 1 cup crushed ice.

Step one:

Peel and slice bananas as thinly as you can, then place in a shallow bowl. Pour rum over banana slices. Cover bowl and let bananas soak in rum for four hours in your fridge.

Step two:

After the 4 hours have elapsed, pour contents of bowl into a blender. Add lime juice and crushed ice. Blend until smooth, around 30 seconds. Pour unstrained into Old Fashioned glasses. Serves 2.

Best consumed with a straw.

The first time is either the best or the worst, but this is far from my first. I still don’t think I can commit to being a wet tuber, no matter what u/VisceralWatch says. You know what's fun? No not that.... What's really fun is you being almost done with your LG post, and your PC just dies.... Yup, fun times indeed. But even that cannot stop me!

Daily Shave:

For today's shave I chose this full trifecta of Sutton Distilled. As suggested by the name it is inspired by a distillery and it is a whiskey forward scent. I rarely try soaps that make me buy a full trifecta, but this was one of them! And the EdP is the creme de la creme. Really it's super good! I'm currently debating if I should leave the soap and splash in my den, but the EdP will never leave it, FOR SURE!

I see people here going nuts about Coffee, maaaan get the hell out of here and be original, coffee is overrated, nothing better than a good spirit. You ever heard of 20 year old coffee? No? You know why? Cause whiskey is better, whiskey is mature, it is for the sophisticated, you don't need a grinder, you don't need a roast, just a glass and good company!

I want to talk about a technique that is not widely spread, but I tell you it's damn good and effective! You guys know that when using an adjustable razor, people usually dial down the numbers when continuing to the next pass. Yes? Well I'm here to preach about the DIAL UP method. Let's say you do WTG on 3, then XTG on 5 and ATG on 7. You might say "But MrTangerinesky, the Progress doesn't go to 7!". Yes it doesn't, it goes to 13, that razor can be turned twice over and some, and the head is super stable and the tolerances are super tight!

The idea behind this is that you use mild settings to get the better part of the stubble or beard off and then when the passes that count for depth come you increase the gap so that you can get a very good BBS while your skin hasn't been stressed by large gaps in the previous passes!

I had a fuckin video made but im on a 24 hour shift at work (duty, yay military service) and cell service is horrid in military buildings so. I'm kind of stuck without for now. I went with the Scotch Whiskey scent of AA Shaving's Moonlight. Not only is it on theme but it is legitimately one of my favorite soaps. The Aftershave is really nice. It's light and doesn't burn the living hell out of you when you use it. This GEM blade is really getting some use, I'm gonna see if I can use it all month at this point, until I have to use a different razor for a challenge or something.

The new Baron I turned the other day was super worth the wait of using extra resin from previous pours (I don't waste anything) to turn. It ended up looking insane! Gave me some ideas for future pours actually. Hopefully tomorrow when I get out of here I can actually upload the video, and no. There's no feet this time. Sorry!

OP gets wrecked by bad cellphone service and the military's lack of support for our mission critical shaving competition. A future classic video is lost to the sands of time.

Thirsty Thursday:

I was kind of kicking myself for already using the Remote Learning splash this month. Drink and other gourmand scents make up a decent portion of my software. Really the choice was which one to go with today. I chose Wholly Kaw - Iced Tea. I could have also used this for freeze your face day too. Staying on theme, I went with Nordost which is a fantastic orange scent. I followed it up with Summer Break Soaps ode to Mtn Dew (and Doritos) - Remote Learning. All three fit for the theme today.

WetTubing Appreciation Day:

I make my WetTubing debut today via Imgur. Last year my video kept failing to upload. This year I kept it shorter by time lapsing from my lathering in my blue bowl through 2 passes. It didn’t quite work the way I wanted it to, but it’s my first try of something like this. I was trying to time my movements so it could look almost like the shaving cream was disappearing. I had read that the iPhone time lapse was once every 6 seconds, so I was using that to set a pace. Obviously I think what I read was wrong. Still the video came in at 21 seconds for what was about 5-10 minutes. If I try it again I’ll get a time lapse app that maybe has a better signal and adjustments for when each frame is done. Or just string individual shots together.

I don’t watch much WetTubing, but I definitely am going to watch some of the honing videos of u/gcgallant. My first effort at setting a bevel and honing a razor was ok, and sharpest blade I’ve ever achieved, but could have been much better.

Feet of Fragrance:

As mentioned I had many ways to go. After some juggling of my soaps for this month, I decided on WK - Iced Tea. It is a fairly sweet scent and more a sweet tea than the unsweetened that I drink. The resemblance is of something like a bottled Lipton flavored tea. The lemon isn’t strong and my brain goes to peach tea, but I know that it doesn’t have peach, but Yuzu, Lemon, Cucumber, Peppermint, Basil , and Black Tea. I like the scent, and while I don’t drink sweet teas. It smells familiar to when I have tried them. Nordost has its scent described as Smoky Orange. I’ve never gotten the smokiness, but the orange comes across my nose as orange soda. Probably not Fanta, but something more like Sunkist Orange. Adding more citrus will almost always harmonize with tea. Building something good here, time to derail this scent train. Many years ago, I worked in a gas station/convenience store/deli/pizza place. I used to have to go in the walking cooler and spend time restocking iced tea and Mtn Dew that all the work crews would come in and buy us out on a hot summer day. I wasn’t really a Mtn Dew drinker when I was young. We were a Coca-Cola house growing up. My mom would never buy Pepsi. A Come was always a treat for mom and my uncle when they would go into town from the family farm in Missouri. Mtn Dew though I started drinking in college, usually together a caffeine and sugar rush while cramming for exams, or finishing a paper the night before a deadline. Of course if you are drinking a Mtn Dew, it often was washing down some Doritos. This is my fourth time wearing Remote Learning. I must be going nose blind to the nacho cheese note now. I’m am getting the Dew and corn scent out of it. Maybe the cheese wears off faster and allows the more pleasant scents to express. This combo brings me back to my early 20s. College and low paid jobs with one of the few benefits - free soda. Tea wasn’t free, but I only had to pay cost for most stuff there.

Wholly Kaw Iced Tea has a lemony iced tea scent to me. Not sure why, but I also seem to smell pepper, but my nose sucks. It’s a pleasant smelling soap, although I’m not sure I’d want to smell like it all day. The shave itself was great; Wholly Kaw’s Siero base is quite good. As a side not, it never dawned on me until recently that the “Iced” part of the name also hints at the synthetic menthol that’s mixed in.

Pinaud Clubman is a classic aftershave for me, and brings back memories of the barbershop I got my hair cut at as a kid. Not sure it matches the soap, but hey, it really doesn’t matter to me.

Today’s Challenge: I’m not sure anyone will eclipse u/VisceralWatch, but I do like watching Kevy Shaves. I watched some videos of his when I first started to wet shave, and for some reason I just found them easy to watch. Maybe, it’s because he seems so happy when he’s shaving.

Theme: One coffee and two tea beverage inspired scents.

Challenge: Here it is, the content no was asking for.

One of my favorite beverages is coffee. Today’s soap is Maple Coffee from Elysian. Thanks to /u/Priusaurus for the smoosh. While there are many options for maple coffee, flavored coffee isn’t my thing. The scent has a light roast coffee note. The maple smells like a good quality amber syrup. It feels like I’m enjoying a morning brew with a stack of pancakes. This was my first time using Elysian soap. I found it easy to lather with good slickness. This won’t win awards for secondary slickness or post-shave feels, but it’s a solid soap base.

I really like the scent of Macduffs Imperial Earl Grey. It’s brighter and fruitier than any cup of earl grey I’ve ever imbibed. There’s lots of bergamot, and a tropical sweetness like papaya or guava. There’s an odor of orange oil which translates into the face feel of the toner. Following that up is a rich note of black tea. This is citrus forward enough to feel fitting for summer. This splash feels like it contains lots of skin food. People averse to oily post-shave may not like it.

Ineke’s Jaipur Chai is an artfully composed fragrance. There’s a delicate note of black tea. Freshly sprayed I get a big note of spice that smells like patchouli, and a dry wood like cedar. It’s earthy and slightly smoky, like burnt firewood. It's elegant, and has an air of mystique. Over time, it becomes a bit musky with a slight sweetness. After a couple hours, it's mostly vanilla and clove.

• The Lather: Stirling soap needs no introduction and quite frankly I think most of us know what a great soap base it is. It lathered up beautifully and with minimal effort as one would expect, and yes it does smell like a margarita.
• The Shave: The shave was smooth and efficient. The cooling effect isn’t as pronounced as some other soaps might be, but you can definitely feel it.
• Theme and Aftershave/Frag: . Well apparently I’m the alcoholic of the group as when I read Thirsty Thursday and smells like a beverage I only thought of college days and drinking too much every Thursday night. So I decided to create todays theme around a night out on the town in college. Margaritas in the Arctic kicks us off with a Mexican food dinner (a must for us Southern Californians before drinking) and a blended margarita never fails to help cool off the heat. Next up is a nice mixed drink, Smash. Like every college student I knew the mixed drinks were the effective way to go when there is only one goal in mind and little funding to get there. Eventually the bars close and its time for the after party, or straight liquor back at the apartment. Room 237 accomplishes this with the scent of 20-year aged Single Malt which is almost what Jack Daniels smells like after you’ve been drinking all night. This wonderfully alcoholic trifecta probably made me smell a lot like the homeless guy u/Priusaurus shaved next to last Saturday.
• Challenge: Well since I share the bathroom with my wife getting ready in the morning making a video is really out for me. She’s barely hanging in there after I painted my face like a Star Child a few days ago. So alas you are going to have to read about my new favorite WetTubing star Silky Smooth. Why is he better than u/VisceralWatch you might ask? We could start with the name, I mean whose WetTuber name lets you know right up front that he’s getting BBS? The answer is clearly Silk Silkety Smooth. Then there’s the hair, Its like watching Fabio shave with his “sexy fresh hair.” Truth be told the most important aspect of the shave is the secret ingredient, Astroglide, that makes the shave “XXX rated silked out.” All in all I find his videos quite informative. I'm sorry Visceral, you just really need to step up your game and get to this level.

I had never shaved with a Gem razor before today. I have several vintage razors, but never felt inclined to try one. I did not have a modern Gem razor, so I 3D printed my own! It was manufactured today 6/6/2024! It took about an hour to print my "Triceratops". I was a little worried about how it would shave, especially never having used a Gem razor before. My fears were unfounded. It shaved surprisingly well. No cuts and only a little irritation after a 2.5 pass shave. The results were a DFS. Not to bad at all. I am glad I convinced my wife to "get the kids" a 3D printer last Christmas. I printed the razor to match my shower curtain, blue and white which had the added bonus of being able to use the rainbow hashtag. My lather from Catie's Bubbles was very nice with a good cushion. I enjoyed the Irish Coffee scent even though I am not Irish!

I was unable to film my shave, but I most enjoy WetTubing star Mark Szorady. I enjoy his positive attitude and energy. I find his shaving tips helpful. I watched him when I was first starting my wet shaving journey. Watching him now feels like visiting with a friend. I also enjoy Subie Shaves.

My personal challenge continues and I again was able to use a different blade, razor, brush and soap brand.

I held off today's shave in the hopes of having the time to make a video, but that was not in the cards.

Today, I went with a crowd favorite, 42. At first glance, you may say, "This isn't as basic as Mtn. Dew or coffee scent, " and you're right, it's not basic. The theme for this set is Douglas Adam's beloved series "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"; the scent, however is totally inspired by beverages ^and ^maybe ^a ^couple ^other ^things. One is a staple of British and polite society, tea. The other is a staple of the galaxy and Hitchhikers all across the universe, The Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. 42 was a scent that I forced to grow on me. The scent, overall, isn't my... cup of tea. After enough uses, tho, I really came enjoy it.

I like to think I have, and have had, and eclectic straight razor collection. To some folks' surprise (and maybe even my own), this Ralf Aust is my favorite. I've loved this razor ever since I first laid eyes on it. It's an incredible shaver with amazing looks. I intend to give this to my son one day.

As far wettubers and favorites, I think of my favorites is Ruds. Not because he was doing anything groundbreaking or anything, but mostly because of that unhinged ass look. That shirtless, Gomer Pyle, thousand yard stare. It really cracks me up. I'm bummed I wasn't able to make a video. I really wanted to highlight some of that. The games aren't over, though, so I still might!

Video first if inclined, because ya know. Smash that 2x button and don’t bother subscribing. Also some corrections. I said the brush was 30mm, when it is more like 60 (edit: goggle says 65mm), and I said V3A head when it is just the V3.

I realized I have quite a few beverage inspired products in my den, and some definitely match better scent wise than today’s concoctions. That said, it’s Lather Games, so we’ll make it a bit funky as they are still easily on theme. CB Irish coffee smells just like the beverage. Warm coffee notes, whiskey. It is rather sweet, with not too much booze. Remote learning is spot on for Mt Dew, like painfully accurate. Wonder if we’ll ever get a code red or Baja blast version (your hearing this u/rocketk455). Lastly, CL Agua Fresca, aptly named for the Mexican refreshing beverage that comes in various fruit flavors, is a fruit bomb. I mostly get the melon and cucumber, but some sharper pineapple lifts it up and there is undoubtedly a rich creamy base. There’s a pretty dingy fruit stand with aqua frescos across the street from my work/school where I occasionally indulge. Minor perk of an otherwise sort of sketchy neighborhood, roadside food and beverage pop ups. #FOF

As for our daily challenge, I’m not super into wetubers. However, the few I’ve watched a tad were the big names around here 5ish years ago when stumbling on this sub: u/iamsms, u/cadinsor, u/visceralwatch. I was also partial to the likes who u/sgrdddy and u/rChewbacca for shaving related content and not just shaves.

Writing this after work, I originally was going to do it right after I shaved before work but my brother needed to use the computer that we share. Shave was meh, as all one pass shaves are, not as bad as yesterday with the terrible aftershave and barbasol. I definitely don't use this Sea Ice Lime enough because it is absolutely fantastic but I've been so busy with the Lather Games that I have no time for other stuff. After work my sister, my mom, and I went to Trader Joe's but we are low on money so we had to put some stuff back, but my mom decided it would be a good time to just leave to the car without her phone so we couldn't call to see how much money was on the card and we had to decide what to put back, then my mom got mad that we put back the juice! And I was like, "well that's completely on you," but then she just got kind of mad and went to her room. But we got a lot of Mac & Cheese which is pretty good. What was I talking about again?

June 6, 2024 - At least they didn't call it sweet tea.

The soap is inspired by a drink (even if it's a lesser form of the drink, more on that shortly). The balm and frag are both also drinks, so there's our relevant linkage for the day. Now for the shave.

I've been one to malign the performance of this soap base in the past. In the past it has given me less than stellar shaves, with minimal slickness, not much cushion, and a really dry feel post shave. I don't know what the hell I did differently today, but today's lather was spectacular. Perfectly slick, tons of residual for when I stupidly go back over a spot, still not the most cushion but the slickness makes up for it. I still felt a little dried out after the shave, but nothing the balm couldn't fix. Cheshire as always was phenomenal, and I really love the smell of Saint Julep, even if it only lasts for like 2 hours.

My complaint with this soap, especially now that I apparently understand how to lather it, is actually its name. As a certified southern boy if I showed this to my neighbor and said "this is supposed to smell like iced tea" I'm pretty sure they'd die laughing. Way too much citrus, not enough sugar. The saving is grace is that it's not called Sweet Tea. If it was this scent and called Sweet Tea I think I'd have to throw hands. Gimme that good old fashioned sugar water that tastes like tea please.

For today's daily challenge I am going to pass on the video. I really need to retain at least some plausible deniability for real life me not being attached to this account in case it gets found by one of my students. So, in lieu of a video, I'm going to talk about my favorite wet-tuber, /u/mrtangerinesky . You can find his channel here. Now a lot of you might think this is a weird pick, considering his channel is entirely in Bulgarian and I do not speak Bulgarian. However, he more than makes up for that with super calm videos, a large variety of hardware and software to help me build the fomo urges, and good enough video quality that I can see what good lathers look like in soap bases I haven't tried yet. The description for Smoking Bishop reads, Smoking Bishop refers to a pleasing punch served in Victorian homes during the winter season. The heated drink would ‚smoke‚ as it was served to chilled guests. Finished it off with one of my favorite tea scents.

When I first got into wet shaving, I watched a lot of videos. Not so much anymore, but one of my favorites then and still today is u/sgrdddy . He is better than u/VisceralWatch for many reasons, but the number one reason is because of today's theme, and I'm a sucker for a shot at a few free points.

With Tea Shoppe, my sus nose ID's greens, spices, fruits and florals. I decided to lean into the spices group with my post and frag. Old Spice is about as spicy as it gets, and Pure XS is categorized as an Aromatic Spicy, so after comparing scent notes and seeing Tea Shoppe's ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, anise and vanilla notes also featured in the post and/or the frag led me to believe that they would work together. According to Mrs Worried, they did, and when she's happy I'm happy.

Daily Challenge: Today's challenge is WetTubing Appreciation Day. If we're keeping it real, today's challenge should be renamed "AdWorried Makes an Ass of Himself Day." Here's the proof that I'd a WetTubing clown!

"Is this bergamot I'm getting, Chef?" (The Menu, 2022)

Long before bergamot became a joke, I was transfixed by something in Earl Grey tea. It was only recently that I learned it's something called bergamot. Nobody eats bergamot oranges, but bergamot oils go into fragrances and drinks. You can even buy bergamot bitters on Etsy, as I did (recommended).

In today's SOTD, bergamot is represented by B&M Cheshire aftershave, which is based on Earl Grey teas. The lather, on the other hand, is from Cooper & French, is based on white tea with ginger. Terre d'Hermès Eau Givrée has to me a pronounced ginger note (not present in the standard Terre d'Hermès), which here is meant to complement the fragrance of the soap.

Today's Brush Strokes post features an ancient rhyton, or drinking vessel, said to be from 4th century CE Iran or Afghanistan. Every time I walk by this is the Smithsonian I wish I could drink out of it.

I'm actually surprised at how many beverage scented items there were to choose from today. Between coffee scents, tea scents, even a bourbon scent, today's choice was tough. I was recently turned onto milk teas and boba drinks due to some new restaurants and shops that have opened in the area. They're honestly addicting and the flavor cobinations are endless. Te Java excells at it's scent of royal milk tea with notes of tea and honey. It is very sweet and pleasant, almost like a graham cracker smell. If an aftershave for this product had been produced I'd undoubtedly use it. I followed the tea theme for the remainder of the shave. Eau de thé is incredibly refreshing and light. It consistently gets usage in my rotation. Thé Noir et Vanille is another fan favorite. The sweet strawberry and vanilla notes work beautifly on top of the black tea base.

My wettubing debut was not in the stars for today. My favorite wettuber was hands down Michael Freedberg. I purchased my first soap, Declaration Grooming Gratiot League Square, and my first brush upgrade, a Yaqi Moka Express, based off a Freedberg reviews. His tutorials are extremely informative, the reviews are thorough and genuine, and every video is full of positivity and joy.

SOAP - What is there to say!!! It’s from Ben and he is a master of making things AWESOME! There is tons of bourbon on this and I love my bourbon. If you are marry then yo’ve learned to love a good strong whiskey. You know who you are brother and Ben knock it out of the park on this one. This soap starts with bright notes of peach and cane sugar, lingers into hedione, and has a strong finish of tobacco and bourbon.

RAZOR - Why did I choose this razor? Well cause I was trying to make my Oscar contention piece of course!!! Did I know that the only other blade out there rougher than this hunk of metal maybe Death’s Scythe itself!!! Possibly!! But it did give my small cinematic Oscar winning film the visual sound effect it needed.

THE THEME- As previously mentioned I produced, directed and had the leading role in this cinematic master piece. Oh and I was also the sound director and special effects expert. This wasn’t my best lather but I wanted the audience to feel the blade slicing all those evils away!!! Was it a love story or comedic horror? You decide! For me it was art and a lot of reading how to cut videos on your phone. Damn thick sausage fingers!! Makes life so much more difficult!

Now let’s talk about my Favorite influencer! Wait did I mentioned how I tied all my scents as strong drinks! Anyways I don’t really have a favorite but my buddy u/curbside_champ sent me this video once and I laugh for hours after reading the comments. I may suck at shaving but there is always someone out there that will make me a star!!!
