    Bedtime shave, with the Canard base…..

    Turns out, duck fat isn’t just for making “artisan french fries”. It makes pretty good shave soap as well.

    I almost used Electric Sheep tonight instead. But I already cut the grass, so the citronella was lost on me.

    Merkur 23-B was one of the first DE razors that I bought after returning to wetshaving. I like the long handle and it still fits in my shaving kit for travel.

    2 passes. Alum is used always. Osma is a better product, but I drop it and break it like all the others.

    Sandalwood in Soft Hearts…

    I have practically every base B&M has produced. Latha, Soft Hearts, Excelsior, Omnibus, etc. I have tried a lot of different bases and I think that they are all pretty good, by and large.

    Who do I miss? I miss Storybook Soapworks. Great base. Siliski made a great vegan base too. I miss Bison and Icarus.

    Today’s favorite base? I’m going to say Tusk over Milksteak by just a little bit.

    I am not the biggest fan of Vetiver. This is one of the few sets I have where it’s prominently featured

    Wife and I are volunteering at a wine tasting tonight. Tomorrow’s her birthday so I’m gonna try and go with her sometime “Chaotic Neutral” approach. She like to be spontaneous, but doesn’t mind if it turns out bad.

    This was one of the earliest of the “latest” version of this razor. It is fairly mild, but is still efficient enough for every day. It is one of my travel razors too.

    One pass, against the grain. This was my “1 pass fast shave” option back in the day.

    This set was my prize from the 2020 Lather Games. It’s a great scent, and I am really enjoying the CB base, now that I have the water dialed in.

    One of the things about this hobby, is that different soaps have different tolerances for water. Same amount of water can give a perfect lather with one soap, over water another, and create a pasty one for a third.

    The razor is a nice one for the price. I nicked my upper lip because it’s more aggressive than the .45 gap might suggest. It has a lot of blade exposure as well.

    This scent and Torchwood are my favorites from APR. The soap was made by Storybook Soapworks and they closed up in 2021 as well. The brush was made by a fellow who closed up his Etsy shop a while back.

    Wicked Edge…

    I toyed with the idea of posting the grossest photo on my phone. It’s a picture of my tongue, with 3-4 stitches in it from 2018 or so.

    I managed to faint while taking a leak, then face planted on the thing. It drove my top teeth into my tongue, and broke off one of them in the process, leaving some of the tooth stuck in the tongue.

    In case you’re wondering how the hell that happened, my blood pressure meds were cut back 75% after this….

    Juneteenth….

    I almost went with Cannonball today. But Nebraska wasn’t a state yet and I didn’t want to worry about it. Sea Spiced Lime fits in nicely anyway.

    Southwestern Ohio was actually the birthplace of US Grant, although he’s more associated with Illinois and St. Louis, MO. I grew up in Ohio, and went to college in SW Ohio.

    The red tip is a classic. It’s the most aggressive of the vintage Gillettes, save the adjustable ones. But compared to a lot of more modern razors, it’s kinda mild.

    The brush is a favorite of mine. I have a B3 in it and it’s got a softer scratch now than when new.

    Summertime, and the living is easy…..

    This is one of two sets in my den that take me back to specific memories. It is the Summers of 1969-1970. No, I wasn’t at Woodstock, nor was I at Altamont, either.

    I was in 2nd and 3rd grade those days. I spent every day at the public pool, next to our apartment complex.

    This scent reminds me of when a storm would brew up, we would all have to get out of the pool. Sometimes I would get a push-up (Orange sherbert), and wait out the storm.

    The orange, the chlorine from the pool, the petrichor from the storm, are all here in all their glory.

    Autumn Theme…

    Personally, there are only two or three true “Spooky” scents. Lyssa and Hallows, plus this one.

    I really really like this scent. The base, is amazing, but the thing that I have admired the most about Southern Witchcrafts is how many of their scents are inspired by literature and films. Carpathia is another one, and of course, Valley of Ashes.

    Next year is the 100th anniversary of the release of “The Great Gatsby”. I would love to see West Egg, East Egg, and VoA available again.

    Anyway, I bought this Yates 921M a while ago. It’s #68, (yes, there’s a joke there somewhere). I have the short handle too, another top cap, and a hybrid and a High plate too. The hybrid plate is brass, and has OC on one side.

    The pod casts are great. 👍

    This set dates back to 2019, I believe. I believe it was purchased after Christmas so it was on sale. I love the Black Friday deals Rod does and he does them in June too, I think. They are the perfect travel size and are still a heck of a good value.

    This is a great scent. Grapefruit, lots of menthol.

    The Bali 171 is a copy of a Tech, and a mild one at that. I should try to remember to use this razor for #legday next year.

    The brush used to have a Badger knot in it. I put that knot another handle from Summer Break Soaps. This is the upgraded synthetic from Maggard’s.
