Decided I can’t commit to doing a straight every day this month. Too much irl shit happening that might mess me up. So, instead, I’m going to commit myself to daily headshaves. Normally I shave my head like once or twice a week. I tried to do daily headshaves last month and gave up almost immediately. This month will definitely go better.

Today and yesterday’s lathers have been some of the thinnest I’ve ever made. Still really slick, but absolutely zero volume. This brush eats soap for breakfast, can’t wait for it to start producing some fluffy stuff.

Decided to try doing two ATG passes for today’s headshave. Happy to report that even with this thin af lather I can do an ATG first pass, means later in the month when the doldrums hit I can remember that one ATG is good enough.

Tried a couple things for the first time today.

First time I’ve ever used permafrost drops in lather (I’ve only ever used them in splash before). About half way into lathering I added a drop to some lather on the brush then finished the process. Noticed the cooling without it being overbearing. Going to try two drops tomorrow.

I also tried a new shave pattern on the back of my head. I can’t really do ATG back there because it’s the one spot on my scalp that gets irritated. Tried doing XTG in a different way to see if that makes things better. I’ll report back in a future post.

Got a great lather today, in spite of the brush. It feels like I’m just willing good lathers into existence without any help from the bristles. Only really seeing any split ends in the hairs around the outside of the knot, still almost none through the middle.

Rare mid-day shave today. Open House at work so I actually need to look clean shaven so parents don’t judge me. This will help with the transition to morning shaves with classes starting Wednesday as well.

Ladies and gentleman we finally have some fucking volume! Truly great lather today. Super slick, tons of volume for cushion. Was able to do 3 passes plus touch ups and still have what you see in that image left over with no reloading at all. Huge thanks to Enndeegee and Sms for the tutorial on loading unbroken boars. I was legitimately hating this brush and now I’m excited for AA again.

This was the best headshave I’ve had in recent memory. BBS (for the possible spots) with two passes (wtg and atg) and no touch ups. Now that I’ve finally figured out loading and lather with this brush the next goal is trying to get BBS on the back of my neck without irritation.

I’m 95% sure that Austere August is only in August because of the alliteration, but it sure is perfectly situated in the calendar to be extra challenging for me.

This is such a high stress month for me that it’s so easy to miss a post (already did this, thank God for judges being understanding) or get disillusioned by daily rituals and skip a day (still haven’t done this one and don’t plan on it). I’m curious if there’s a particular, recurring month in anybody’s calendar that would make them not want to bother with a shaving contest. August is probably my 2nd hardest month for something like this. If it happened in October I’d never get through it.
