Well well… Here we are again for a month of shaving tomfoolery. Or should I say: On se retrouve encore avec notre gang d’imbéciles pour raser ensemble pour un concours ridicule sur reddit. Et bein! Which roughly translates to: I like snacks.

“Bonjour Later Games” reminds me of a really awful video from the 80s by a Québec comedy group called Rock et Belles Oreiles. They did a parody song called Bonjour la police. I do not suggest watching it, but it’s on YouTube if ever you dare. “Bonjour/Hi” is a pretty common greeting in this mostly French place where I live, but of course not without controversy

To keep up this French theme, I’m shaving with Martin de Candre’s Vetiver which is new to me. Have never tried their offerings, but u/purple_ombudsman was kind enough to send some over some time ago. Finally breaking it out with purpose. For someone who had already tried all types of razors (I do not have a rolls) I figured this KAI single blade disposable might just fit the bill. This disposable cartridge razor is a style that I’ve never used before. I have been holding onto this one since my Japan trip back in 2018. Happy to use it and lose it today. Shave and scent were predictably meh. Proraso splash makes it all OK though, and finally a spray of Chameleon, as that’s exactly what I feel like as an anglophone living here. Au revoir !

My choice for todays shave is Dr. Jon’s Propaganda. It’s a shame that the Dr. Is no longer, I enjoy their products. Propaganda leaves me smelling like a corinthian leather apholstery factory, and I love it!

u/VisceralWatch GEMnabled me way back when by lending me and then Ultimately selling me my (now) favorite SE razor, the ClögPrüf. Umlauts notwithstanding, this is by far my favorite GEM razor (I have many). It definitely #ButtersThatToast each time I use it, and today was no exception. A smooth clean shave. The razor seems to get shinier after each use – probably because I sweat brasso, but that’s a story for another time.

I must say that almond scents are among my least favorite. So today I am happy to finish off a sample of Boellis that u/J33pGuy13 sent me some time ago. Just a nonchalant, run of the mill Monday shave here. Dammusi is something special so I am happy to use anytime, and it negates the almond meh nicely.

Winning Lather Games is no small feat, so props to u/RedMosquitoMM for accomplishing that last year and thereby adding his name to an elite list of proud, famous, glorious shave masters. More than that he takes excellent SOTD photos which I enjoy very much. My photo is a tribute to his photos in a modern contemporary art way. How meta. The lone open mini-tub represents the singularity by which us shavers find the drive, devotion and prowess to shave and then post about it.

April showers bring May flowers, sure. But what about July where it’s been raining pretty much non-stop here? I guess todays theme is perfectly appropriate then.

1 scoop of soap (42 mg), add to bowl and whip up lather for 1 minute, 42 seconds, with 12 drops of water added. Apply lather from bowl to face at the rate of 1 swipe stroke per 21 seconds until there was a healthy layer of foam on the head – the actual density being based on my ρ = m/V calculation, which was 42. Shaved in 2 passes at an exact angle of 42 degrees in short, straight swipes from top to bottom. The density of the AC pro blade was surely also 42, as is the atomic weight of a petrichor molecule. Science is neat!

It’s been a long time since I’ve used canned goop. To be honest it is quite easy to work with. Inferior to tubs of artisan soap, to be sure. The LG rules are the rules though, right? Overall it was a decent shave, especially with the Blackbird Ti which is just a fantastic razor. I felt a bit dumb using a nice badger brush to lather canned foam (gel) but it worked alright. The addition of Orbit AS took things to new heights (see what I just did there)?

I’m not sure where this Shoppers Spotify playlist comes from, but it sure has all the hits. Fun fact: in Québec it’s not called Shoppers Drug Mart, it’s called Pharmaprix just because Québec.

If I had to make my own scent – oakmoss, vetiver and cannabis essences are what I would put together to have a dark, resinous, dank, green smelling wonder. All of the soaps with cannabis of some kind in them that I have smelled so far just don’t seem to get it right, at least not what it should be in my mind. Terpenes are quite fascinating, and might translate to very interesting scent profiles. I’m not an alchemist soaper though, so who knows? And as emo-raymoonie might say: who cares, right?!

My olfactory overdose for today, brought to you by Executive Man. Pretty widely liked I think, and boy am I a cologne wafting stank bomb right now. I really enjoy the pineapple notes in this one.

Stacking is hard, especially when the caps of the frag and aftershave are slightly convex. Did what I could and for what it’s worth, the AS was not touching the rest, just didn’t know where else to put it and could definitely not stack it. Voila.

My other big hobby is Motorcycling. I have been doing that for a very large part of my life so am in a relatively calm, stable period right now – investment-wise, but do want a new motorcycle. I used to be all into the online forums to learn, nerd out and meet folks to ride with but it has been quite a while now that I haven’t been. As life progresses I find I have less and less riding time and opportunities, but I still love it. This hobby has it’s unique jargon for sure, stuff like: dragging a knee, high side, low side, squid (for N00b). I could go on, but won’t – I’ll head out for a ride instead. None other like David Bowie. Wholly Kaw Rebel is clearly a tribute to that look and era. Aladdin Sane was released in 1973 yet is still very iconic today. So much so that there is a shave soap label that pays tribute to it. Rebelle is dank if not a little tallow funky but always makes for a lovely shave. I actually prefer the aftershave splash to the soap. No funk, just Oud, Leather, Tobacco, Sandalwood and Vetiver that come together in a beautiful mix. Definitely one of those soaps that attracted me based on it’s tub art more than anything else. EldrormR’s MM24 is always a great implement for a close, smooth shave. Glad I have one in my den! Good shave to start the week.

HSSC Kootenay Blue is a soap in my den that gets next to no use, so it’s nice to crack it out today. The bright, blue skies, plentiful lakes, awe inspiring mountain surroundings and fresh, clean air make up this nice aquatic leaning scent. And they’re from British Columbia, my birth province. Who cares?!

Tried to make my photo all color coordinated and stuff, hope you like it. Ironically it has been raining here for a week, which is good for the forest fires, but bad for the mood. Feels bleh. Oh well, just shave through it is what I say.

Proraso is fluffy. And white. It comes in a weird container so that I would normally bowl lather. This is the first time I tried lathering from the (weird) tub. Worked fine but made a huge mess. Proraso is also slick. Must be that coconut oil.

My photo today tried to capture the white, clean feel of it all. I must say that Zoologist Panda pairs beautifully with Proraso green splash. I only break it out from time to time, but the Tatara Masamune razor is fantastic. Mine actually has a Nodachi plate, which makes it even better. Today is gonna be a good day.

Today started well. At my girlfriend’s place with a dead battery on my motorcycle. Had to Uber back home annoyed as hell. Now rainstrorming so will just leave it for today. Then an incense bomb shave to calm me down, which it actually did. Therapeutic shaving, right there folks.

My photo today kind of smells like Rhinoceros. Deep woody resin incense. It will be a pretty fragrant day in the home office. In sweatpants and a t-shirt. But oh so worth it.

I started with an ATG pass. This is what I do when I shave my head. I don’t normally do this while shaving my face. Glad the Era is mild, even using the 5 plate. As a result my second pass (WTG) almost seemed unnecessary. Besides, I’m only cutting down 1 day of growth. So not very challenging today. I did slice my chin though. Bravo. I prefer WS-23 synthetic to the menthol that B&M uses in Terror. I can’t even find what it’s listed as on their label. Strange. Splash on that good good Kryptonite and all is even colder, but better.

Elephant is one of my favorite scents in wet shaving. Something about it just does it for me. I spent some time and too much $ finding this tub, but very glad that it’s part of my den. Once my EdP sample is done I just might have to bite the bullet and get a full bottle of the frag. I am so happy that Chiseled Face collaborated with Zoologist to make this happen. It was before my discovery of this community, but oh so glad I could track one down.

I do not use alum. I have tried it but really see no point. I’ve figured out how to shave properly so do not need a block of salt to gauge where I might have shaved too close, or knicked myself and so on. Alum spelled backwards is mula, as in dineros, as in why waste you money on a block of face salt when you can just buy more soap and hoard it like I do?

Autumn ash actually paired nicely with Desairology. Adding a spray of GraveFruit II makes it perfect for today’s mood and a full Southern Witchcrafts shave. Too dark?

Through it all so far this month u/OnionMiasma has been an uplifting voice who was even kind enough to make me a meme and send over a horrendous smush twice for me to complete my 30 unique soap brands quest. Needed a head shave today. Tusk is always in order for that. Santa Noir checks all the boxes for today’s theme, so why not dickhole it? I like matchy-matchy if that’s not already apparent. For my first pass I treaded very carefully with my left hand (non-dominant) and actually succeeded without harming myself, or the cat. This vector is so damn efficient that if it were not for touch-ups and my fastidiousness to get a perfect head shave I could have maybe left it at one pass with the wrong hand. Who am I kidding? Definitely needed to finish things off right.

This is the cheapest shave that I could put together today. I bought this splash as part of a large lot of crap to get me started way back when, but only used it for the first time today. Wilkinson sword tub and brush were also from the very beginning of my journey when I knew not of anything proper. Boy have I come a long way. MMOC can be found really cheap on ebay and a PTFE GEM blade can last and last, so another economical solution. This one is already on shave 15. Overall it was a really shitty shave, but got the job done. Why is the aftershave blue? The world may never know…

I don’t think that anyone has used this soap yet so far. I love the base but the scent on this one is quite weak. That’s OK though, Cerberus splash and Santal Auster frag to the rescue.

I wish I had time to pay more attention to the games this year, but alas. I see some strong contenders even from the small tastes that I’ve taken of reading the daily posts and listening to the podcasts. I’ve tried my best to at least provide a decent SOTD photo for y’all, but as to the winner? I am excited to find that out myself in due course, so no predictions here. Hat’s off to those who gave it their all, that’s for sure. Also, I don’t do homework.

So this is it, eh? Proud that I was able to shave every day this month and use 30 different brands of soap. The rest… not my best showing, but always fun to play along.

Trade Winds is not as popular as it should be IMO. Great base from Moon Soaps and the scent is absolutely one of my favorites. Especially great for summertime. Moon Soaps are from California, my razor is also from Blackland in California. Blade was made in Japan and much brush in Italy. I am in Canada so I think that all makes sense for the last daily challenge. That’s all. Happy summer to you!
