Nõberu has turned out to be a decent soap with adequate hydration. The only problem is how much it dries out my head. Proper post shave solves that.

I’m going the spicy route for my MM24 Bonus Shave.^© Hoffman’s is pretty darn good. I can see why u/cowzilla3 rated it so high. Too bad Avon never produced soap to go along with their aftershaves. I guess they were too busy with bottle designs to worry about it. This bottle of Blend 7, which I mistakenly thought was Spicy, does have some spiciness and is a nice complement to Burn the Ships. Fragrantica lists the notes for Blend 7, launched in 1973, thusly:

Top note is Anise; middle notes are Sandalwood, Patchouli, Jasmine, Floral Notes and Smoke; base notes are Oakmoss and Tonka Bean.

50 years in a plastic bottle probably did this aftershave a disservice, as the scent strength was likely diminished. I do have a just-as-old, glass-bottled Avon Thai Winds that has a more robust character.

My journey into wet shaving was an interesting one. When I started, I was on a tighter budget and I was using Cremo and a brush to pretend. The tub of Proraso Red I soon bought wasn’t cutting it either. Lo and behold, this company started showing up in my Facebook feed and my initial skepticism eventually waned. Soon I had a medicine cabinet full of Stirling and so began my foray into artisan soaps.

Today’s shave was nothing short of fantastic. A luxury shave, if there ever was one. Some people are quick to pooh-pooh Stirling for what could be said to be a lack of innovation in artisan soap. Their base was perfected early on thanks to feedback from the community and the willingness on Rod’s part to humbly get it right. Other artisans have, in some people’s eyes, left Stirling to pick the grit out of its teeth after eating their figurative dust. Yet Stirling is consistently on the podium and they will always have a place in my den.

As for Talent Factory, I had never heard of them until the posting of the MM bracket. If they are as good as their small band of supporters claim, the prime time exposure they are getting this month should bring them up in future rankings. I love a solid underdog and will certainly be adding them to my repertoire.

I didn’t get active in the sub until after the Big Pan’ic so I missed out on the April Fool’s high jinx that was Remote Learning. Thankfully all of our special needs students were able to have in-person learning for all but that first two weeks of the 20-21 school year.

And thankfully u/rocketk455 was a ~~sucker~~ stand-up guy who , at our insistence, brought back the beloved Doritos and Mtn Dew in shave ready form for more of us to enjoy.

I’m feeling the ADD this morning, grabbing different things, but I managed to tie in the new fragrance I picked up from FragranceNet. It’s reminiscent of JPG Le Male, which came out after Cuba, and I understand Cuba Gold is a little closer to what inspired Le Male. Anyway, it’s on the lighter side of strength, but nice for what it is and every Prom King should have a big fat Cuban cigar.

I’ve only had samples of several of the NO soaps and they are all fantastic. It’s only my empty wallet that keeps me from full sets. Some day, my dear otter, we will become better friends.

Today it’s Declaration Day. Gratiot League Square is a rich and wonderful combination of scents that I appreciate more each time I use it. And the B13 is a fantastic knot to deliver the lather.

The GEM at 42 shaves is becoming quite horrible. I don’t have much irritation to speak of, likely thanks to the MM24, but it took four passes to get what I consider a good shave. If I were getting anything beside Internet points, I might keep going with this blade. We’ll see.

It’s spring in Ohio and I’m still freezing my balls off. It can’t be a middle-age thing. So let’s use a springtime fresh scent to warm things up.

I debated whether or not to take a vote on pushing this GEM blade any further beyond 44 shaves. I figured if I asked a stupid question, I’d get a stupid answer, so I’ll keep it going for awhile longer.

Here’s a late-night pro tip for all you noobs out there. Don’t buy a puck of soap at the grocery store when shopping with your spouse. It only leads to questions.

Back home and laid up with a full-blown upper respiratory infection. I tumbled out of bed at noon and dragged myself into the shower to hopefully feel better. In the process, I forgot to get a new blade, so here goes 51.

The Van Der Hagen soap is just okay, good lather and slickness, but my skin is feeling dry. I’ll power through it, though.

I’m still feeling lousy, but adulting takes precedence with getting up early to take Lil_Donette to work and run her car to get the brake job she had done last Thursday looked at and re-fixed. When a caliper with 250,000 miles on it decides to fail, there’s not many options. At least I got to sit at the shop for three hours and be unbothered.

I got home and rewarded myself with a hot shower and a fresh blade. Back to a blissful shaving experience and no more nonsense.

I must really be out of it today. Since I’ve been wet shaving, I’ve somehow acknowledged Reds Opening Day. Too much to do and think about these days. Tomorrow being what it is, I’ll make my choice accordingly.

Today I gave Crann Bethadh a second chance. I light-loaded it just to give it a test as it burned my skin the first time I tried it. I thought it was okay until I did a heavier load for pass two. Though not as bad, I felt a little zing on my skin. I’ll still give this one a pass.
