    • Post Shave: Zingari Man - Navigator
    • Fragrance. Zingari Man - Navigator

First and foremost let me point out how much music I have discovered from u/redmosquitoMM daily SOTDs throughout the last few months. I keep googling all the music he posts and adding to my playlist so thank you sir!

Today I chose captain’s choice because ALMONDS is all I smell!!! It’s crazy how much is in there (I think). I can’t smell anything else. It paired somewhat nicely with the navigator splash but that was the closest splash I own that came remotely close to it. I read today that ITALIA also has a lot of almonds so next thing on my wish list. My LG run continues.

Happy Latheurth of July everyone!! (You see what I did there! Lather+fourth) anyways this morning was a struggle to find myself a measuring device to log in my shave with Rawr. Which was amazing and thanks /curbsidechamp for the amazing gift…. Again - Seriously if it wasn’t for all the amazing help I have been getting I would be super lost. Just to name drop some of the help I have been getting: u/curbside_champ, u/tsrblke, u/EldrormR, u/ginopono, u/mitosismonkey, u/Groundbreakingrole45, yes I do park in the wetshaving handicap spot. I am honestly competing to JUST not get disqualified lol…

Here is my morning science experience!

    ABSTRACT:

Purpose: Incorrect lathering technic has lead multiple cases of weepers and nicks thus creating an overall dissatisfaction of morning wetshaving experience. This study aims to learn and improved the lathering technique and explore the methodology and its influencing factors that lead to a better shaving outcome. (Full Disclosure, I am in no way shape or form an expert and this is my full and complete opinion based on all that I have read in this forum within the past year, secondly I read a whole lot of health care research and YES they are this boring!!)

    Design and method:

Materials: Copper shaving bowl with ridges, shaving brush (synthetic), ~1 tsp shaving soap (4.5 grams average). 15ml average of H2O (40 degree Celsius). Method: Mix H2O with soap produce lather

Results: The measuring of lathering had an exact correlation with the amounts of water and soap combined. (50% Vs 65%, p=001)

Conclusion: Getting the right amount of lathering slickness and consistency is a very complicated procedure that should be explored further in order to fully comprehend the intricacies an improper mixture can develop.

    • Brush: Stirling Synthetic 24mm
    • Razor: King C. Gillette Chrome
    • Lather: Barbasol - shaving cream
    • Post Shave: Thayers - WitchHazel unscented.

Well this was an easy challenge to achieved but one of the most uncomfortable. I was literally not able to fully get the shave I wanted. One of those things where you still feel the stubble after you are done shaving!! Irritating as all hell even with multiple passes so I blame the Barbasol. I must say I have been pampered with all the artisan soaps and creams and balms and my skin is always amazing. Today is dry, and itchy and reddish even though I did not fully remove all my facial hair. Thayers helped but alas the sacrifices we make to stay competitive…lol One may ask why do I have a shaving bowl and a shaving brush in this pic! One would be asking the right question! I attempted to use the brush = FAIL#1. Attempted to use the shaving bowl = FAIL#2. Not a good morning. Facial lotion here I go.

    ROTY

Edit: Due to my FAIL shaving experience this morning I was in such a hurry to finish shaving that I did not post about what I would consider the perfect scent! To be honest my favorite scent already exist but it hasn’t being made into a shaving soap yet. Weirdly enough I am a big fan of all things squeaky clean. And there is nothing more clean than the scent of PineSol floor cleaner. Yes the one people use to clean bathrooms.

So I would mix PineSol scent, some menthol, and little bit of lemon and BAM!!! My face would smell squeaky clean all day. Oh the day this will come to fruition is so close I can smell it!!!

    • Post Shave: Grooming Dept - Laundry II splash

So a big thanks to u/mitosismonkey for my paragon razor. Today’s challenge was a doozie!!!! I took all the components of my morning shave and tried to build a sky scraper sand castle style. I got the job done (20min later) but had to explain to my wife why I was playing with the shaving stuff that early in the morning (6am). I had no good explanation aside from what is already obvious to the rest of us. Great scent and the splash lasts a long time. It literally makes you feel like you just got all your clothes out of the dryer. Superb! Ya’ll have a good one now.

    • Brush: Stirling Synthetic 24mm
    • Razor: Gillette SuperSpeed Vintage 1967
    • Lather: Wholly Kaw - New York
    • Post Shave: Barrister & Man - Leviathan Splash

So this was my first time using this soap for Fremen Friday theme. Late shave today since I was late for work this morning and didn’t have time to shave. I must say I didn’t expect to like NY but turns out to be awesome!!! The notes of coffee, cardamom, amber, vanilla, leather are just a few I can kind of detect (I think). Anyways the Coffee is balanced by the sweetness of Vanilla, and definitely something spicy in there for sure but it’s subtle. So not surprisingly I am adding this to my wish list. Leviathan splashed complemented the whole ordeal really well but it was kind of overpowering to a point I could not smell NY anymore but that’s okay! It’s a pretty good scent in itself!

As for a hobby I have come to realize I am extremely boring person. Not many hobbies if any but I do like to garden and this year things have been growing pretty well! Here are the current status if my garden. My first and only tomato so far… maybe I am not that good at gardening either.

First and foremost let me say how strong this soap scent is!! IT’S STRONG! I open my sample and the whole bathroom smells like I just lit an old tobacco pipe. Superb. What better way to complement it than WK Timm Red which is not as strong but a more mellow scent of tobacco. All good things for a Saturday morning.

    • Post Shave: Thayers - Witch Hazel w/ alcohol

So this shave was weird! I have never shaved in a kitchen before. Positives about it were plenty of room and how close to the coffee maker I was lol… Negatives were that I made a mess which earn me a trip to the dog house. Today’s quote was “ Why are you shaving in the place where we eat? Don’t be gross”. So it was a fast shave to say the least! I must say I was not a fan of the GN scent when I open the sample but after lathering my face it got better. All I could smell was tea (advertised as jasmine) but it was pretty good. Back to cleaning the kitchen. Ya’ll have a good one.

So it doesn’t get any more musical than Woodstock historical concerts. I believe the most famous to be 1969. With performers like Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joan Baez, the list goes on. The soap well….hmmm…let’s just say if I was at the concert and it was raining and I was sitting in the muddy grass then maybe?? It does have the whole outdoor concert feel I guess but I am not sure if it would make into my daily rotation.

TODAY’s ARTISTIC CHALLENGE was just that! Challenging as hell. I can’t believe how hard coloring was!! I mean I thought I would have some descent skills since I work with my hands all day but goodness. Well I tried hard. This is what I was attempting to copy and here is my final masterpiece :-). • Brush: Stirling Synthetic 24mm
    • Razor: Paragon Shaving ‘Don’ DE razor
    • Lather: Razor Emporium - Fireside
    • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Navigator

I know it sounds crazy that a soap with a smoky theme would have coconut BUT SURE DOES!!! Tons of it actually, smoky coconut and I love it. I am not sure how razor emporium did it but this is the slickest soap I ever shaved with. My paragon just glided the whole way through now to be honest I am not sure it was the lather or the new way I created the lather today! On to the daily challenge.

TODAY’s CHALLENGE was rather new to me. I have never FACE LATHER before so getting the brush motion right on my face was strange at first. I could not get any lather so I literally took a smush of the soap and spread it on my face like applying sun block then begin the brushing process again. Now I got tons of lather and it was slick and beautiful! I was, to say the least, very surprised how nice the whole experience went so I am from now on incorporating more face lathering into my routine. Ya’ll have a good one

I am not sure how this scent works with these three very distinct fragrances but it does and adding the Edt just makes it last even longer. I was skeptical at first but have grown to like it now.

TODAY’s CHALLENGE when it comes to hippy music I am a fan. Now Hippy music is a broad category, but to me Jefferson Airplane really stands out the test of time. Their song White Rabbit is as HippiDippy-ty as it comes lol… enjoy. Now where is my tambourine???

    • Brush: Stirling Synthetic 24mm
    • Razor: GEM MMOC #BRASSING
    • Lather: The Holy Black New York - Coconut Creeper
    • Post Shave: Stirling - Margaritas in the Artic

Frigid, frigid, freaking frigid. My face has frozen over and it’s awesome. Thanks goodness so I don’t feel all the cuts I did to myself more on that in a bit. This soap tricks you!! It’s all coconutty at first and smells great then the cooling effect creeps (hence the name) all up on yo face and then I can’t feel your face. Pretty frigidily cool in my opinion.

TODAY’s CHALLENGE was not fun!! BUT I DID IT!!! Lol …. I shaved the whole left side of my face ATG. Since I have started this addiction of wetshaving I have nick myself very seldom (complements of having a large fat face). But this morning shave I nick and sliced myself more than I have ever done! Weepers everywhere and lots tissue paper to manage the bloody spots. Needless to say I will stay WTG from now on. Learned my lesson. Ya’ll have a good one.

    • Razor: Gillette King C. Chrome
    • Lather: House of Mammoth - SMASH
    • Post Shave: Tayers - Witch Hazel

This is my first experience using House of Mammoth! The soap is a bit hard but boy does it lather well which is all that matters to me. Great scent as well. Wish I had more and now my list of favorites just increased. Wondering if Ben ( u/mammothben ) will work with William ever again? If so then sign me up! Wait have they already?

TODAY’s CHALLENGE: I have never used an Osma or any other alum on my face. From the research I have done from listening to all the wetshaving professors that are part of this group I just have not seen a need. I have a fat face so unless I am shaving with a GEM MMOC ( special thanks to u/ginopono) I don’t usually cut myself. But now I feel like I am missing out! Must get some.

I DON’T PUT SALT ON SKIN AFTER I SHAVE BECAUSE IT WILL DESICCATED MY SKIN. That’s a no-no on my book. I want moisture, more moisture and then some more moisture. Ya’ll have a good one.

Lots of undertones of pumpkin, dirt, smoke and so fourth. Lather was of good quality as well considering it is vegan!

TODAY’s CHALLENGE: This is my first time using the sink to rinse my razor. I usually just let the hot water pass over it. Can’t say the water stayed hot very long but I was surprised to see how much stubble I got. • Razor: Paragon - Shaving ‘Don’ DE razor
    • Lather: Truefitt & Hill - 1805 shaving cream
    • Post Shave: Tayers - Witch Hazel

So shaving with a cream is a change of pace for me. It’s supposed to be soft I assumed but my sample was super hard (thanks for the sample u/curbside_champ no hard feelings just love ). So either the sample got harden by sitting in an UPS truck in Phoenix (record high temps) or I don’t know! And the daily challenge didn’t help my lather either. In fact the scent was okay but I don’t know if it was my sock or the soap :-) The true winners of today’s challenge before I go in more detail!

TODAY’s CHALLENGE: WTF??? I tried a thick sock and couldn’t imitate the guy on the video. So my second sock attempt was thinner athletic sock which worked better but not much. I got enough lather for one pass. I must work on my Sock Lathering Technique. Is that something u/merikus may further develop and thus take us through the next philosophical paradigm shift of not GUTL but GUTSL??? (Grand Unified Technique of Sock Lathering)

Good old TOBS to get my mood elevated again. I have been abusing my face all week and today is like taking a breath of fresh air. Such a great scent! It’s blackcurrant, patchouli, and some vanilla, maybe pepper and more. It’s a dupe of Creed Aventus and now I know why it’s popular. My navigator splash was a somewhat close match but didn’t stand the trials of time. After a couple hours the scent disappeared.

TODAY’s CHALLENGE: Was interesting to say the least. Used 1/3 of the water I usually use and the lather was crazy pasty. Although very slick it felt more like it was pulling moisture out of my skin than the usual hydration feel. Maybe that’s what putting salt in your face feels like!! Ya’ll have a good one.

TODAY’s CHALLENGE: I have never shaved my legs by choice before. I got the left leg shaved because of a knee surgery many moons ago due to excessive amounts of kicking (Thai kickboxing will do that to you). Which left the right leg to be the obvious choice! I must say all that hair made me slightly nervous so I consulted the expert (my wife) which after a long explanation got on board. She recommended I trim it down then shave which is what I did and took no time and had only one weeper. I must say it feels pretty nice and if it wasn’t for the time commitment I could get used to this!!!

Finally today has arrived!! I love Seaforth BlackWatch scent. This is a match made in heaven by Shawn Maher of Chatillon Lux and Maher Olfactive. An amalgam of bergamot, plum, leather notes all adds to this unique and long lasting retro scent. Oh I can only imagine what luxury in the 1950s would be like! Well maybe not…. Still this is the only scent in my small Den that is tolerated at work and at home.

TODAY’s CHALLENGE: My lathering technique is not 100% yet but getting there. I am a fan of using a little bit of the splash when bowl lathering. Read that somewhere on this sub but can’t remember who said it so sorry for not giving credit where credit is due. That being said I think it got a pretty good amount of fluffyness (which I believe is the official measuring term!) I have to realized that not every base is created equal. So this is my best attempt using Seaforth Highland base. Although not a lot of froth it’s crazy slick PIC which makes all the difference to me. Ya’ll have a good one.

What’s like shaving using margaritas in the artic in the morning after an intense workout? I just like the name, drinking a margarita on a hot day by the beach, absolutely awesome. There is lime, salt, sweet and sour, it’s all there.

TODAY’s CHALLENGE: I want to say a special thanks to u/Curbside_champ ! He was the person who introduced me to wetshaving by getting me my first tub of Stirling MargArtic and a stirling brush. I was very apprehensive about the change and the fear of using a DE razor terrified me. But after overcoming my trepidations he then introduced me to r/wetshaving last year and my life changed - for the best! I literally dove into this rabbit hole and never looked back and made tons of friends along the way. Here are some names that I now consider mentors in my journey to improve my skills.

    • Post Shave: MacDuff’s - Explorer Series Christmas Tree Splash

What’s better than PineSol? Pine Tree! Particularly Christmas trees. Makes the whole house smells fresh and clean. I got this soap for my B-Day couple months ago and been waiting till today to try it out and I am elated! I may shave my legs again just so I can lather this scent all over. PICTure.

TODAY’s CHALLENGE: Holy baby Jesus! This was the hardest thing I have done in a while. I pride myself in being able to use both of my hands for everything but I was wrong! The longest shave of my life! I got through it but took me 35 min!!!!! I mean I was late to work in trying to finish shaving with my left hand. My eyes were red in the exertion of having to concentrate so much - so pathetic. I got through but my face is all beat up again. Nick and weepers here and there. And for the first time in my shaving experience I actually thought maybe an alum block could come handy in these type of situations. Food for thought.

    JULY 26, 2023

    • Brush: Stirling Synthetic 24mm
    • Razor: Gillete King C. Chrome
    • Lather: Australian Private Reserve - Carnivale
    • Post Shave: Zingari Man - Gent splash

Australian Private Reserve hasn’t been around for a while so I am taking advantage of this fact in my post today. Carnivale is such a unique soap! There is some fruityness, some warmth, some spice all mesh together in the right amounts. The scent is not strong and does not last but it’s pleasant and comfy. Gent splash covered most of it but it was amicable. This is all I had time for before work so go ahead and SCRUB me….lol…

DAILY CHALLENGE: I have a small collection so far. Still growing but I am running out of room so I have most of my soaps HERE. Few others are spread out either at work or gym bag. Nothing to brag about but hey I haven’t done it for very long! I know weak excuse….

    JULY 27, 2023

    • Brush: Stirling Synthetic 24mm
    • Razor: Gillete King C. Chrome
    • Lather: Summer Break Soaps - Homecoming
    • Post Shave: Thayers - Witch Hazel w/ alcohol

This is my first time trying Summer Break Soaps and I am hooked. I feel much better now in signing up for Doritos & Mtn Dew combo. Today all I can smell in the lather is lavender. There is a little bit of vetiver that caught my nose but I couldn’t decipher anything else aside from lavender.

DAILY CHALLENGE: What a pleasant morning shave surprisingly. It is crazy hot in my part of the country so the air was crisp the sun was out and the heat was high. To my surprise as soon as I started to shave the sprinklers for my backyard lawn kicked in and I got this refreshing mist the whole time. Just as relaxing as it could have been. Did I mention I suck at taking pictures. This is the best I could do!

    JULY 28, 2023

    • Brush: Stirling Synthetic 24mm ($10)
    • Razor: Shaving Revolution - Long Handle DE butterfly ($16.88)
    • Lather: Harry’s - Shaving Gel ($6 for 4oz)
    • Post Shave: CeraVe - daily moisturizing Lotion ($10 for 12 oz)

Today sucked!!! Save myself some Mulaa but was not comfortable throughout the day. What can I say about Harry’s gel….. aside from the price not much else to say. I tried using my brush with it = epic failure! Didn’t smell like anything and the lotion didn’t help. One pass and I had enough. Maybe tomorrow’s shave will bring me joy? One can only hope!!!

DAILY CHALLENGE: So HERE is the breakdown of my morning shave savings!!! It’s actually one of my first sets that I got when I started wetshaving. Oh the memories…. Yeah don’t miss it. Total for all including lotion = $42.88!!! That’s a cheap deal for hardware. Ya’ll have a good night!

    JULY 29, 2023

    • Brush: Stirling Synthetic 24mm
    • Razor: Gillette - King C. Chrome
    • Lather: Castle Forbes - Cedarwood & Sandalwood Shaving Cream
    • Post Shave: Captains Choice - Sandalwood Splash

Why is Castle Forbes so expensive? Is it the amount of time this company has survive the ages! Is it the scent flowing that has captivated a mass audience? Is it the ingredients they use? I am still in dismay because I could smell the cedar and all but it was not anything special! I would argue HoM, Stirling, summer break had more memorable of lasting scents. Was my sample bad? Possibly either way maybe I was expecting more. Am I turning into a soap snob??

DAILY CHALLENGE: Well I feel that I am not qualified enough to give a true response for todays challenge. I may be bias and to be honest I am not even sure what all the parameters really are. Case in point I am still learning the terminology and have to search words here and there to understand what some of the posts mean. So here is my utterly and completely bias opinion. I would argue that u/priusaurus is at the head of the pack but u/onionmiasma could be a close second or maybe u/redmosquito. For ROTY is either u/curbside_champ or u/tsrblke . Ya’ll have a good weekend.

    JULY 30, 2023

    • Brush: Parker - CHST Silver Tip Badger (India)
    • Razor: BAILI - classic 3-piece DE razor (China) #JETSETTER
    • Blade: Gillette - Silver Blue (Russia)
    • Lather: LOS JABONES DE JOSERRA - Good Company (Spain)
    • Post Shave: Tallow + Steel - Cognac Splash (Canada)

I liked the soap, a lot cognac on it. I haven’t tried this brand before so it was exciting! The razor is super mild and just slipped around my face. Surprising for the price.

DAILY CHALLENGE: Well I placed all the countries of origin in the description. This was tricky because not all manufacturers state their country of manufacturing.

A super thanks to the judges and all organizers that put time and effort to make this competition come together as well as it did. Thank you to all that have helped me survive this month and looking forward to AA.
