AA day 2: I accidentally scooped way too much soap into my bowl. Surprisingly, my synth brush took it all in. I kept adding water until I started to get big bubbles, and ended up with a ton of super creamy and luxurious lather. There was probably enough for 4 passes.
Lots of feedback from the alum, especially on my neck. I might have been using too much pressure as a result of having such a rich lather.
Yesterday, I was questioning my decision to use HoM Hygge for a whole month. Off the puck Hygge seems medicinal, and somewhat unfamiliar. But as I was working with this morning’s lather explosion it hit me. This is not the scent of a chain barber shop with vaguely masculine decor and 15 televisions tuned to every cable sports channel. This is the barber shop your grandfather took your dad to, the one your father took you to, the one you took your son to. It’s got a creaky door with a little bell on a string that rings as you open it. The linoleum floor has been mopped with pine-sol every night for forty years. The ozone of the mystery blue liquid is in the air. Pictures of the barber’s kids and grandkids are taped to a corner of the mirror, and a framed picture of his wife next is to the cash register. For decades, every haircut was finished with a little tonic and a well powdered brush, and every shave was finished with a quick spash of the same aftershave. These marvelous scents are familiar and welcome, like a visit from a treasured friend. They linger in the leather of the big chair and in the barber’s coat. When you’re done that fresh, comfortable, clean melange follows you out the door and sets the mood for whatever comes next.
