    Frugal Friday - Lather Games - 6.28.24

Alright, the bar is low today, so here's my lather games debut.

    • Brush: Edwin Jagger Badger 21mm
    • Razor: "Utiopia Care" shavette
    • Blade: Derby Professional SE
    • Lather: Edwin Jagger Sandalwood (?)
    • Post: PAA Aqua D/G sample & (necessary) stypic pencil

Got this Edwin Jagger kit like 12 years ago from my college roommate. It was an awesome gift, but I didn't really pick it up and start using it until just a few months ago.

The soap has been in the dish for 12 years. My friend had told me to "melt it" into the dish by keeping it wet after a shave and pressing it into the dish. I think this "melting" technique, and time, have caused it to not be very smooth, because this was a rough shave.

The shavette and 100 pack of Derbys were like $5 on eBay a decade ago.

Happy I found this community. You guys are super helpful and entertaining. Looking forward to my "frugal" being much further away from my daily. 💸

Shave rating: 4/10. On to better days.

    LG - 6.30.2025 - Bon Voyage

    • Pre: Proraso Rinftescante Pre-Shave (Italy)
    • Brush: Omega 66 Boar 24 mm (Italy)
    • Razor: Merkur 23C (Germany)
    • Blade: RK Stainless (India)
    • Lather: Proraso Green Tube (Italy)

    • Post: Alt Innsbruck Aftershave/Cologne (Austria)

I live in the USA 🇺🇲

Got a mail call just in time to hop in on my 2nd Lather Games post before the break.

It was my first time using a boar brush and it was a nice experience. Felt like it made more sense about how much water to add than with badger. I ended up with just the right amount of a slick, refreshing Proraso lather.

Also my first time using these RK Stainless blades, I read they're a love it or hate it blade. I enjoyed them. My (novice) take is that they're a more aggressive, or maybe bigger, blade. Paired with the mildness of my 23C, it made for a nice close shave.

On to the Alt Innsbruck by 66-60. This is an instant favorite. I bought it halfway blind, based only off a dupe I sampled (PAA Al Fin). Its beauty is in its simplicity - classic, floral, light, present but gentle. I would never have chosen a fragrance like it in my 20's, partying and chasing women, but as a dad headed to church on Sunday morning, it is sound.

    Shave Score: 8.5/10
