First LG. First time using an adjustable razor- which I’m grateful came just in time. TY u/angleamazing ! Very smooth on low setting (leg shave), will play around with the adjustments more. Looking forward to using it more as it is much different than my daily driver (Henson mild).

Also first time using SBS which has been patiently sitting in my cabinet waiting for the start of LG. “A tropical day at the pool.” I definitely get the pineapple, citrus vibe and brief cooling affect. The lather is slick and performs well. Will def come back out after LG! #ROTY

Lunchtime shave! This challenge gave me trouble which could have been avoided with proper planning. After realizing I did not own non beef-tallow soaps I had 1 hour to get to the specialty shave shop before it closed on Saturday. I was ready to purchase Chicago Grooming’s Duck fat soap. Regrettably I did not make it in time and they are closed on Sunday. I frantically searched for other retailers, but there was nothing. How is that possible I thought to myself. u/OnionMiasma had answered my cry for help and generously offered a smush and even more incredible is local! Was it the notoriously horrible traffic that kept me away? The bad weather? Self sabotage? I’ll never know. I had to place an emergency order. Not ideal, but sometimes you gotta scramble and finally got my hands on the golden goose/mutton today. MWF was lightly scented , and very thirsty. Why I didn’t take up onion’s generous offer has me questioning my life choices. It could have been so easy. As for osma, sadly I have never used the brand. I did look at the fun alum matchsticks, but couldn’t justify them at the time. My alum is Proraso , but I prefer the Proraso gel. I don’t really use alum anymore, though it was nice when I was first learning. My daily driver Henson is low risk.

I’m bummed such an incredible scent is discontinued. Of course the base is phenomenal, but the scent of B&Ms Lavender is unlike anything else. It’s complex and forward. A more masculine lavender , but approachable and enticing. This is one I just open the lid to inhale at random times. There’s very few I get the urge to do that with. As for the Lady Gillette, it is a smooth, easy shave. It reminds me of the Henson and is a joy to use.

Base wars: I’m too new to miss any no longer in production. My favorite- I really really love several so it’s hard to pick just one, but I’m going to go with Catie’s Bubbles luxury shaving soap base.

One of my fav. hobbies is gardening. This is lavender I grew from seed last year which has nicely spread a bit. If anyone has grown lavender from seed knows, it is a PIA to germinate, so I’m happy to see it thriving!

This soap is great, this company is great- what’s not to love? I love Maggards so much- they have the fastest delivery that I’ve experienced and are very prompt with any questions I’ve had. Is there a way to make a wishlist on the site? I tend to add items to my cart, though if things are limited and the item is purchased by another customer it disappears from my cart & of course I can’t remember what is missing. A light, powdery, lime forward barbershop scent. I love it and as an 80s kid, it does remind me of that awesome decade - until someone puts out a Depeche Mode inspired scent at least. Neon Sun is Miami Vice cool-it’s a beautiful, summer scent. NO provides top shelf lathers, and this does not disappoint. The Balm is equally fantastic.

I have bought a bunch of fragrance samples from micro perfumes and lucky scent which is a nice way to explore a fragrance without committing to a full bottle. I enjoy having multiple options so the sample sizes are perfect for me. If I finish the sample, I know it’s a keeper.

SOTD I am green with envy over the wetshaving exclusive brush (green) that I’ve seen in several photos today. Is it available anywhere? It’s hard as a F leg shaver to justify a lot of hardware- though I have at least 4 (razors/brushes, etc.) which I thought was more than enough until I followed you enablers. 😂 Also, this theme had me going down the rabbit hole of searching for a pink brush. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a pink brush? I don’t know why some brushes are $400, but they are beauts. 🤩 I even looked at how to mold (?) my own on YouTube . Alas I did not succeed in acquiring a pink brush (the color pink of MDC!). It could have been color adjacent, but once I have something in my brain it’s hard to let go. I did find wine colored ones, a pink makeup brush on eBay, etc. but that’s not what I had in mind.

For today’s Spring scent I used my favorite Rose scent, MDC Rose, followed by GFT Coral skin food which pairs nicely and the smell of both is lovely.

As for Yates, I love the shaving bowl- I have the small orange one which makes quick lather of samples in particular.

I love Catie’s Bubbles and really enjoy this scent. It is super refreshing. My lathering was not ideal as my new omega brush is still breaking in. After doing some reading/watching videos I have submersed in water and it’s chilling in the fridge to speed things up a bit so hopefully in a couple days it is fluffy, dense, and gorgeous. This is the first tub I ever bought in my wet shaving journey and so far the coolest of the bunch that I’ve tried (Orbit, Stirling’s glacial soaps,Proraso eucalyptus, Maggard’s menthol). I will pick up another tub before it’s gone forever bc I love that the chill is long lasting and I even like the refreshing smell. I don’t usually use splash on my legs but this is one I purchased on a whim before I knew it was unnecessary, but it really does make the scent and chill last longer. The balm Is awesome.

I would call this a dry lather as I typically leg lather in the shower unless it’s from a sample and then I start in a bowl, make a paste, and go to town on my leg.

I probably use this soap the most often, making it closest to death. I like it so much I bought the fragrance which I’ve only done with one other soap. A & E has really strong cologne- like scents and though I like the 6-7 samples I’ve tried I prob wouldn’t buy a full tub. I have more to try so maybe down the road. I do think the k2 base is incredible. This one was a blind buy and I love it. Like I said I bought the edp bc it was so unique. Well the edp had me second guessing things - I know they enhance the scent, but so far I’m not loving the edp and it has skewed my love a bit. I never thought the soap was “fruity,” but now the fragrance has me second guessing my sniffer. I guess this is middle aged.

C.O Bigelow claims the title of “oldest apothecary in America.” (1838). Proraso was founded in 1908. Definitely older than me. The cream I used today was made “exclusively by Proraso for C.O. Bigelow.” I’m not a Proraso diehard, but it does the job and I can appreciate the cooling , refreshing lather.

Today’s Challenge. Alright you weirdos- I leg shave everyday. I don’t have much else besides peach fuzz elsewhere , but i figured why not. Easy - though I stayed clear of my veins bc this is not how I plan to go out.

I don’t hate the Viking Jr- it was one of my first safety razors and going from that to the Henson was noticeable different due to the weight and angle. Is this Zamac? Is anything I own zamac?

Catie’s Bubbles is awesome. My one interaction with Chris was great and he was really helpful with my Azure selection. The sample sizes are generous and I now own 3 of them plus this one full tub. I know there will be more to come, and look forward for to exploring the others on my list to try.

In a rush today, but wanted to note the smell and performance of this soap is wonderful. What a bummer it is no longer available and Dr. Jon’s is no longer. I am a year too late it seems. I read the insta from him about starting soap making as a hobby and being offered a position managing a dealership … creating the company to support his shaving hobby. Props to all the artisans putting out phenomenal products! I’m not doing FoF, but I got this sample of Radical Rose and it’s pretty great. The description states it is the “only rose fragrance in the world to use Rosa Centifolia oil from the perfumer’s own organic farm (in France)”.. and It is super unique and wavers on more masculine side of rose to me.

Today is a two shower kinda day bc it’s so freaking hot. I believe everything in my shave is from a union state (ok not the glacial drops)! I added several drops of the glacial goodness to provide lasting relief. Lime and lavender are a great combination so it made for a great shave.

I received my first order from Soap Commander and have been patiently waiting to take it out for a spin. I received a hand written, personalized card and a sample with my shaving/bath soap order which was amazing. I do generally get a message on invoices with orders, but this extra touch was a nice surprise and I was impressed. I will definitely place another order as the smell of both the body soap and scent /performance of Recreation were delightful. I’ve never heard of mountain laurel (not a native shrub to Illinois ☹️), but I would be happy smelling this all day. It’s a fresh, green fragrance with the wonderful performance that SBS is known for. If anyone has some stashed away collecting dust in your shave den and wants to start the cleansing process of decluttering, let me know!

As for fragrance- TF Neroli Portofino is as close as I have to pairing with the soap. Base notes include amber ✅ middle notes include neroli ✅ and maybe that’s it. I swear they go nicely together.

I love Christmas- the lights, baking, wrapping presents, the music, movies. It’s my favorite holiday and I am looking forward to adding more holiday scents my collection. First of all- it is early as F, and I’m still late to the show. You people have got a sickness/dedication.

After reading so much about TSF this month, I had to pick some up to try for myself. It was hard to choose as there were several that peaked my interest and I am trying to have some self restraint. I favorited some for the future and went with my initial feeling, Peppermint Patti. I love peppermint, York Peppermint Patties, and “Peanuts” Peppermint Patty .. it was a no brainer that I would also love TSF Peppermint Patti. The package took maybe 2 days to arrive and as I was tearing the box open like a monster I discovered 2 soaps!! 2 full sized soaps! PP AND LEMON!! I must have been really good this year or Aaron really knows how to win people over. Maybe both. I was so pleased I turned around and placed another order (galaxy grape). Time will tell if there is another stowaway , I just hope whoever is packing these orders up doesn’t get in trouble for missing inventory bc this stuff is “pretty, pretty, good.”

There are no lemon notes in this fragrance so how does it pair? I’m not a perfumer, but I think it compliments nicely. If you use your imagination anything could be true.

Challenge: Brush cleaning?? You mean the rinse after lathering in shave soap doesn’t make it clean? Wet brush, a dab of dawn dish soap , massage /work soap in getting down to the roots, let sit for 5 or so minutes with some soft music , thoroughly rinse , tease the hair once in each direction by gently fanning the tips, then air dry. That’s the way to treat yo’self.. or your brush.

Today’s Challenge - while I did plan to shave with my non- dominant hand I succumbed to an injury walking with my SOTD forgetting there was a blade in - my alum pencil did nothing but sting. Luckily I am certified in traumatic bleeding, but it didn’t come to that this time.

For the photo contest I have some birds- Peregrine Falcons to be exact. Falcons have nested at a nearby library (Evanston Public Library if you’re interested) for years and this year their clutch consists of 4 (3 males and one female)! Last year was a rough year for them so it’s amazing to see them have success. It’s pretty amazing to see how fast they grow and their stages of development. Volunteers will start to be on fledge watch this week as the juveniles are now all able to jump on the ledge (as seen in the photo) and will be start taking the first test flights.

“Good morning sandalwood” Simple and straightforward shave today. This is my first sandalwood soap that I’ve used that I’m aware of. It’s a pleasant, masculine smelling scent, nothing amazing, but it’s okay.

Challenge: I think everyone is a winner for sticking it out this long. I wish I had time to read each and every post , watch every video, see all the pictures, but given the time differences among us that’s makes it really challenging to keep up with in addition to my non Reddit responsibilities. I will say everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive of myself and other newbies which is pretty incredible and unheard of.

I think ROTY is tough and I’m glad I’m not a judge. I’m guessing u/bmac92 though I think u/MudAccording deserves an honorable mention. I really enjoy the posts from all the ROTY players and early on saw my competitors post and knew I didn’t have a chance, but greatly enjoyed going along for the ride anyway.

An assortment of some money from my travels. I studied abroad in Greece and it was the best time of my life. With the Euro you miss some of that country specific cash, but I suppose it makes things easier. Get out there and travel the world and your own country.
