A nice cool seaworthy shave today! Using PAA Chill Mill to add a cool breeze to my Barrister's Reserve Spice Lather. Felt like being at sea on a tall ship!

Hardware Scavenger Hunt: I used my Gillette toggle. Bought it and it wouldn't adjust and had a lot of brassing. I had it revamped in rhodium. This was my first shave with it!

My cheap All-Star Badger was bought as a add on to an ATT Razor purchased still with a bit of funk. My first time use, al little shedding.

A tip of the hat to Priusaurus and Boston with my BC shirt and my extremely outdated (Does studying 1997 count as Paleontology?) Fodor's Guide to Boston !

Straight from Africa, Bundubeard Lemoenbossie & Appel Mutton Tallow Shaving Soap. Great slick, abundant lather. It overflowed my scuttle and made a mess! I had enough lather to shave for a week. Maybe it was the mutton? It was my first time using this specific soap and it was a great shave. When I ordered from Bundubeard they sent many extras, including 2 bars of soap and some blades, highly recommended.

Today's challenge: My Blackland Tradere was smooth today, but I got a little careless and had a small nick. It burned a bit with my Omega Alum Stick, but what really burned me was that the Omega stick fell out separated from its base (see picture) and fell into the sink! I wish I was using an Osma Alum! It wouldn't have fallen into the sink!

My own personal challenge for the lather games is to use a different razor and soap each day! I will also try to use all of my brushes at least once!

Having a great time so far! Who knew shaving could be so much fun!

A nice shave with a trusted Gillette Super Adjustable True Black Beauty! Smooth and close on setting number 5 using a Personna X-Series Blade. Wonderfully simple Almond scent from a nice lather. Almond Creme aftershave from Stirling to top off a very pleasant shave!

I truly miss Tabac base with Tallow! I was able to buy a Tallow shave stick and love the rich creamy lather. I will be extremely sad when it is completely gone. Current favorite base is Ethos F base, although I hear there is a new base coming out soon. Looking forward to it! I also enjoy PAA CK6 which seems to work synergistically with the Cube preshave.

I had never shaved with a Gem razor before today. I have several vintage razors, but never felt inclined to try one. I did not have a modern Gem razor, so I 3D printed my own! It was manufactured today 6/6/2024! It took about an hour to print my "Triceratops". I was a little worried about how it would shave, especially never having used a Gem razor before. My fears were unfounded. It shaved surprisingly well. No cuts and only a little irritation after a 2.5 pass shave. The results were a DFS. Not to bad at all. I am glad I convinced my wife to "get the kids" a 3D printer last Christmas. I printed the razor to match my shower curtain, blue and white which had the added bonus of being able to use the rainbow hashtag. My lather from Catie's Bubbles was very nice with a good cushion. I enjoyed the Irish Coffee scent even though I am not Irish!

I was unable to film my shave, but I most enjoy WetTubing star Mark Szorady. I enjoy his positive attitude and energy. I find his shaving tips helpful. I watched him when I was first starting my wet shaving journey. Watching him now feels like visiting with a friend. I also enjoy Subie Shaves.

My personal challenge continues and I again was able to use a different blade, razor, brush and soap brand.

I decided to go all out today and use my favorite razor and brush the BBS1 and Wolf Whiskers Inside Out Glass wth a Maggards SHD Knot.  The blade I used was a Gillette Nacet. I have never used one before and this probably wasn't the best day for it. I did my GeoFatboy Special - 1 pass against the grain 1 and done.  I used Fine Fresh Vetiver, and made a nice lather.  I had a few weepers and nicks. Nect time I need to try this blade in my usual 2-3 pass shave. The XTG one and done was a bit rough. I have never used a vetiver soap before.  I don't even know what vetiver is. It was nice, but not my cup of tea.

Personal challenge still going, with a different blade, razor, soap brand and brush.  I have another brush hopefully arriving tomorrow so I think I will be able to use a different brush each day if I also borrow my sons.  I don’t know why or how I have accumulated so many brushes!

My face in recovery mode from the GeoFatboy challenge yesterday. I woke up with irritation, so I put on some Bundubeard "My Bilksem" Beach Bum Aftershave Balm. It is a very greasy balm, but works wonders on irritated skin. I normally would have skipped shaving to let my face recover, but the games must go. I decided to use very mild razor if Feather ASD2. With the slickness of the Maggards Mango Sage Tea soap and a nice Astra SP Green, I had a pleasant shave. I used Macduffs Royal Earl Grey aftershave to keep in the tea state of mind. TO help heal my face faster, I also used Bart's Balm -Ben Vorlich. It smelled nice and was soothing.

    Today's Challenge Mad Braggard Day:

Lucky for me I have placed two recent big orders from Maggards in the last 3 months . I have focused mostly on aftershave and samples. I love the variety Maggards has, and I appreciate the amount of different shave soap samples they offer. I have bought too many! It is getting more difficult to hide these purchases! I also have a Maggards SHD knot in my Wolf Whisker's Brush and a have a 26mm knot I used today in my Timeless adjustable brush handle. It is my favorite badger knot!

My Personal Challenge Different Blade, Razor, Brush and Soap Brand Everyday: Still going strong, no repeats so far.

I used my OneBlade Genesis today. I have tried hard to like this razor, but I can't seen to get a good shave. I have used the Feather blades and also found these Kai Best blades. They are plain Carbon Steel. That is the only reason I used the OneBlade today, the Kai Best was the only Carbon Steel Blade I had and wanted to use the hashtag. The other thing about my OneBlade is that I picked it up used and pretty cheap because it is engraved with someone else's name. I told my family (and keep telling myself) that it is a special edition version. That is why it has some other dude's name on it.

Back to my shave. I like Mike's soaps. They lather really well! I enjoyed my shave despite the razor I used. Keeping to the barbershop theme, I used Fine American Blend aftershave.

Lather Games Scent Quiz was one of the hardest quizzes I have ever taken and I have a doctorate! 6/32. I only got the simple ones and the soaps I own.

My personal goal of using a different blade, razor, brush, aftershave and soap brand still going strong. I used my brand new custom Wolf Whiskers brush. Thanks Peter! Still having a blast!

Another shave down. The Timeless slant was nice, but the London Bridge Blade was a little rough. The scent of the Zingari Man/Rogue Collaboration is out of this world! I just bought a full tub after trying this sample.

Challenge: The song I hear when shaving is The Scorpions "No One Like You" I guess I should say I hear it and picture the video. Especially the forks! Something clicks when I am shaving and that the song and video pop into my head frequently. Perhaps it is that the time I spend shaving is an escape from all of my trouble, like escaping prison or maybe it is just a good song? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VwbyBGbqPY

Today was an exciting day for me in the Lather Games! I was looking forward to this special challenge of matching all of my colors. My favorite color is Red so, I used different shades of Red! First was my Crimson Ghost razor with a Personna Red Blade. Then came the light red/pink Bubble Gube preshave, followed by my Semogue Red boar brush perfectly whipping up the MCD Red Rose lather. I topped everything off with my Red topped Thayers toner and Dr. Jon's Red Rose of Phrygia aftershave! Awesome lather and shave with my first use of the Crimson Ghost!

Still going strong with my personal challenge of different blade, razor, brush, aftershave and soap brand every day!

My shave was OK. I used my Wolfman WR2 with patina. I bought it used and the previous owner called it the "Ugly Wolfman" I disagree, I think it looks great. The patina is mostly on the handle. The cream was Pre De Provence No. 63. My first time using it. I face lathered. I was not a fan of the scent or performance. It could just be me, I really never use creams. Finished up with Tallow + Steel Morocco.

My personal challenge of a different blade, razor, brush, soap brand and aftershave still going strong.

Although I think I preferred the old simple black containers Eleven Soaps used. To simplify my redesigned label might help https://imgur.com/a/qoAbEg2 I used my PAA The Doppler brush because it sounds like Doppelganger, although doppler is named after an Austrian scientist and Doppleganger is a German term meaning "Ghostly Double" I used my Yates Merica razor for a smooth easy shave! I finished up with the sane scent, this time from Stirling Soaps' dupe of Creed Aventus, Executive Man.

My personal challenge is still on with different brush, blade, razor, aftershave and soap brand used.

Another fine shave today using my Karve Overlander. The House of Mammoth lathered so thick, I made way too much! It had a mild cool from the WS-23 synthetic cooling agent. I used a Rockwell blade I have never used before and it went well.

Stacking Day Challenge: I call this my Tower of Terror. It wasn't very tall. but I was terrified my just delivered today and never used Alpha Spirit SE razor would fall and break into pieces. I wanted to be unique and I used 4 scuttles (Why do I have 4 scuttles? I don't know!) and one shaving bowl. I have a second bowl, but my son has claimed it and was afraid I would break "his" unbreakable bowl. So, I was stuck with only one bowl. Kids!

A very nostalgic shave today! I used my made of Zamac Merkur Progress which was the first DE razor I owned. I learned to shave with it. It is always like seeing an old friend. The shaving with my closest to empty well used soap, Low Scent Skeletor. My Brush today was a Mühle with the synthetic Silver Tip Fiber knot. These knots cost well over $20.

Todays Challenge: I usually have a thick and dry lather, but today is Water Day so I drowned my soap with water. https://imgur.com/a/JW9QVhc

I was glad to have an adjustable razor and dialed it down, thinking I would not have enough cushion because of how thin the lather was, but the A&E was still slick and had just enough cushion on my first pass. For the second pass I wasn't as lucky and my styptic pencil got a work out. Still having fun! Different blade, razor, brush, soap brand and aftershave still going.

Ah Cella since 1899, one of the first shaving soaps I used. I love the scent, I still can't find an aftershave that is quite the same, and I have tried many. Some are close, but not quite there. Nice shave today except the leg shave! I thought I would mix the old with the new and used a Proof Whiskey Razor. First time using it and it went well paired with half a Lord Platinum blade.

Today's Challenge: I kept asking myself why?! I was worried my wife would come in while I was shaving. I rushed. Thankfully my leg hair has gotten less with age. Here is the before picture: https://imgur.com/a/xq0GD8R

I went to town lightly lathering and then shaving. The pivoting head on the Whiskey razor helped. After photo: https://imgur.com/a/4S01YSB Now I have legs Joe Namath would be envious of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHia0cvW9Ho

Ok, so there I am minding my own business knee lathering my vegan SW Samhain soap and there is a knock at the door. "Honey, why is the door locked? Are you shaving your legs again?" I said "No" in my most manly voice. Fast forward 6 months "Well you see judge, it was all part of the Lather Games." He never heard of them. So, I will blame the Lather Games for my divorce. Maybe I should wear a "Bro" from Seinfeld next time I shave my legs. In reality both yesterday's challenge and today's challenge went well. I made enough lather today for a 2.5 pass shave using my knee and my amazing little Wee Scot brush. https://imgur.com/a/6pYC2wQ

Today's Challenge complete, I am now an experienced knee latherer.

I went out to pick up take out and made a quick detour for for a short hike along the Pachaug River. I think my wife is going to start to get suspicious that I am having an affair with all of my sneaking around. If she notices I shaved my legs she is going to start to wonder what kind of an affair it is. "But Honey, it's the Lather Games!" The sample of AA Shaving's Wapiti (Thanks Onionmiasma!) matched perfectly to my surroundings. The aquatic notes, followed by the woodsy finish was just outstanding. I did a 1.5 pass shave with some quick touchups so I could get home without too much suspicion.

To make matters worse, I decided since it was Information Overload, I wanted to use two razors for Twins. I used a 1912 Gem and a 1912 Ever Ready. I have never used either razor, and it was only my second time using a Gem type razor. The first time was earlier this month during the Lather Games. My soap has 10 scent notes and I decided to go with the theme of the day for my aftershave and Fragrance. They both have over 10 notes. The Isacco aftershave has 17 notes and Bowling Green has 28 notes! I have been wearing Bowling Green for years and never knew how complex it was.

Soap -Seaforth! Spiced: Scent notes include: Mandarin, Aldehydes, Carnation, Anise, Cinnamon, Clove, Cardamom, Benzoin, Tonka, and Vanilla

Aftershave-Abbate Y La Mantia Isacco: HEAD NOTES: Apple, Green, Grape, Coconut, Pineapple, Herbaceous, Strawberry, Banana, Peach. HEART NOTES: Rose, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Hawthorn, Gardenia. BASE NOTES: Woody, Amber, Musk

Fragrance- Geoffrey Beene Bowling Green: Top notes are Lemon, Bergamot, Orange, Cloves, Juniper Berries, Fruity Notes, Basil and Vetiver; middle notes are Lemon Verbena, Lavender, Oakmoss, Pine Tree Needles, Nutmeg, Sage, Artemisia, Cardamom, Cinnamon and Jasmine; base notes are Oakmoss, Fir, Geranium, Rosemary, Coriander, Cedar, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Amber and Brazilian Rosewood.

How my Frugal shave became my most costly

Well, I didn’t read all the rules about Frugal Friday until after I had planned out my days.  I thought cost would be what I paid for an item. I didn’t realize that it was based on the usual cost of a product.  So, this forced me to do a long overdue soap purge.  I decided what soap brands I really liked and got rid of the ones I didn’t care for or cost less than my Talent Soap Factory.  Talent Soap Factory is very affordable so, there weren’t that many.   I gave most to my son (He still lives at home so I did have to borrow some) and a few to friends.  I even had to give away several Razorocks, Stirlings and my beloved Cella (still one of my favorite scents).  I mostly kept soaps from some of the Lather Games' sponsors as well as some other favorites like MdC, Ethos and MacDuffs.  I did keep a bunch of samples, so I can still have a variety.  So next year my den photo should look much better unless I start hoarding soaps again.

Today's Challenge: I used Talent Soap Factory soap for several reasons. It was tied with several others as my cheapest soap by wt.   (Nobody warned me that math was involved in the Lather Games) Also, I was given this soap for free when I ordered a bunch of aftershaves.  So it really is my most frugal shave soap.   I 3D printed my razor which cost a whopping 37 cents to print.  My Scuttle cost $4.61 to print and my brush cost $2.25 to print plus $8.95 to buy the knot.  My cheapest blades, Personna Comfort Coated were about 12 cents each bought in bulk.  Surprisingly my shave wasn't too bad. I took it very slow after I butchered my face yesterday with the Leftorium Challenge. My aftershave Brut is dirt cheap about $5.69 at Walmart and the fragrance Dragon Noir is $6.99 for a huge 14 oz bottle.  All in all a very Fugal shave.  I really enjoyed this frugal shave and with all the money I “saved” I will be able to start hoarding soaps again!

Still going with different brush soap brand, aftershave, blade and razor every day. Only 2 days left! VIVA THE LATHER GAMES!

    • Razor: Eclipse - Red Ring
    • Blade: Parker - Premium Platinum
    • Lather:  Savonniere Du Moulin - Cedres Et Anis
    • Post Shave: Bart's Balm - Ben Nevis
    • Fragrance: Burberry - Touch

For the final day of the Lather Games, I decided on a European Tour. This was fitting because yesterday I celebrated my anniversary, and for our honeymoon we did a tour of Europe. I am from the USA. First my razor was an Eclipse Red RIng made in England. My blade was a Parker made in Turkey from Swedish steel on German machinery. My brush a Zenith from Italy. My lather was Savonniere Du Moulin Cedres Et Anis made on a Donkey farm in France. My aftershave balm was Bart's Balm from Scotland and my fragrance was Burberry Touch made in Spain.

Today's challenge, all my items are from different countries and specifically all European.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Lather Games, thanks for putting this together!
