I have been looking for an excuse for about six months to buy this brush, so I'm glad that u/EldrormR is hosting the #RawHoggin side challenge again. Last year I got my first ever boar brush because of this challenge, and that was when I discovered that I liked boar a heck of a lot more than the synthetics I was using.

I was really surprised that this brush didn't stink at all. It smelled very neutral while dry and still in the box, after soaking for ~5 minutes in cool water, and during lathering. There was no funky smell in the bathroom after use, either. It shed ~10 hairs during its first use today, but it didn't eat lather as badly as I remember boar doing in the past. It was also remarkably soft for a brand new brush. Big surprises all around. Looking forward to seeing how this brush turns out over the course of the month.

This unbleached boar brush is very unusual. It shed two hairs today, has had no stink at all, doesn't eat very much lather, and already feels very soft. I'm not really sure what's going on here, but so far I really like it. #RawHoggin

Oops! I forgot to take a picture of my brush before I dipped it in a mug to soak. I linked an "after" picture up at the top of my post instead. I'm getting down near the bottom of this tub of Firefighter, so I smushed it all down flat on the bottom to make it easy to load. No hairs shed off of my brush today. #RawHoggin

Only one hair shed from my brush today. Firefighter still going strong. This tub will definitely not last the month, but I have a backup on the way to make sure I can finish AA. My fear with Austere August is that I'm going to burn out and end up hating one of my favorite scented shave products. Fortunately I don't think there's any risk of that happening here. In fact I think I might really enjoy a Firefighter bath soap or EdP in the future. #RawHoggin

Still going strong with Firefighter. This Zenith really feels more like a synthetic than a boar brush, just without the springyness. Really weird, but I'm not complaining. #RawHoggin

I went out of town last weekend and completely forgot about #RawHoggin. I brought my synth without even thinking about it. Major brain fart. I killed my tub of Firefighter today, but I have a backup on hand to get me through until the end of the month. I still love this scent and I'm glad for that. After using Fougere Angelique all month last August, I haven't been able to enjoy it quite the same since then. Although I am no longer in the running for #RawHoggin side challenge, I'm still working on breaking in this unbleached boar. I think it's pretty much fully broken in by now, and I like it a lot.
