So this is SOTD post number 2 on the day and really within a few hours of one another. This one is far less entertaining given that it’s actually on theme whereas the other shave I assumed this to be a vegan soap day. Fortunately I was able to right my wrongs of trying to follow a vegan lifestyle and rub a little duck fat all over my face to finish up chasing the coveted ultra BBS. Honestly the most disappointing part here was having to use this abomination of a brush again tonight. Great shave(s) this evening though!

On. A. Roll. Knocking out 3 days of shaving in a row which is quite the feat for me these days. It’s such a shame that SBSW isn’t around anymore because their base is still quality years later. Can’t say that a straight up coffee scent is really my favorite, but it gets the job done. Also still calling on /u/J33pGuy13 to actually name this blank. Fairly certain it’s been a year at this point and these handles are still nameless.

This is easily my least favorite day every single time it rolls around. The canned shave goop will do the job, but there’s absolutely nothing luxurious about it. I couldn’t even make myself take a serious SOTD photo because Barbasol just doesn’t deserve that kind of effort. Lack of photo effort inspired by /u/whosgotthepudding

I do believe that I also hit the challenge today on the basis of normally I build my lather on my face, but Barbasol does not require our outdated brush technology to build a lather and simply exits the can in an already lathered state.

Honestly kinda bummed I couldn't find my aftershave for this scent. Last time I used this is kinda burned me for some unknown reason and I've used it quite a few times. BSG has always been a lesser known favorite of mine as the base has always been excellent.

A little bit of info on the Wassail beverage for anyone that may have never heard of it.

Been a very, very long day and I got home late. Glad I got this shave in because I wasn't too sure I was gonna get off the couch after I stayed there for a bit. Here's to hoping the rest of the weekend slows down a little bit!

Great shave this evening overall, but I think this scent is a bit too dark for how hot and humid it is here in Mississippi. Just happy to wrap up an extremely long weekend with a nice shave. Hope everyone has a great week!

Managed to hit 10/32 on the challenge today. Not good, but not the worst I guess. Several artisans that I've got no experience with unfortunately.

Just a super quick shave this evening. I’m doing my best to keep up with what shaves I can this month just off my collection and skipping the days I can’t hit the theme. This scent definitely reminds me of something along the lines of Tabac and screams retirement home to me. Either way I do enjoy the scent, but this base is just nothing to really write home about.

June 11, 2024 - April Showers Bring May Flowers

Still probably my favorite scent from last year and this shave was a good reason to take it for a spin. Finally getting to try a V&C brush and generally speaking I’m pretty impressed with it. I think there is still some break-in left on the table for this knot, but I think it’s a keeper overall. Great shave this time around with no complaints.

Pretty sure I hit the challenge, but of course this one is up to the judges discretion as to whether it all coordinates.

June 13, 2024 - Dupelgänger

The last few days have just been brutal fighting a terrible migraine. Day before last I irritated it worse with Juniper Reverie. I had to skip yesterday because I didn’t think I’d be able to shave without a scent causing problems. Wasn’t completely certain I’d make it thru today because I expected dupe scents to just cause problems. This one of Black Phantom by Killian actually wasn’t too bad honestly and was quite enjoyable. The donkey milk base is actually quite good and leaves a really nice residual slickness. I’d be curious to see if HAGS strayed away from this kind of performance with their newer bases after scrapping these.

Unfortunately this is the closest thing I have to a tub kill in my den today. You can actually see the bottom so I guess that’s gotta count for something. Wonderful shave today though from the razor, the brush and the software. Anytime I get to use the premium base I already know it’s gonna end up being one of the best shaves I’ve had. I am finding a little more love for this CFL too as it wasn’t was a love/hate situation for me. Maybe start putting a little more use on it this month.

Tried to go for the full RIP experience with this shave. I always love this day because it forces me to dig out stuff that I fear using because “what if I run out and can’t find anymore.” Shaken might be one of my favorite scents in the space and I’m unsure whether it’s the scent I actually like or the uniqueness of it. I did have a slight hiccup starting this shave with a new Wizamet that just didn’t want to cooperate and was just horribly scrapey and required me to go back to a blade with probably 10+ uses. I think that’s one of the hardest things in this hobby is forcing yourself to stop your shave for a bad blade and not just toughing it out.

I wasn’t really trying to hit the theme today as I just kinda dug thru my pile of soaps and landed on unscented for some reason. I do believe Wholly Kaw is in New Jersey, but I’m sure someone will correct me if it’s not. Quick, easy shave tonight and honestly I’m not too familiar with Wholly Kaw soaps and it still turned out great.

Picked this up on the recent clearance sale and it arrived just in time to hit this theme. It’s been a year or so since I sampled this and it’s been on my pick up list ever since. It also puts me in the mood to binge Tenacious D music and there’s nothing wrong with that either. I loved this Blutt once upon a time, but the last few times I’ve used it make me want to get rid of it. Maybe I just need to get some more consistent use again.

Pretty long day and had to try and squeeze in a shave this evening. Absolutely top notch shave overall and this is definitely upper tier as far as personal preference goes. Getting some more use on the CFL, L7 is one of my favorite general use knots and Zingari Sego products are also an absolute joy to use. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Great shave as always with this 34 Aristocrat. Quite possibly my favorite vintage shaver because I just don't think I've ever had a bad shave with it. Absolutely love MacDuffs soap base, but still on the fence about the splash with the slight tacky feeling. Regardless it was a really good shave after an extremely long day.

I’m really enjoying putting consistent use on this Legacy Ti. Certainly not the closest shave, but it is definitely easy to use every single day. Also I’ve been questioning what my desert island base would be lately and I really feel like MacDuffs is up there in the top 2 or possibly 3. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad shave with this base and then the scents are always pretty spot on with my liking.

Just kinda in a rush to get this shave done this evening. Didn't even take the time to see if this had been used so late in the day, but something tells me that Smoking Bishop of all the soaps had not been used. Closing in on the last few days!

I’ve realized way too late in the month that I seriously dropped the ball on software vendors. I think I just got caught up doing whatever I felt like for themes and ignoring the rest. Definitely a lack of planning on my part and just throwing myself into it. Hopefully including the notes here for the theme will be beneficial for the judges.
