I have several tubs of each soap. And while I like the Otter, I had to go with Nordost this morning. The smell off the puck is very orange forward. And as usual lots of lather. Another great shave overall.

Some are saying that there's a distinct aroma around Wetshaving Arena today. No it's not Seville or Rawr. It's something deeper. Some say it smells like an upset today. Some say the furry little Otter is going to take down the Leviathan known as Barrister & Mann. This will be a hotly contested battle here. There will be a lot of elbows thrown under the rim and probably a couple of nutshots for good measure. Only time will tell whether the Otter Gangs noses are sus so let's get on to the shave.

I thought briefly about contributing to chaos and using the furry litle bastard this morning, but that thought passed quickly and into the B&M stash I went. This funky/fruity scent was perfect for the day after dealing with an ice storm. I probably should have brought this set to Miami with me last week since this was made for the South Florida Wet Shavers I do believe. This blade might be toast but the Glissant base still held up to it and I had a lovely shave.

Team Otter show up! Otters are social creatures, unlike lawyers, so I have big expectations for today. We’ll see. The legal beagles came strong out of the gate.

This blade is probably past its prime, but I only have 6 more #MMarch24 shaves so I’m probably gonna ride it out.

But let’s talk about the brush. It’s on loan from our resident ~~horder~~ archivist, and this is only the second hand tied knot I’ve ever tried. The other being a B3 which was…suboptimal. In advance I ran through my V18 and V20 fanchurians again because they feel different to me and I was trying to figure out why. Looking at them, the hair in the V18 seems a bit thicker, and it has a slightly more hybrid shape than the totally flat top V20. Both these give the V20 more splay, and to me a better feeling of the brush on my face (as opposed to it being more like a thick cloth.

The L4, splits this somehow, having the splay of the V20, with the “can feel no individual hair, wall of badger” feeling. And like the B3, it feels made for this brush in a way the fanchurans can’t. I like it. Having said that the V20 gets me 80% of the way there for 30% of the price so, not sure about that. And having said that, if I never experienced the V20, I’d probably say the V18 gets 75% of the way there.

One thing though that was totally different was how this thing held lather. It felt like there were extradimensional pockets just expelling the lather as I went. I did a bit longer load than normal because it didn’t look like it picked up enough soap and ended up with enough for 6 passes if I wanted. And I kept having to add water to my face (despite being a mostly bowl latherer) because it kept putting out more soap as I went. I could definitely see that as being a boon to the face lathering crowd. I may try face lathering with Chesire tomorrow.

I'm going to second and third-guess myself today.

My heart is with the otter on this one; looking at all the factors holistically, they could potentially take the whole bracket. However, I glanced at my soaps before today's shave, and Barrister and Mann occupies way more of my den than any other brand. And that's without factoring in aftershaves or at least one core-line scent I haven't picked up yet since I'll kill my sample first (which might be a while). Excelsior is still my favorite base, and Omnibus is excellent too, as is Barrister and Mann's packaging (though I'm partial to the old labels). Going brain over heart on this one. Still routing for the otter 'tho.

u/J33pGuy13, the V&C brush lost a few more hairs today, so we're up to twelve lost this shave and the last, plus however many I lost before that and failed to record. I'd say three or four each shave is a accurate estimate.

I'm old enough to remember when Shulton made Old Spice, and it is that version of the aftershave that my Dad and Grandfather had in their medicine cabinets. As much as I'm a fan of NO, nostalgia tipped the scale and B&M Spice is the choice. I find Seaforth! Spiced to be a nice complimentary scent and went with it post-shave. I’m still feeling lousy, but adulting takes precedence with getting up early to take Lil_Donette to work and run her car to get the brake job she had done last Thursday looked at and re-fixed. When a caliper with 250,000 miles on it decides to fail, there’s not many options. At least I got to sit at the shop for three hours and be unbothered.

I got home and rewarded myself with a hot shower and a fresh blade. Back to a blissful shaving experience and no more nonsense.
