I was very conflicted this morning. But I really enjoy the Southern Witchcrafts stuff. I have had the Carpathia for a while now. First time using it. My sus nose kinda gets the woods after a rain. I really like it. And the lather was very pillowy. Lots of cushion and very slick.

In now way do I mean any disrespect to Barrister and Mann. I have several of their soaps. Just had to go off script today.

Now for coffee. Heading to the American Legion later today to meet a bunch of my guard buddies for corned beef and cabbage. Should be fun catching up. Have a great shave day all.

I like to tell the story about when I invited myself to Steven and Courtney's house when I was first starting out with wetshaving.

I only had samples up to that point, but wanted to buy my first full tub. It was during the pandemic and my job was on thin ice, so I wanted to make my $16 count. They let me come smell all they had to offer, and I walked out with a tub of Lycanthropy and a few free samples they graciously threw in. They even offered to sell me the last new tub of OG Gravefruit on earth, which I declined after smelling.

It was really nice of them to let me into their home and smell their stuff, and Lycanthropy did not disappoint. They discontinued it, though, and I'll never forgive them.

Precision Load; Face Lather; WTG/ATG/Cleanup Passes; BBS Result; 15th Consecutive / 289th Overall SOTD Post

I spent the first half of March focusing on improving my lathering and MM24 techniques so in order to minimize variables I kept the soap base constant. It's now time to test my technique improvements on different soap bases, and the Elite Eight matchups provide the ideal opportunity to do so.

This is a heart vs head choice. Logically speaking B&M should get my nod since it's the second highest number of tubs (after Stirling) in my stash, and a number of their scents would be great choices as desert island soaps. Instead, I went with my heart and today's vote goes to Southern Witchcrafts. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

Sadly, I have to give this one to Barrister and Mann. Will's soaps will probably go far in my tourney, occupying lots of my shelf space and featuring many of my favorite scents in the game. I also have a soft spot for Excelsior, the first elite-level base I really dialed in; it just feels correct.

Interested to see how this game turns out.

Over halfway through the MMarch Madness. I only have samples of Southern Witchcrafts, some of the fragrances that have the “darker” scents don’t agree with me. If I used them today, it would have been Pomona or Samhain. I had planned on a different approach today, but made a last minute switch to go all in on fruit themed scents. No surprise that these worked together, though the citrus of the splash and cologne have really diminished the amount of apple from Braeburn. Still, this is a combo I would do again. I haven’t tried to tally up the score so far, but wow is it going to be close. SW can definitely pull off the upset today.

Edit: just did an informal +/- count, and looks like Barrister and Mann is +8 or 9. Tried to use the Blackjack card counting system, but I’m not the best at keeping a count. Going back about half way down they were even, but the earlier shaves had more streaks of Barrister and Mann than Southern Witchcrafts. This can still go either way.

This was a really hard one for me. Both artisans I really connect with, but I had to give the edge to Southern Witchrafts. I heard tell that Fougere Nemeta won't be coming back this spring... That truly breaks my heart. Again so hard to decide but it may be my favorite offering from SW. I'll be sure to cherish this puck and stretch it as long as I can.
