Anniversary with my gf. We will go to a Sushi restaurant later. Unfortunately, today is the first day the blade gives me nics. I am tempted to do the second luxury shave later, but think it would invalidate the spirit of AA. For lathering, I threw one third of the leftover soap, like a stick, into the bowl and got wonderful lather. I hoped to get rid of the remaining soap faster, but that did not work out. I could stretch the remaining soap for halve a month, but try to use it up in less than 9 shaves.

Another fine shave with Almond Leather. Now that the month is almost done, I'm surprised how much is still left in this tub after attacking it with this monster Declaration knot for weeks. Maybe the brush is breaking in and its appetite for soap has lessened, or this tub o' Tusk is just especially resilient. Two more shaves left and the tub is at about 45% remaining. Balm about 75%.

I started Armored Core 6 last night. Damn, it's hard. Obviously it is a From Software game, so, yeah, it is going to be difficult. But the Souls/Bloodborne/Elden Ring series is difficult in a way I'm familiar with, and I clicked with the combat mechanics of Sekiro pretty quickly. Armored Core 6, on the other hand, is like nothing I've played before and is a lot to take in. I spent about an hour on the tutorial boss last night before finally breaking through.

The fear of blood tends to create fear for the flesh.
Luckily, there was no blood this time (or at all this entire month, for that matter).

A foggy morning shave, and a pretty hurried one at that. Was rather under the pump this morning but needed to get the shave in no matter what, so I knuckled down and got it all done - plus drying and cleaning everything up - in just around 10 minutes. The usual one pass plus buffing, so not a very respectable time, but at least I wasn't late to work and still got a passable shave out of it, so hey.

We're doing a staff photo today for a special paper next week - it'll be put in a time capsule to be unearthed 30 years from now. My ugly mug is gonna scare some poor cyberpunk kid three decades from now, fancy that. At least they'll go 'man, this dude definitely shaved with Mammoth - it's so obvious'.

Not much else to report. Blade still trucking along and cutting hair, and the rest of my setup feels even more like a trusted companion than it already did when I started. At the very least, AA is a great way to figure out if you're gonna keep using your selected gear going forward. If I wasn't happy with one aspect of it I'd definitely get rid of it after a whole month of forced interaction. Luckily I love it all, and that's why I chose it in the first place.

Brush before shave 29

I decided to stop seeing the minimum amount of soap to get a lather tonight. I scooped at least twice as much as yesterday. It took many applications of water to build it up, but I got the brush fuller than any shave this month. I could have done two more passes with what I had left. The blade is definitely showing wear. It is starting to tug when I’m shaving my neck. It is still cutting whiskers, but it is taking more strokes to finish each pass. I am starting to think I’ll miss Sonder when the month is over, but I have lots of new stuff to try.

School starts for my older 2 tomorrow. RIP me. I need more summer. They’re excited (and sad), but – I’m mostly just sad. Dang kids have a way of just ripping your soul out while you watch them grow up. I know some of y’all are way further down the line than me and I know the relationship changes but I just want to keep them as the sweet “dad is my hero” kids that they are forever and every year they go to school and at the end of it they come back different. Fuller, more independent, more grown up. And I love that for them and I hate that for me. Stupid self-sacrificing to raise kids.

Shave was decent, though. Couple little nicks – went with the grain and across the grain on this one for most of it (more than usual, anyway) and it went well. Had to hybrid two pass my chin and my neck somewhat. I was reflecting on how awful the first 3 shaves were now that we’re in the final three and dangit I’ve come a long way. Kudos to all you other fools who endured some early suffering to come out more refined on this side of things.
