u/djundjila the other day timed his shave from start to finish. I was curious-- mine came in at 7:28 for a two-passer, from the time I got my brush wet to when I got the third nick stopped bleeding.

I'm not sure I'm going to make it to the end of the month. This blade is being bad quickly. My lather was dripping, and the blade kept getting caught and then jumping, which was the source of all three cuts today.

Well, the jumping and my two year old crashing into me and yelling, "Hi Daddy, what doing?"

    Sunday begins.

    Austere August:

    Dear u/PrideTwo

Today marks the twentieth day of this unyielding #WAR, a milestone that brings a mix of emotions. As I faced the mirror, the routine felt almost trivial, a familiar dance with the razor and soap that has become a part of my daily life. It's as if this battle has woven itself into the fabric of my existence, each stroke, each pass, a routine etched into my consciousness.

The razor, my constant companion, met my skin with practiced precision. The scent of the soap, that ever-present aroma of #WAR, seemed almost distant, as if my senses have begun to adapt, to find a semblance of balance amidst the olfactory assault.

I found myself longing for the days when I can once again embrace different scents, when the aroma of #WAR no longer dominates my daily routine. It's a longing for variety, for the return of the ordinary, for the chance to explore a world beyond this battle.

As the twentieth day comes to a close, I carry with me the awareness that this #WAR has left its mark, not only on my face but also on my perception of the routine. Tomorrow, I'll face the battlefield anew, armed with the knowledge that every stroke, every pass, is a step closer to the end. And with that end comes the promise of new scents, new experiences, and a return to the ordinary. Until then, my journal, I'll continue to navigate this path, finding meaning in the trivial, and holding onto the hope of what lies ahead. Onward, through the routine that has become both a challenge and a part of who I am.

The Twentieth Day Of Weckoning is upon us

    • Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with a 26 mm unbleached Zenith boar knot at 56 mm loft
    • Razor: Weck Sextoblade Med Prep
    • Blade: Kismet Rostfrei, Polymer beschichtet (26)
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Oceana
    • Post Shave: Ralon – Original
    • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Island Man

The stupid heat dome is still going strong over all over Switzerland. A quick lunchtime shave'n'shower was really nice to cool off. The blade may not be perfect anymore, but still plenty sharp enough for BBS.

Oceana and Island Man were good choices for this hot August.

Another pretty good shave today. I shaved after mowing my lawn this morning and thought as I was finishing up yardwork, today would be a perfect day to use a mentholated soap. I thought Sea Iced Lime would be perfect… Then, it hit me. Still August. Still unscented. Coming down home stretch though! And starting mental list of soaps to shave with the first week of September. #unscented #Monthofweckoning #RawHoggin

Kismet Blade - Losing My Edge
    #Monthofweckoning

I really focused on technique in today's shave. I wondered if a blade with 20 shaves on it could give me the level of comfort and closeness that it did on day one; allowing that I am much more familiar with this setup than I was on day one. Anyway, I have a BBS shave with no fixups needed in my trouble areas.

For technique, I am paying attention to what the unique dimensions of this razor can do. In particular, because of its shape, I can get it into areas that won't fit a wider razor. And this razor cuts a very low angles. It cuts better and much more comfortably this way.

I added an image to the edge album today. This is more about recording the condition than showing anything new. The edge is still in great shape.

I haven't talked about the brush much this month other than to note how comfortable and ergonomic the handle is. The AP Shave Co Titanium knot is the only synthetic I have that has changed over time. Luckily it has changed for the better. When it was new, it just had too much backbone for me. I did some bowl lathering with it where I emphasized spaying the knot and that helped a little. Using it everyday this month, though, has done the trick. The backbone, now, is just right to allow easy loading of soap and the knot splays more easily which highlights the softness of the tips.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

Midday shave. Getting too loose with the shave now that I have the muscle memory. Led to a couple nicks on the ATG.

AA Mileage: 97 miles. Distance PB today. 13 miles without having to redline my heart rate. Should pass my LG total in a couple days.

    Brush Day 20 Before Shaving

Ugh. I had to get up at 4:30 AM to go pick up my wife after her sleep study. I had a hard time falling asleep, so got just a bit over 2 hours sleep. I’m trying to stay up until closer to normal bedtime so I don’t sleep all day and then not sleep tonight before our trip to Six Flags - Bowie. We haven’t been to this one before, but have been to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL many times when we lived about 15 miles north of there in WI.

I really should have tried to shave this morning when I was a bit more alert. I had to really focus and slow down a bit today, so the shave took about 10 minutes longer than yesterday. Still getting little improvements on my neck. Not feeling the blade catch as much. From my sideburns to the jaw I can almost do it in a single swipe on the XTG pass. I think I get my skin the tightest in that direction.

I tried scooping less soap for my brush. After a few good shakes to get as much water out after the soak, I got worried that I went to far in getting the water out. The brush didn’t put much lather onto my face to start. I shouldn’t have been concerned though. Once I started working water into the soap, the brush blossomed and started giving out lots of lather. Pretty pleased with it in the end.

Still not getting a great shave, but I am noticing little improvements still, so I might get there sometime.

    August 20, 2023 – Eventful Day

    • Brush: Summer Break Soaps “Dundy” Maggard Boar 26mm
    • Razor: Marianna #310 Hair Shaper
    • Blade: Personna Hair Shaper (20)
    • Lather: House of Mammoth – Dammusi
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth – Dammusi

Shave today was just fine. It’s been pointed out to me that likely the Personna blade is responsible for keeping these shaves solidly at mediocre and at this point, with a shoddy blade that’s now worn down, they’re unlikely to get much better. That in mind, tonight’s hybrid 2 passer was fine straight down then mostly straight up with a bit of side to side in the places that are hard to go straight up. Someday I’ll be brave and try a true 3 pass with BBS in mind, but, not today and not with this blade.

Dammusi is still excellent. I love the familiarity of it every day.

Dundy is as beautiful and high functioning as ever.

In other news, my son sliced his head open at the playground today and needed stitches. First time with stitches for any of our kids but unlikely the last. It’s always so shocking to see how much heads bleed. Anyway, he’s fine and was in very good spirits before bed. At one point on the drive home he even said, “today was a fun day for me!” – kids are insanely resilient.

    Have a good night, all.
