Day 18 of AA and #RawHoggin.

Pleasant and uneventful shave but happily I got an elusive complement from the Mrs after yesterday's, definitely a good choice for the month. 

In other news, the new brush handle and samples arrived from SBS, picked up all of the ones I was missing (Val, Bell, Rope, Prom & Cannon). There's at least two possibly three in there that will likely convert into a full set so now I can't wait until September just to give them a bash! Though now I've come to it, I think the lather games may have induced a love-hate relationship. I loved it as it was a good laugh, my wife hates it because there's yet another artisan on my radar with even more deliveries incoming…I'll live with it.

As I faced the mirror today, a weight hung heavy in the air. The seventeenth day of this #WAR brought a somber realization - two of my fellow soldiers, u/Zimora, and u/J33pGuy13 have fallen victim to its challenges. The battlefield feels emptier now, the camaraderie we once shared replaced by a sense of solitude. I stand on the front lines alone, determined to continue the fight, to honor their memory by persevering.

With the razor in hand, I embarked on another day of battle. The lessons of yesterday held true, morning shaves proving to be smoother than those in the mid-afternoon. The scent of the soap, that constant reminder of #WAR, seems to echo the sentiment of this battle - unyielding, relentless, yet somehow evolving.

The lather formed easily, a testament to the bond I've formed with the tools I wield. Each stroke of the razor, each pass across my skin, carries with it a sense of purpose, a reminder of the fallen comrades and the battles we've faced together.

As the eighteenth day draws to a close, I carry their memory with me. I fight on, not just for myself, but for those who can no longer stand beside me. This #WAR may be unforgiving, but I refuse to be broken by its challenges. Tomorrow, I'll rise again, armed with the knowledge that morning shaves offer a smoother path, and that even in solitude, I am not alone. Until then, my journal, I'll continue to navigate this battlefield with unwavering determination. Onward, through the complexities of this journey, carrying the legacy of those who fought by my side.

Déjà vu shave again. Boar soak, wet method tub-loading, face lather-building, slick drippy lather, 2 passes (WTG+ATG), DFS result. Knot break-in continues with bristle hair splitting, knot blooming, and no hair loss.

Kinda sorta halfway decent shave. Still far away from a BBS, especially on my chin, but I’m really getting the hang of the technique of the hair shaper. I am starting to get concerned about the longevity of the blade. Finally getting around to posting my 5 a.m. shave as I had to spend this day driving 2 hours north for a 2 hour meeting and then driving 2 hours south in the rain. The blade seems to be holding up ok, but this is definitely the point where the turn to shittiness can happen at any shave. The brush of course continues its easy break in. Pre and post shave pics as per usual.

Brush before shave 18

Have I reached the turning point on AA? I’m getting better at face lathering with the brush, though it takes me 3x as long as bowl lathering. I don’t think the brush is as well broken in as my two Zeniths were by the 18th shave. The SOC is a firm scrubber still, but it is holding a bit more lather now. Tonights shave on the face was as good as yesterday. Still just ok on the neck, but thinking about shaving my neck with a de, that us always worse than the face too. I’d still give the win on the neck to a de, but the face is getting closer.

My nose is being stubborn still. Have not gotten anything new out of the soap or splash this week. Maybe going for a swim this evening messed with my nose. It could be that the blend of scents is just difficult for me to get more individual notes. Sonder is still a banger of a scent though. The splash is feeling really good on my cheeks tonight. It was windy out at the pool tonight, and I’ve gotten a little wind and sun burned.

Accidentally re-sliced the big slice from 2 days ago and it resulted in an absolute bloodbath. I thought about taking pictures but nobody wants to see blood soaked lather, so, you’re welcome. Lots of blood. No pain, thankfully, but, many bloods.

There’s something so peaceful about using the same setup every day. I almost want to do something like this on a shorter basis – like, use the same soap for a whole week every week all year or whatever. It takes away the stress of “ugh, I want to use this but I’d rather use this but I haven’t used this one in forever and it needs to.” Instead it’s just – hey, here’s what we got this week. Simple.
