Nice three-pass shave today. Today's our wedding anniversary so I switched up the frag (after checking with the #Monthofweckoning rules, which only regulate razor, blade, brush, lather, and post shave, but not frags).

We're in the beginning days of a heat dome in central Europe, and Switzerland is sitting right in the middle of it. Usually, the thick stone walls of our 1902 building (over 1 m of masonry) keep the heat out for a few hot days, but today we have 27°C in the home office already at 08:00, so the next few days will be unpleasant 🥵☀🌡

As I faced the mirror today, a weight hung heavy in the air. The seventeenth day of this #WAR brought a somber realization - two of my fellow soldiers, u/Zimora, and u/J33pGuy13 have fallen victim to its challenges. The battlefield feels emptier now, the camaraderie we once shared replaced by a sense of solitude. I stand on the front lines alone, determined to continue the fight, to honor their memory by persevering.

With the razor in hand, I embarked on another day of battle. The lessons of yesterday held true, morning shaves proving to be smoother than those in the mid-afternoon. The scent of the soap, that constant reminder of #WAR, seems to echo the sentiment of this battle - unyielding, relentless, yet somehow evolving.

The lather formed easily, a testament to the bond I've formed with the tools I wield. Each stroke of the razor, each pass across my skin, carries with it a sense of purpose, a reminder of the fallen comrades and the battles we've faced together.

As the eighteenth day draws to a close, I carry their memory with me. I fight on, not just for myself, but for those who can no longer stand beside me. Kinda sorta halfway decent shave. Still far away from a BBS, especially on my chin, but I’m really getting the hang of the technique of the hair shaper. I am starting to get concerned about the longevity of the blade. Progress continues. Today was the first day that I was able to get a full BBS with the Weck. Frankly, I very rarely go for a BBS shave with a DE, which I'm much more comfortable with, because the extra irritation isn't usually worth it for me. But it was just working with the Weck today, so here I am.

I started to notice the faintest amount of dragging from the blade despite having a superb lather, which makes me nervous given that there are 13 shaves remaining. I did notice a few days ago that the shave has started to become much more dependent on a quality lather to be smooth, so we're definitely seeing the impact of the blade dulling.

I used my normal lathering method today but I tried a new, cross-handed pattern for my first pass. Of course it felt awkward, and I'm not certain of any benefits, but it is something to tinker with.

I was in the mood for a 3-pass shave today and obtained a super silky BBS result. I do think that I'm feeling less sharpness in the blade. I added an image of the edge near the toe. You can see a tiny bit of edge wear but the photo won't show any rounding of the apex. I think it is rounded, though, because it is very difficult to get focus there.

I wondered if my issues with focus might be due to a dirty lens in the microscope. Yesterday I took it apart and cleaned it. After cleaning, the lens surface appeared shinier but I don't see any improvement in photo quality.

Have I reached the turning point on AA? I’m getting better at face lathering with the brush, though it takes me 3x as long as bowl lathering. I don’t think the brush is as well broken in as my two Zeniths were by the 18th shave. The SOC is a firm scrubber still, but it is holding a bit more lather now. Tonights shave on the face was as good as yesterday. Still just ok on the neck, but thinking about shaving my neck with a de, that us always worse than the face too. I’d still give the win on the neck to a de, but the face is getting closer.

My nose is being stubborn still. Have not gotten anything new out of the soap or splash this week. Maybe going for a swim this evening messed with my nose. It could be that the blend of scents is just difficult for me to get more individual notes. Sonder is still a banger of a scent though. The splash is feeling really good on my cheeks tonight. It was windy out at the pool tonight, and I’ve gotten a little wind and sun burned.

There’s something so peaceful about using the same setup every day. I almost want to do something like this on a shorter basis – like, use the same soap for a whole week every week all year or whatever. It takes away the stress of “ugh, I want to use this but I’d rather use this but I haven’t used this one in forever and it needs to.” Instead it’s just – hey, here’s what we got this week. Simple.

First week of school done. It was a great week, but I’m exhausted. Super late night shave today, and I had to force myself to be present in the moment to make sure I got to appreciate it. I didn’t really like how autopilot yesterday’s shave was when the point of this is to enjoy the ritual. I think that little bit of purposeful focus really helped. Did a WTG everywhere, then a XTG on the face and ATG on the neck. This was by far my best shave, so far, with this set up. Not quite BBS (there’s an angle I’d need to hit on the ATG that I’m still afraid of with the Weck, especially while sleep deprived), but definitely up there with my normal Vector shaves. Looking forward to a good night’s sleep.

AA MIleage: 84 miles. Did a super slow, easy 6 miles today. Not enough energy to do something strenuous, but I like the thought of just getting myself to exercise anyways. Rest day tomorrow, then another long ride Sunday.
