Ok, so I had a good slurry shave today, and it was insanely quick: six and a half minutes for a two-pass open blade shave from picking up the soaked brush to spraying the frag, and I didn't not hurry.

I did some timing today. This is primarily to give u/sgrdddy some data about my lathering. Today's lathers were just like yesterday. Perfect (for me). Very rich, fragrant, wet, and slick. The blade felt light and feathery while cutting whiskers. Anyway, here's the timing along with some comments:

• Brush loading - 12 sec - damp brush, slightly splayed
• Preshave - 40 sec - protolather spread on face and worked into beard with lots of water to dilute it into a very slick emulsion
• First lather - 90 sec - paint lather, dip tips, splay brush and agitate to build volume. Add water and build in this manner until lather is full and fully hydrated
• First pass - 230 sec - 3:50
• Second lather - 85 sec - same method as first
• Second pass - 250 sec - 4:10

Total - 707 sec or 11:47

These timings represent a full-enjoyment shave for me. I'm not rushing. Just being mindful of the experience. The reason for not overloading the brush relates to wanting a full lather but not wanting to spend more time than needed to get one. Also, I want to limit the time I need to cleanup after shaving. With today's shave, like most of mine, there was no excess lather strewn about the sink or countertop. Cleanup is just rinse the soap, dry the razor, swipe the counter with a towel.

No need for a microscope photo today. Status quo on the edge.

Today's encounter with the #WAR took an unexpected turn. With the blade showing signs of wear after fifteen shaves, I attempted to breathe new life into it through careful stropping. I passed it along the back of my arm, performing around fifteen passes on each side, hoping to restore some of its former sharpness. But it seems even my efforts couldn't fully revive its edge.

As I embarked on the shave, I couldn't ignore the subtle changes. The blade, despite my attempts, still bore the marks of its battles. The tugs and pulls were more pronounced, and as a result, several nicks marred the landscape of my skin. It was a reminder that even our best intentions can't always prevent the signs of wear from taking their toll.

The shave itself was a mix of determination and a newfound sense of caution. The razor, my once-untamed ally, required a more delicate touch. The scent of the soap, that lingering aroma of #WAR, seemed to reflect the challenges I faced, a reminder that even in the midst of this struggle, there's a strange sense of camaraderie.

I can't help but recognize that this #WAR, this daily routine that once seemed so foreign, has become a part of me. Brush before shave 16

Wow, got busy goofing around after work and almost forgot to shave. Still not getting the angle just right. Tried even shallower on my second pass. That seemed to work ok on my left side, but not as well on the right. My neck was about the same as usual. Just doesn’t matter what angle I try. So starting to change my pattern a little. WTG on my neck is mostly from the centerline to the sides, but that doesn’t work well for me with a blade wider than a de. Trying to give it a bit of an angle sort of mostly xtg but leaning wtg. I’ll try that for both passes tomorrow. Now the big question, does belly stropping do anything? If so, how many strokes needed?

I do think I got the best lather this month. I loaded the brush pretty quick and painted the pasty soap on my face. Many splashes of water, and whoa! My brush had extra lather after the first pass. I didn’t need to try and load any extra tonight.

Waiting on my code for my LG prize now. I’ve decided to go for soaps I’ve wanted to try, but balked at the price before. For a deluded second thought about getting a straight, but if I’m going to splurge, I want more attractive scales than black plastic. I’ll stick to the Weck for now, and try to continue practicing after this month is over. Maybe try straight Saturdays or Sundays.
