    Dear u/PrideTwo

Today was much like the previous days, another encounter with the relentless #WAR. The razor, my steadfast companion in this daily skirmish, met my skin with its familiar touch. It's as if the blade knows me, understands the dance we perform each day. The scent of the soap, that pungent aroma of #WAR, has become a part of this routine, a strangely comforting presence.

The shave itself was uneventful, efficient, as if I've grown accustomed to the rhythm of this battle. The razor, despite the sharpness that once held an element of threat, now feels like an extension of myself. The soap, despite its overpowering scent, seems to lather with ease, as if it's cooperating with me, rather than against me.

In the midst of this repetition, I found myself reflecting on the thirteenth day, a day of adversity that I met with fierce resistance. But today, there was a subtle shift in my perspective, a hint of acceptance. It's as if I'm beginning to see the purpose in this struggle, to find a certain solace in the daily ritual.

As the fourteenth day draws to a close, I can't ignore the subtle signs of a growing connection, a strange sense of camaraderie with these tools and this battle. It's a bond that I can't quite put into words, a connection that's forming beneath the surface. Tomorrow, as I face the fifteenth day, I'll carry this newfound perspective with me, a mix of familiarity, acceptance, and a whisper of an unexpected bond with this #WAR. Onward, my journal, through the unfolding complexities of this journey.

Since I’m using the same set up every day, I’ve department from my Standard Shaving Operating Procedure (SSOP) and have just been leaving the software I’m using this month in the bathroom, rather than bringing everything back to my home office, where I keep most of my arsenal. Last night, my wife asked me, “Why have you only been using Sheep scented soap?” I tell her it’s unscented and she took a whiff and said, no it smells like sheep. The funk doesn’t lie.

Anyway, I tell her it’s for an unscented challenge where I use this all month. Her response: “Why? You have soaps that smell like cookies, like coffee, like our vacations, or flowers, or Christmas, or just smell really, really nice. Lather Games were last month. Why are you doing a challenge again??”

    And I didn’t have a great answer for her. #unscented #Monthofweckoning #RawHoggin

On a somewhat related note: There’s this weird green spot showing up at the bottom on my Stirling Soap. I'm befuddled. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before???

Kismet Blade - Losing My Edge
    #Monthofweckoning

Not much to say. I tried another slurry lather along with my normal 2-pass pattern, but no dawdling. 10 minutes from start to EdP. Very comfortable.

I added another microscope shot to the album. This shows that the edge is pretty much the same. I will say that it is getting more difficult by the day to get a good focus point near the apex. That generally happens when the edge is not uniform. I continue to think that I feel slightly less sharpness when shaving.

    Aug 14, 2023 - A Wecked Mammoth August

    • Prep: CeraVe - Hydrating Facial Cleanser

    • Brush: Summer Break Soaps Grant w/Maggard 26mm Boar

    • Razor: Weck Sextoblade

    • Blade: Kismet Hair Shaper

    • Lather: House of Mammoth - Dammusi

    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Sonder Balm

    • Fragrance: House of Mammoth - Sonder

Got up a little early this morning to try to push an ATG pass after my normal WTG/XTG. It went pretty well especially on my neck, chin a little worse but didn’t draw any blood on my chin. Did get under my nose because I slid the blade sideways like a dummy.

Forgot to weigh my tub this morning but will check back in tonight to see what this weeks usage looks like.

The Fourteenth Day Of Weckoning is upon us - It's Flipping Time

    • Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with a 26 mm unbleached Zenith boar knot at 56 mm loft
    • Razor: Weck Sextoblade Med Prep
    • Blade: Kismet Rostfrei, Polymer beschichtet (20)
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Oceana
    • Post Shave: Ralon – Original
    • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Island Man

I flipped the blade around today to get the presumably less used heel to take over as the new toe, and I felt 🥁🥁🥁🥁 no difference. These Kismet blades really hold up well. Wow.

I now have a daily shave inspector. Djunior has started the habit of examining my chin and then to djudge it in one of two categories: 1) "Bisschen katzt" (toddler German for "scratches a little") or 2) "Nein katzt" (toddler German for "does not scratch). It's a bit intimidating.

With all the progress I've made, I feel like today's progress is the most important. This was the first Weck shave that I would say was enjoyable. I've so far been so focused on not hurting myself, or frustrated on my inability to get a close shave that I was worried about it. Today I was just focused on the task at hand, and had a great shave.

    Here's to progress!

    Brush before shave 14

We took my daughter shopping for some shoes after I finished work today, so it was a fairly late shave tonight. We found a pair she liked at the Adidas outlet that were 50% off, so I’d say that was a success. While shopping, I popped into the fragrance outlet. I can’t recall what Polo Green smelled like. I haven’t had a bottle of it since the late 80s. So I spent a while giving a few a sniff. No testers of Creed were available, but they had a couple dupes to give it a sniff or two. The Aventus dupe smelled pretty good to me, but my wife didn’t like it. I did like Polo Blue and Armani Acqua di Gio. My wife liked Polo Green the best out of the sample sprays. Maybe some hints to my wife and daughter for birthday or Christmas.

Beginning to wonder if the blade will make it to 31. No nicks or weepers at least, but wasn’t the best feeling shave tonight on my cheeks. I still plan to tough it out, but I’d hoped I’d make it past 20 or more before I felt it was getting rougher. I spent a long time on lather for both passes. I don’t think the lather was on the dry side. I got it very slick feeling, and it had good residual slickness. I did try to get the blade at a more acute angle tonight. I’d estimate around 15 degrees for most of it. Surprisingly, though the cheeks didn’t go great, the neck went about the same, maybe a touch less feedback under the chin. I guess I’m just all over the place. This was my 16th straight shave ever. Probably never going to try the half de again, but might give the AC Kamisori Shavette another try after this month. Probably if I get some Feather or Kai guarded blades.

Only one weeper on the ATG today. It’s crazy how far 14 shaves gets your technique. Today felt like a normal ass DE shave even though I did a complicated WTG + combo X/ATG. Sonder took what would be an otherwise unremarkable shave and made me really reflect on the good parts of my day instead of the bad.

Today was open house night for parents to come meet teachers and hear about course policies and student expectations. What this really means is that I had to work from 7am to 8pm today. Ended up with a headache around 5pm that never really went away. Day was absolutely made when the parents of a kid I had last year (that I don’t have this year) came and found me to tell me all the good things their kid says about me. Great reminder about how good the good things about my job are even when it feels like the bad is taking over.

AA Mileage: 64 miles. No time to ride today. See above. Looking forward to tomorrow’s ride.

    August 14, 2023 – Decent Shave, actually.

    • Brush: Summer Break Soaps “Dundy” Maggard Boar 26mm
    • Razor: Marianna #310 Hair Shaper
    • Blade: Personna Hair Shaper (12)
    • Lather: House of Mammoth – Dammusi
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth – Dammusi

Was actually a decent shave tonight. With the grain is getting easier and easier. Aside from my silly heavy hand yesterday, my down scrape (cuz this blade is scrapey as heck) is pretty easy at this point. I’m also figuring out a light touch on my second hybrid pass and that’s helping quit a bit.

    Dundy++

    Dammusi ++

    Etc. etc.

    Have a good night, all.

    Days of disapproval: 2

Day 14 - Every single day I've shaved I'm wondering how in the world this blade is supposed to make it to the end of the month. It's still giving decent results, but the process of getting there is just absolutely horrible. 0/10 would never recommend these to anyone, ever.
