Day 6 of AA and #RawHoggin, seeing some nice splits appearing, even softer now. Seems to be generating and releasing a lot better but I think that's mainly me dialing in the water. Never taken me this long to sort it out before, probably too much of a rush in the morning to get out swimming, or rather being nagged by the little one. 

This shield razor is remarkably good considering it's price point being Ti, to be fair though I'm more looking forward to trying out the Atelier Vestige, I'm just hoping my turn on the passaround doesn't come around too quickly and I can finish off AA first.

Today's Shave/Brush Update: 16 min soak/15-count tub load/face lather/2 pass (WTGx2). Slick drippy lather again today. Now that my lather is well-hydrated, I am noticing that the brush is still a bit scritchy. Bristle hair splitting and knot blooming slowly continues. Minimal smell and no hair loss today. An easygoing SAS was the result.

Today’s Brush Pic Before Shave 6

My shave was earlier today, plus I trimmed my hair and goatee first. Today’s lather was the best yet this month. Lots more water today, and spent 2x as much time working on face lathering. I got the closest yet to my normal bowl lather. Once again, the face shave wasn’t bad, but I have a hard time getting my neck skin tight, so I feel a lot of tugging on the neck. No nicks again today, but lots of stinging on the neck from the splash.

As the battle continues in this #MonthOfWeckenoning, today commenced with a small victory in the form of removing three hairs from my trusted Omega Pro48 that were installed backward, rectifying the issue and ensuring optimal performance.

In the realm of the Razor and Blade, I achieved another blood-free shave with my Weck, signaling a successful execution of the shaving technique. Each day presents an opportunity to refine my skills, and I am relieved by the absence of any casualties today.

Regarding my loyal Omega Pro48 brush, I must reiterate its fantastic performance. The brush has been a reliable companion throughout this fierce battle, consistently delivering the lathering power I need for this challenging #WAR.

As the sixth day draws to a close, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and growing confidence in my abilities. Great success today! I managed to not only get an ATG pass on my cheeks but also on my chin! I swapped to a pinch grip after my first WTG pass and that let me really be able to feel in control with this razor! This is the first day I can say I got a good shave!

I forgot a before pic again. I don't know how, what with having more time and all on the weekends. The knot is feeling great so far. I can feel a couple hairs in about the center of the knot. By this point, I'm beginning to believe those ones are upside down.

Mrs. Pudding still strongly dislikes tabac. I am slowly becoming indifferent to it. It's starting to smell just like a typical soap.

The MMOC is still proving to be pretty friendly for right now. I'm not sure if it's just the blade condition, but I am getting more feedback on my neck than I am typically used to, and have experienced with a GEM, prior to this month.

August 6, 2023 – Sunday Shenanigans

There were no shenanigans around this shave, but, I needed a title. Overall a decent shave. Added another small cut on the right side of my chin, but otherwise just a few nicks here and there (got my nose for the first time) and it was a decent shave.

Dundy was great and I finally remembered to take a picture before I dunked it and it’s beautifully fluffy already. If you don’t have a Maggard boar you should fix that. And you should love it fairly high. It’s excellent.

The Marianna continues to be the cruel devil that she’s always been, but, I’m slowly learning how to finesse her. u/Zimora has assured me that one can get a closer shave with a straight and/or weck than one can with a DE and I’m starting to believe it. I’m nowhere near that level of proficiency but I can see how eventually you’d get there. And, if it really is true that a good straight razor is more forgiving and easier to get a good shave with than a hair shaper then maybe I’ll dabble in that world. But – only one. Just one straight. I cannot get more than one. And a strop, of course. But, that’s it. One. Maybe.

Dammusi is becoming wonderfully familiar. I think it’s going to be a really good year round scent. Fun fact: the island of Pantelleria has never (at least since 1971 when recordings started) experienced a temperature at or below freezing but the scent it inspired from Ben certainly will be tested out in the frigid Wisconsin winter in a few months (gasp).

Day 6 - I was honestly not looking forward to the shave this evening because it's just been a long day and I wasn't really feeling it. /u/putneycj tagged me in a post earlier about the potential of open blade closeness and I decided I was going to motivate myself tonight to chase that BBS finish with an ATG pass. Didn't quite get there on my neck because I've got some spots causing me issues that aren't shaving related, but everything else is absolutely spot on. Definitely the best shave I've had this week. Didn't hate the Personna as much as I have been, but perhaps that's just the nature of the blade sort of breaking in and losing that keen edge. Great shave overall!

Only one hair shed from my brush today. Firefighter still going strong. This tub will definitely not last the month, but I have a backup on the way to make sure I can finish AA. My fear with Austere August is that I'm going to burn out and end up hating one of my favorite scented shave products. Fortunately I don't think there's any risk of that happening here. In fact I think I might really enjoy a Firefighter bath soap or EdP in the future. #RawHoggin
