    • Brush: Declaration Grooming - Cerberus Fougere B15
    • Razor: Henkels - Friodur 72-V
    • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Cerberus Fougere
    • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Cerberus Fougere AS
    • Fragrance: House of Mammoth - Cerberus Fougere - EDP

I almost didn’t pick up this cerberus offering, I liked the previous one but it was certainly divisive.  If I hadn’t though I would have regretted it, it smells really fresh and the edp hangs around nicely.  This one isn’t as in your face as much as the other, and most people that have have caught a whiff have always had positive comments   Though it is hard to separate my 2 favourites, the other being Fougere Nemeta, my Mrs actually prefers that one and she’s commented on it on more than one occasion.

The friodur is a cracking razor, I’ve found I prefer hollows but this wedge/near wedge is excellent in the smaller size.  Doesn’t have the flexibility but the manoeuvrability is spot on.  I’ve got this, the 17 and 472, I am determined at some point to get a 14 but we’ll see how that plays out.

I’m sorry for inflicting that on you guys (almost as sorry as I was for the hair in the sink), my alternate final line was 'This Haiku is Shit', a poet I am not.

Hope everyone has a grand day.

After listening to the podcast, I learned that judges prefer more unique selections rather than the basic ones for the theme, I'll try to nail that for next year, but already made my acquisitions for this year. MDC Fougere, a wonderful and pricy scent, complemented with Myrsol C. My first shave ever with a DG brush and a Personna blade, and let me say they live up to the hype!

Today's Theme: Fougeres - it's all in the names baybeeee

Today's Challenge: I have 2 haikus for you today

    Fougere Haiku:

    From the forest floor,

    Bounty of earthen delights,

    Apes together strong

    Bonus Haiku:

    Home of nourishment.

Is it running? Go catch it!

    Refrigerator.

My theme for today's shave: Fougeres and Ferns

I'll get the writeup up in a bit, kind of a busy morning today. #photocontest #FOF #ROTY

Edit: OK writeup time. The fougeres in today's shave were all fairly bright smells with significant citrus notes, very different from something like a Fougere Gothique. Seems like everyone likes to use the "if god gave ferns a scent it would smell like Fougere Royale" quote when doing their fougere scent descriptions, but frankly ferns do have a scent and it's not citrus-based.

I did really enjoy today's shave though, the LASSCO base isn't exactly the same as the CF base as far as I can tell, but it whips up a good lather very easily. The soap's consistency was a lot softer than I expected, almost as soft as milksteak but I don't know if that's because I have it in the sample container or what.

Ferns remind me of a hike I did with my mom in the seattle area when she came to visit me there a few years ago. Beautiful thick forest and the trail was littered with ferns on either side. Our trailhead started on the side of the road and we did a couple miles down to a quite rocky beach that had a great view of Mount Olympus (not the greek one). It's a special memory for me because those kinds of days where you're far enough away from cell service and the rest of the world that you can just enjoy spending time with a loved one.

For music today I picked Elements, Pt. 1 by Stratovarius because it's an album that's near and dear to my heart as it helped me through some of my younger years. Fast music with a positive message with tracks like Eagleheart, Find Your Own Voice, and Learning to Fly. Definitely recommend this album to anyone interested in power metal.

    Lather games 2023 Day 21

    • Prep: Warm water
    • Brush: Mühle - Rytmo
    • Razor: Mühle - Rytmo R41
    • Blade:
    • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Fougère Mania
    • Post Shave: Wholly Kaw - Fougère Mania
    • Post Shave: Mühle - alum block

Like every new guy I wanted to have soap from all famous artisans. I buy this set from member in my shaving club. I like very much the scent but it is a little but shy in Lather. Very good density foam and very good slickness. Today is more lyrically poetic day and I use it for revelations how I dive in classical shaving. This Rytmo set was the reason to start wet shaving ( in fact was with R89 head after that I discovered my love to more aggressive and change with R41 head ). I heated shaving. I grooming my beard. I don't know and how Instagram's AI decided to show me commercial of this set. But I was fascinated! In my mind this method of shaving was ended with our grandfathers. Combination of chrome and wood give me this feeling for old luxury item. My finger was on "buy it now" button and almost push it. All weekend my mind thinking to buy this set! But why? I don't shave! I hate shaving! Why I want to buy it? I try to find all stupid excuses to buy it even to give it to my grandchildren! I even don't have a kids!!!!! To be accessory in my bathroom? Never mind I'll waiting to Monday to visit the shop just to see it. I was pretty sure if I see it will buy it but one part of my mind says maybe when you see it I'll dissuade and stop thinking about this useless thing. And of course when they opened the brand new shiny set I give up. I buy also soap Mühle Aloe vera in wooden cup just because matching the set and TOBS Lime zest and Mühle alum block ( on picture). After that me seating in my car I was thinking "What the fuck I am doing?!? What i supposes to do whit this things??? I have no idea!?!" I start driving .....And then..... solution come!!! "But hey after all i shave my torso and my bolls so now I'll do it with style!!! " Now smooth transition from my balls to haiku:

Razor's gentle glide, Lather embraces skin with care, Smoothness blooms anew.

P.S. this 3 rows busted my ass all night and all day!!! Me and poetry what a joke!!!

July 21, 2023 – How do you even Pronounce Fourgere?

    • Brush: Maggard Synthetic
    • Razor: Gillette Tech
    • Blade: Parker (5)
    • Lather: Catie’s Bubbles – Blugère
    • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. – Varen
    • Fragrance: Maher Olfactive – Orris Forest

The shave was ok. My smush (~~I think from u/j33pguy13? Looks like hand writing.~~ Edited: it was u/putneycj. ) was stuck to the wax paper from disuse and traveling no doubt. The database says this is a cream, it was not by the time I opened it. I managed to get the smush into a bowl, and kinda ad hoc GUTL may way to a good lather. I tried to save what was left, but will see how it travels home. This has been a rough travel week shave wise. Got a massive cut on the mole on my cheek which opened up again while we were walking. Glad to be heading home, even if vacation was fun.

Today is another of those classic wetshaving fragrance category days. I’ll be honest, a lot of these categories just confuse me. I can grok “Gourmand” as it just smells like food. And “barbershop” is more an synthetic category (or meta category.) So it’s also something I can manage. Chypre? Still no effing clue. Amber? That’s a color right? Green? Also a color.

Fourgere is somewhat in the middle. I understand it’s supposed to smell like ferns. My mind processes that as “outdoors in the woods.” Which works, because my experience is the woods of the Ozarks which are loaded with ferns. So I can sorta handle the idea. Which transitions to #fof, not sure I could identity blugrere as a fourgere just based on sent notes, but it’s marketed as one. Varen is a bit easier as it smells as expected l. What tells me I’m getting better is that when I went through my discovery sets I saw Orris forest, looked at the notes and said “that matches great!” I then read the description where Shawn calls it “a nouveau fougère of sorts.” I’m getting better at this.

My #photocontest entry is sports. The vacation is over and it ended with a cards cubs game at historic Wrigley Field. My wife and kids first time there and my first in over 2 decades. It was an experience. And we won, which is surprising this season. And my entry into #ROTY remains unscathed. I honestly figured I’d forget at least one post this week. So I’ll close with the challenge:

    Four vacation shaves

All on theme for the lather games

    Time to head back home

Not fully familiar with the fougere category of scents, but off the top of my head its a toss up between Cerberus Fougere or Fougere Nemeta as to which my favorite is. Fougere Nemeta has a sharper, biting quality to it when first lathered/applied, but an extremely enjoyable scent!

I fuggin' love fougeres! Especially the ones I used today. Just one pass on this shave. Brad absolutely killed it on the hone job on this Dubl Duck razor. If you ever need honing I highly suggest Maggards. It gives an amazing feeling shave. I had to get used to the square point because it's so pristine. It's really perfectly square and sharp. It's awesome for precision work around the sideburns and mustache but I made some marks on my strop from moving too fast and letting the tip drag a bit I think. During the first shave I actually cut my self with the tip from being haphazard with my angles. Today I was more careful so the shave and stropping went much better. On my Friedrich Herder Abraham Sohn 49 the tip is rounded off and you can get away with alot more with out any damage. The Dubl Duck kinda feels like a race car in comparison. The blades handle really differently and it makes me want to try more.

    Challenge:

    Brush, bowl. Razor time.

    Lathering up. Smelling fine.

I don't have any Fougéres in my den, but thankfully I had a smush I'd gotten some time ago from u/EldromR. I don't dislike them, they just don't wow me or anything. All to Mrs. Puddings disappointment, as she does really likes them. I did enjoy Fougére Nemata, though. It has that very familiar Fougére smell to it, but with that little extra something in the back, unique to SW.

The Shave: What a glorious shave. The CB Luxury Cream Soap base is awesome. I forgot how well it performs and loaded too much. Luckily lather-building with this base is super easy and in short order I had about six passes worth of wonderfully smelling slick, wet lather. An effortless BBS was the result.
