Straight shave number eight. Progress on my chin today. A couple of weepers to show for it, but I got it the smoothest I’ve been able to get it yet.

Brush was less pokey today compared to yesterday’s weirdness. I’m still needed to reload a touch for the second pass.

Today is my Friday. Tomorrow we are heading up to Louisville to meet up with my best friend and his wife. It’s his birthday and we are going to visit some distilleries and tasting bourbon.

I am more than pleased with my selections this year for AA. The razor is really straight forward, a synthetic brush to lather quickly before and dry quickly after the shave, and the Tusk base is really easy to load.

2 passes. All good. No alum excessive feedback.

Knot splooged again today, despite repeating the same process from yesterday. I feel like my growing resentment might actually prevent me from getting burned out on my software. Lol.

Still a fine shave, and I love this handle. I continue to tell myself that it will get a better knot after a brief passaround in September. That is unless the clouds part and the water retention is suddenly a non-issue one day... I feel like it's probably as loose as it's going to get now, so I'm struggling to keep huffing that copium. YMMV. MOIMO. Not an influencer. Buy/use what you want/like.

8 Days in and I'm feeling good. Small nick today but otherwise really a good shave. There's a spot on my chin that I'd like to heal up and may need to shave around for a couple days so I stop scraping it back open, but, I usually just forget it's there until it starts bleeding again, like I did this morning. This thing far outperforms the Weck from last year and I'm really glad I didn't let that monstrosity scare me off of straights altogether. I'm contemplating picking up a Carbon Steel straight at some point since all y'all seem to say they're even "softer" than stainless.

Brush Pics in Album is performing well.

Everett is going to have absolutely no problem going the whole month with this smaller brush. The last couple tubs I used for AA I could see the bottom via the ring of death by the end, I don't think we're going to get anywhere close to that this month.

My goal when loading my brush is to have enough soap to build 4 passes worth of lather. For the first few days of AA I needed to load 2.1g of soap to have 4 passes of lather. Today I loaded 1.7g and had at least 5 passes of lather. Today's lather quantity is a good sign that the bristle break-in is progressing nicely, but as a precaution I'll continue to load on the heavy side until the unbleached boar is completely broken in.

Another great shave today. No complaints. The Dubl Duck is still shaving wonderfully. I think I'm finally getting closer to grabbing the correct amount of soap for a single pass. I'm usually making lather for a bakers dozen worth of shaves at a time for some reason. How will I ever get through all this soap now?

I loaded for ~40 seconds today. I'm working on speeding up my lathering buy incorporating water quicker. I wet the brush tips after every 10 count while loading. I wet them again before I starting lathering each side of my face. I worked that in. Then, I dipped the brush and painted water onto my face twice on each side. And repeated that a couple of times. I'm usually not able to dial in the process this much when I change up brushes and soaps.

It was a very nice shave today. Everything was just dialed in so well. From lather to technique. BBS easy today, and no feedback from the splash.

Brush is lathering nicely. Weighed the tub today using about 2.5 grams per shave I’m hoping for that to lessen as the month goes on. I’m sure I am overloading but im enjoying the lather I am getting. Tomorrow I will weigh again before the shave and start timing how long I load.

I am becoming more and more comfortable with using my left hand. Cheek and neck WTG is going nicely. All in all was a great shave.

Ugh. Work sucked again today. Hopefully get out early tomorrow.

Brush is making steady progress. I still don’t face lather as well as bowl lathering, but still it was decent. Shave went well. No stinging from the splash. Enjoying my month of pondering Sonder. I normally really notice the lemon, but trying to get my nose to pick up the sandalwood sooner. Such a great subtle scent. I usually describe it as a lemon cream sandwich cookie, but after it fades, it leaves a woody base. This is definitely a great scent to spend a month getting to know better.

Added a picture of the tub to show the level of soap left. Starting to think it might have a shot at making it to the end of the month.

08-08 - Respect

Another damn serviceable shave from the $headless and $MammothMafia24 setup. If I can get the neck area sorted out, I could easily see myself using something like this as a one-pass option any day of the week to spice things up. This challenge, however, requires two passes, and while an ATG pass leaves my cheeks smooth as butter, it's a bit too much hassle to keep switching up my grip while also stretching the skin taut, and the possibility of ending up like the (Heath Ledger) Joker should I slip up is enough to keep me second-guessing my every move.

I'll be honest, there was a tiny spot of blood on my neck today, right near the Adam's apple. I didn't even notice it at first until I touched it; it was so little blood it hardly warrants including, but the counter is there for a reason. Goes to show the neck is still a dicey area for me. Alum told me as much today, too.
