Today is the first time I’ve used a blade 7 times. Honestly, I’m surprised that I haven’t noticed any real change in performance. But there is a looooooong way to go yet.

I have several “camera on” conference calls today, and felt like being a little more polished than usual. So I did a XTG pass on my neck. While it wasn’t a problem today, I don’t think I’d do that the further into the month we get.

Straight shave number seven. I’d say chin WTG now doesn’t feel uncomfortable. Not quite ready to say comfortable yet, but no longer totally awkward. I still haven’t found anything approaching comfortable for going XTG or ATG on my chin though so I’m struggling to get it as smooth as I’d prefer (I’m not looking for BBS, but ideally better than I’m getting it right now.)

I’m still having to reload for the second pass, and the brush paradoxically felt pokier today than it has since the first day. Not really sure I could say why… There is also some green oxidation starting to be visible on the copper on the inside top ring of the brush which I’m a little worried is going to start to stain the bristles. Not sure what to do about that…

Great shave. Got the knot to dump the excess water in the tub while loading instead of on my face while splayed. Much more consistent lather across the passes, but the 2nd and 3rd passes are still notably better. I can't help but wonder if this knot wouldn't better suit those who bowl lather. The bulb shape leans that way anyway, but I've still got another 24 shaves to change my opinion.

I have been using the “repeat” function on this App since that’s what I’m doing everyday. Apparently it drops items if you fat finger them.

Two passes. Great shave. Since we are shaving every day, the blade is holding up pretty well.

We are having dinner with a couple of friends tonight to celebrate his birthday. He used to be the voice of Nashville Public Radio, he retired a year ago. Love him and hate him since he was an only child of boomers was able to retire early.

Overall a really good shave. Learning to control the blade from heel to toe is a critical piece, as is paying attention to pressure. The beautiful thing about this month is getting to learn those lessons on the daily; one tiny step forward each day results in big improvments over time. A couple weepers, and one stupid little slice, but aside from that it was really good. Conerning spots seem to be healing well and not looking like they will scar, but there is one other spot on my chin that has me nervous. Trying to lotion my face a bit more to keep the skin more moist to let it heal, but who knows. September will tell.

Brush continues to break in nicely and I smell great again!

Last morning in Memphis so I had to get in another shave with the ducks! Was a quick trip but really enjoyed it! Stumbled upon a minor league baseball game literally across the street from the hotel with my favorite MLB teams AAA team playing! Got front row seats for $25 so took advantage of that!

In the spirit of AA, I am learning that I don’t need to use as much pressure as I have been. Less pressure with this soap and razor makes it feel like it’s skating on ice. I’m also starting to notice the amber and dried fruit more and less of the wood and tobacco of this soap. I really like it, even for August.

Today is sadly my last day working at Chick Fil A, at least until after marching band season. Today's shave was alright but I accidentally did my neck against the grain on the first pass so that kind of burned. I think I might start a new Fallout 4 playthrough. In marching band the saxophone section has started to sing christmas carols to forget about the heat.

Tropical storm Debby has arrived. It’s pouring rain and lots of lightning right now.

Shave went well until I tried to shorten my sideburns. Still more bloodless than bloodier, but now score is 4-3. Lather was better, but brush not splaying yet.

Today, everything clicked. I know that sounds unbelievable after those first few shaves I documented even just earlier this week, but it's true. I thought to try a different way to grip the Weck today (think a 'reverse grip' with the tip of the blade pointing outwards, toward my ear) and it allowed me to see clearly, get the blade really close to the skin, and keep it there without chattering or skipping. Starting on the right side of my face, using that grip I was able to remove most of my stubble in just two or three strokes. It was like the scales fell from my eyes (hah, razor pun). Is this why people swear by straight razors? I wondered. It certainly felt like one of the reasons. Anyway, I absolutely blazed through my cheek and jaw area like this. Soon it came time for the neck again, which has been a consistent problem area for me, being a flabby sack of shit and all. I'd be lying if I said it went completely without issue, but it sure was a hell of a lot less problematic than it has been for the past few shaves before this one. My second pass also went well, and my cheeks feel smooth like glass. The alum definitely gave me some feedback on the neck again so I'll have to keep workshopping that area. However, there's little to no lingering irritation after the balm has seeped in and done its thing, so I'm definitely feeling better today than after my first few shaves during AA (after which my neck looked like a turkey's wattle). No blood either, which is a great win. Looking to keep the counter in the single digits this month; with any luck I'll get there.

u/merikus and u/Zimora, I tried the vinegar/dish soap wash on my brush and am happy to report it definitely did something. The tips feel a bit less rigid now and some of the funk is for sure gone, so that's great. Remains to be seen if it lathers any better now, but even if the difference isn't that noticeable I'm still happy I got to give it a good clean.
