    • Brush: Stirling - Synthetic 2 band.
    • Razor: Gillette - Black handle Super Speed
    • Blade: Treet - Carbon steel(2).
    • Lather: Maggard Razors - Orange Menthol.

This soap is great, this company is great- what’s not to love? I love Maggards so much- they have the fastest delivery that I’ve experienced and are very prompt with any questions I’ve had. Is there a way to make a wishlist on the site? I tend to add items to my cart, though if things are limited and the item is purchased by another customer it disappears from my cart & of course I can’t remember what is missing. There’s always something I want, sadly for my wallet. Although I haven’t had any mega purchases, I feel like I am a frequent buyer so if there is a loyalty program, let me know. Love supporting these guys and eventually will try to visit in person!

    June 8, 2024 – 2024.06.08: Lather Games Day 8 – Small Business Saturday… But in June

    • Brush: Maggard Razors - 22mm Black & White Synthetic
    • Razor: Maggard Razors - V3 #ZAMAC
    • Blade: Bic Chrome (1)
    • Lather: Maggard Razors – London Barbershop
    • Post Shave: House of Mammoth – Everett
    • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann – Eclipse

Daily Theme: Small Business Saturday… but in June

Theme justification: Maggard Razors London Barbershop is under the “Maggard Razors” label.

Relevant Post Shave & Frag: All the brands from today’s shave (including the brush, razor, & blade) can be found out the wetshaving hobby’s premier retailer – Maggard Razors. I also picked up the frag and AS from the Maggard Meetup.

    Scavenger Hunt Justification:

Razor facts: The [Maggard Razors V3] head is listed as being made out of “Plated Zinc Alloy.” In other words, Zamac

    Brush facts: N/A

    Daily/Special Challenge: Mad Braggard Day

I actually haven’t spent too much online at Maggard. See here. Those top two charges are for the Meetup ($35 for the ticket, $75 for products and shipping while there). The $63 has a Henson+++, and the one below that has a Henson+ which account for most of the order. The first order was the very first wetshaving order I ever placed. It was my introduction into this hobby. It looks larger than it really is due to the blade sampler. As /u/tsrblke described it, I tend to snack instead of gorge when it comes to orders (at least from Maggard).

My largest order (quantity wise), actually came from Stirling. 21 items, including 14 sample pucks. I don’t think I’ve finished a single one of these pucks, but it has helped me figure out what I like and what I don’t. I say money well spent. Plus, they’re great for travel, especially in those tins from Dollar Tree.

Honestly, the largest expense I’ve had due to this hobby is one I’d do again in a heartbeat: The Maggard Meetup.

    Item Cost
    Hotel $138
    Flight $193
    Spending $217
    Total $548

I also gave /u/OnionMiasma some money for driving/gas. Those totals don’t include my pickup orders of Everett or my AKA Stanley Cup Handle that I would’ve been buying regardless.

Absolutely worth it. If you have the opportunity to go in the future, please do. It’s a great time.

(side note: seems like the retailer I’ve spent the most money with is House of Mammoth)

    Fragrance description

I'm trying something different today. My mother was with me this morning, so I picked her brain on the fragrances. Her responses will be in markdown quote blocks below. Spoiler alert: >!I know where my sus nose comes from!<

    Barrister and Mann Eclipse

What do you think of this?

    I don't know

Come on. I have internet friends to impress.

What is that one scent? That mild musk scent? It also has some sort of woodsy citrus. Patches? Patchi? ...

    Patchouli?

    Yeah, that one.

Does it evoke/make you think of anything?

    nods head no

House of Mammoth Everett (I used the splash, but had her smell the EdP)

    What about this one?

I smell spice. Don't ask my which one, because that's what I'm smelling.

Give it a spray, see if it opens up for you

    Eeck!

(Editor's note: I'm not entirely sure how to spell the sound that came out of her mouth. The "c" was a lot more gutteral than you'd expect)

    some vinilla, maybe?

I read off scent the scent notes

I don't get any of that! I can't smell the citrus at all.

Thank you very much, Mom. I appreciate your help. Love you.

Side note: When was the last time you told your Mother you loved her? As long as you do feel that way, you should give her a call and let her know. It'll make her happy. :)

    Now onto the shave!

Through the Fire Fine Crafts makes Maggard Razors’ house brand soaps. They do a fine job. The soap is serviceable, and I honestly have no complaints. It’s not my favorite scent nor my favorite base, but if I had to use it for the rest of my life it would work. On the scent front, I’d probably call this my least favorite that I have in my collection. I’m not a barbershop fan at all. My dad used get his haircuts at a salon (I know it’s not a barbershop), but I had to wait in the car due to the smell being so overpowering. That is all the scent reminds me of, and I do not like it.

The V3 razor is also fine. Nothing special, but not bad. Produced a decent shave.

    Sponsor Spotlight

Maggard Razors is an amazing store. The community is very lucky to have such fantastic retailer, with owners who truly care about their business and customers. They’re always happy to answer random questions, they have some of the quickest shipping I’ve ever seen (meaning from ordered to OTD), and they’re just extreme nice people.

If you ever get the chance to go to one of the meetups and Brad &/or Casie, I encourage you to do so.

June 8, 2024 - Small Business Saturday... but in June

    • Brush: Rubberset 400 w/ Maggard Synthetic
    • Razor: Yates Precision Manufacturing - 921-H
    • Blade: Gillette - Silver Blue
    • Lather: Maggard Razors - Barbershop
    • Post Shave: Old Spice - Indian

This barbershop scent by Maggard has a very nice and clean smell, and I was very surprised by how good the lather was. As a college student, I don't have much money to make huge purchases, but it has probably been Yates Precision because I've bough two razors from them in the last 7 months. However, the knot, soap, and splash I used today was all from Maggards!

ETA: Was in a rush today to get this post done, but have to give thanks to u/Eructate for the smush!

    • Prep: Hot shower
    • Brush: Badger brush I've had forever with the maker's mark rubbed off
    • Razor: Muhle Companion
    • Blade: Astra Green (Indian)
    • Lather: Maggards - London Barbershop

Mad braggard day challenge: I haven't really been too financially irresponsible with my shaving purchases (yet), out of a healthy fear of my wife terminating my hobby. But the silliest Maggards purchase would probably be wet shaving kit for my 13 year old nephew.

    Brush: Chisel & Hound Quartermoon
    Razor: Maggard V3M/MR5
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue * Lather: Maggard Razors - Mango Sage Tea
Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Almond Leather * Post Shave: Osma - Alum
Post Shave:* Jack Black - Double-Duty Face Moisturizer

Mango Sage Tea was very nice followed with the HoM Almond Leather splash, which is my only in-person Maggard Razors purchase. I’ve never gotten too crazy with orders, especially since most of them were back in the Edge shipping days, IYKYN. From memory I’d have to say the ATT Calypso R1 was the larger order at ~$100 Maggard Razors.

    • Razor: u/EldrormR Industries MM24 2 Tone #Fliptop

    • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE [18]

    • Lather: Maggard Razors - Limes & Bergamot

    • Post Shave: Southern Witchcrafts - Boonana

    • Fragrance: Montblanc - Legend Spirit

    Small business Saturday.

For today’s shave I used Maggard Razors Limes & Bergamot, I grabbed a sample of it right before the games started. Now I’m not sure if it’s the soap or my Maggard Razors brush look at it in its magnificent glory but I used less than an almond sized scoop and I had lather for days. I have u/infernalinternal to thank for steering me to that knot. I have a Dogwoods handle without a knot and I might just grab another one of the SHD’s and pop it in there.

For the daily challenge I went and looked to see what my biggest Maggard order was. I pretty much knew what it was, but what I did not realize is that I have placed 7 orders in the last 2 months. I’ve bought a few samples and a lot of full tubs and splashes. The biggest order price wise was my last one. A Trifecta of DG Contemplation, tub and splash of DG Yuzu Rose Patchouli and HOM Tobacconist splash. The most items in one order is 8 and the smallest was 1. I also have 6 items in my cart right now. Tomorrow is my bday and told my wife I wanted a Maggard gift card. Hope she listened but if not Ima buy it anyway

Todays shave is also a Fruit salad YUMMY YUMMY

Splash, SW Boonana now a banana does not go into a traditional fruit salad, but I’m comparing a shave to one so there’s that.

Frag choice today was an easy one. I’ve had this sample of Legend Spirit for a few weeks now and never wore it. But when I was filling in my calendar for today, I remembered this has top notes of Grapefruit and Bergamot so today was the perfect to use it.

    Photo contest theme Baseball

Growing up in Jersey City you had 2 choices for baseball and 2 for football. Mets or Yankees, Jets or Giants. I went Mets & Giants because almost everyone around me were Jets and Yankee fans. 1986 was a glorious year to be a fan of both. The Mets went 108/54 and finished the season 21 1/2 games in the lead. Went on the beat the Astros and then the Red Sox for the World Series. I will always remember where I was for games 6 and 7. Game 6 I was at my father’s house, I fell asleep on the couch but woke up when my father started yelling about the wild pitch that tied the game. Game 7 I was home at my mom’s house, were flipping back and forth between game 7 and the Giants vs. Washington and both outcomes were wins. Mets win the Series and a few months later Yeah Baby!. It was a great time to be New York sports fan. So today’s picture is some of my favorite 86 Mets autographs.

    • Post Shave: Macduffs Soap Company - Royal Earl Grey
    • Post Shave: Omega - Alum Stick
    • Post Shave: Bart's Balm - Ben Vorlich

My face in recovery mode from the GeoFatboy challenge yesterday. I woke up with irritation, so I put on some Bundubeard "My Bilksem" Beach Bum Aftershave Balm. It is a very greasy balm, but works wonders on irritated skin. I normally would have skipped shaving to let my face recover, but the games must go. I decided to use very mild razor if Feather ASD2. With the slickness of the Maggards Mango Sage Tea soap and a nice Astra SP Green, I had a pleasant shave. I used Macduffs Royal Earl Grey aftershave to keep in the tea state of mind. TO help heal my face faster, I also used Bart's Balm -Ben Vorlich. It smelled nice and was soothing.

    Today's Challenge Mad Braggard Day:

Lucky for me I have placed two recent big orders from Maggards in the last 3 months . I have focused mostly on aftershave and samples. I love the variety Maggards has, and I appreciate the amount of different shave soap samples they offer. I have bought too many! It is getting more difficult to hide these purchases! I also have a Maggards SHD knot in my Wolf Whisker's Brush and a have a 26mm knot I used today in my Timeless adjustable brush handle. It is my favorite badger knot!

My Personal Challenge Different Blade, Razor, Brush and Soap Brand Everyday: Still going strong, no repeats so far.

    Daily Gratitude
Thanks to OnionMiasma for the soap smoosh. Thanks to ShavinginCT for the fragrance sample. Thanks to EldrormR for including some free blades with my MM24. Thanks to Chris in my local keyboard meetup for letting me take a picture of my shave stuff in front of his prius. Thanks to our wonderful judges and other people for putting this whole thing together.

    Daily Mistakes
none? I am perfect? yes, probably.

    Daily Writeup
This morning I woke up but I didn't shave because I had to wait until later to take a picture with the Prius so I didn't want to use up my smoosh before the picture. Then the keyboard meet was longer than expected and my dad was late to pick me up so I didn't have time to shave before work, then after work ended at 9:30 my dad and I went to the store to go grocery shopping, so I just shaved at 10:30 and I'm not sure if this closes at 11mst or 12mst so I am rushing to pump this out before 11.

    Daily Theme Points
    Maggard's soap lathered super great!

Daily Relevant Post Shave & Fragrance Points
Today I used the cologne russe aftershave because it is a darker scent much like moss. The fragrance is in the same boat because according to google Chypre scents are also darker, and the smells actually match super nicely today!

    Daily Challenge
I need to buy more stuff from Maggards but I am a poor 15 year old that spends too much on keyboards. My biggest order was actually when I just started going deep into the hobby back in February, it was actually a birthday present from my mom that I picked out. The order was Black Watch, Orbit, and Pinaud Clubman. Pretty simple but man those are some of my favorite items my mom loved the scents so much that I actually gave her the Orbit to get her into wetshaving and she almost bought the Black Watch EDP for my grandpa lol!

    Hardware Scavenger Hunt
No new hashtags so if you want to know about these ones you can see my previous posts.

    Photo Contest
One of my buddies from the local keyboard group was nice enough to let me take a picture with his Prius to honor our fabulous Priusaurus.

    TL;DR
Late shave. I win rookie of the year thank you very much give me my prize.

    • Comments: Maggards Day!! Not enough orders to have any crazy stories, I’ve only ordered from them twice but it’s been a great experience. My first order I ended up returning almost all of the things I got. This was before I had better sense to just order samples, but they were great and gave me back store credit! Good customer service for sure. They also found me an empty tub of an unobtaium soap. Other than that I had a crazy experience with another online seller from whom I ordered some expensive Ti razors and they forgot to fulfill my order, till I reached out lol

Anyways used the London Barbershop sample from my stash, great smell, maybe the latter was a little lacking but maybe it’s operator error. Will give it another go once the games are over.

    • Brush: Zenith Boar 24 x 48 mm #SMOLL #OLDWORLD
    • Razor: Fatip Piccolo Slant Closed Comb
    • Blade: Schick Stainless
    • Lather: Maggard Razors – Tobacco & Leather
    • Post Shave: Spearhead - Black Watch (splash)
    • Fragrance: Chris Rusak – Beast Mode EdT

None of my individual Maggard orders have been exorbitant, but they definitely add up. The most recent order was mostly samples, both soaps and aftershaves, to try and fill out my LG 2024 schedule.

In addition to using a Maggard soap, the aftershave and fragrance both represent small businesses. Spearhead is well-known to r/Wetshaving—frequent mentions of the Seaforth! line on this sub led me to try both Sea Spice Lime and Black Watch. Black Watch also has leather as one of its notes, so I thought it would pair with the Maggard Tobacco & Leather—and I was right!

Chris Rusak is an independent perfumer based (I believe) in LA. He’s produced some unusual, challenging scents, one of which is called After Every Ounce of Joy Leaves My Body. It smells like pine and gasoline. Today I went with a different fragrance called Beast Mode, which has some unusual “gourmand” qualities (such as licorice) which I think mesh well with the notes in Black Watch.

Today’s edition of Brush Strokes features a woodblock-printed image by Katsushika Hokusai, from his series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji (which also includes the famous Great Wave off Kanagawa ). This print frames Mt. Fuji in the far distance, while in the foreground highlighting a craftsman at his work.
